    Chapter 27

Things have been too calm for too long. I suspect that will end soon enough. ;-)

    Chapter 27

I don't think it was easy for Will to leave Kai behind, but I think he's learned how these things worked. It's not so much that it's not painful, it's that he's a realist.

    Chapter 27

Perceptive thoughts. I think that Will is more than willing to be generous to his father, but I don't think it's unreasonable for him to expect Brad to apologize.

    Chapter 27

"She'll learn." Marie is young too, and probably all excited about all this scheming and bullshit, but as you noted, she'll ultimately learn it's just not worth it.

    Chapter 27

A very apt review, and no, Will can't just go to Maui. :-)

    Chapter 27

Like I wrote in the heading, it was a chapter of goodbyes and healing. I hate goodbyes, and I could easily visualize Will struggling with this one. And he really did need to bring things full circle with Erik.
  7. That's a really interesting point; I'm glad you made it (again). Marie has to be really pissed at seeing Will earn his own freedom, while she is in her own version of jail.

LOL. Ante? Are we playing strip poker?

    Chapter 27

August 18, 2001 I’d been agonizing over this for over two weeks now, avoiding the inevitable, that time when I’d have to go back home and leave Kai. I’d put it out of my mind last night, when we’d all gone to Kai’s house for dinner. Kai had been nervous, wondering how Stef and Grand would deal with his parents, but they were terrific, and we’d ended up having a great time. Then we’d come back to the guest house, gotten Stef and Grand set up in the other bedroom, and escaped back t

    Chapter 58

I think Granger is more than capable of handling Berry and/or the French! LOL. Thanks for the review!
  11. And just where the hell have you been?

    Chapter 58

Nelson was known for his charm and charisma, and also for his flaws. He could be a petty person, and was very vain and conscious of any slight (perceived or real). It makes sense that someone like Granger, who is unassuming, would connect well with Nelson. In some ways, Granger is probably much as Nelson would like to be (secure enough not to be bitchy), while the opposite is true, with Granger admiring Nelson's brilliant strategic mind and tenacity.

Well, you just never know. ;-)

    Chapter 58

Thank you! I thought it was a good way to bring in the results of the Battle of the Pyramids. Quite the contrast to the victory at the Battle of the Nile.

    Chapter 26

Well, stereotyping rich people is as problematic as stereotyping poor ones. I think your observation on Tony is really accurate. A guy like him who's 18/19 and in total denial has a long way to go. If you think about it, there are some traits he aspires to that are very noble (honesty and integrity). Maybe with some maturity and soul searching, those will be real and not imagined.

    Chapter 26

That's a great observation, and while it may seem strange to some, as I look at my own life, it is oh-so-true. Sometimes we fuck up the most when dealing with the people closest to us, and are blindest to them and their needs.

    Chapter 26

I think that it's neat now that Robbie has got his shit back together again, that he and Will can do better together. I think their intimacy is really sweet. (Awww!).

    Chapter 26

I think that Will was doing this part out of a general noblesse oblige approach, which he evidently has learned. Good news for JP! The other part would be genuine affection for Kai's family (and Kai). And finally, I think it's in appreciation for them providing him with a stable household. That must be as foreign to them as Escorial would be to Kai.

Of course. Well, you could be right. I mean, there's always a chance he won't be on board.

    Chapter 58

August 4, 1798 Aboukir Bay, Egypt Lord Granger paced the quarterdeck of His Majesty’s Ship Vanguard, feeling invigorated. He had finally managed to take a bath, despite Berry’s odd look at his request to rig the wash deck pump. He was feeling clean and chipper, he strode up and down the deck. It was hot, to be sure, but the nice breeze seemed to take most of the edge out of it. He was enjoying some time alone, having been absorbed in the busy life of the flagship. Part of

    Chapter 57

Two things. First of all, I usually go for the spectacular climax. ;-) Second, I love how you think through the battles. Personally, I don't think it would have made much difference if Villeneuve had come in, and I think that with the currents and winds, he would have had a tough go of it. I think he would have been vulnerable. He got some crap for that decision, but I think when de Brueys agreed to remain anchored, the die was cast, and his action was all but foreshadowed.

Thanks! I used to worry that they would make loading the chapters slow, but with bandwidth now, it seems to work just fine.

    Chapter 57

Well thank you very much! I'm getting ready to post 58, and I like to make sure I respond to reviews before then. I'm a little behind. :-(

    Chapter 26

I think you're right about Stef. And unfortunately, you won't get your scene at Kai's house.
