    Chapter 36

They say opposites attract, no? If you think about it, as a member of the gentry, it would make sense that Calvert would have a more, well, puritan view of relationships. Aristocrats like Granger are usually a bit more libertine in their views.

    Chapter 36

I'm glad you liked that part, and it was the opportunity to show just what you stated: the complete love Calvert has for Granger. It must be a bit of a tough go for him, to be in love with a guy who can't commit to him at that level.

    Chapter 36

I think that Calvert's resolution is probably as unrealistic as similar ones that Granger has made, but I do think he's learned to handle himself, and other relationships, much better.

    Chapter 36

I agree; I think that was a noble action on Granger's part. With the revolution in France, and the execution or persecution or aristocrats (and gentlemen), the presence of those of the old school was seriously truncated. Spain encountered no such revolution, so their hierarchy stayed in place, with all the good and bad that came with it.

    Chapter 36

Well, the invitation to dinner happened in the next chapter. :-)

    Chapter 36

I suspect that is a problem for gentlemen like Granger, as they encounter this new order of men who for whom honor and niceties are merely annoyances.

    Chapter 35

Thanks for posting a review, and recognizing that feedback is what fuels authors. It would appear this mission is accomplished, and there is nothing to do but sail home. (Insert evil laugh).

    Chapter 35

Well, it's been so long since I've responded that now it's Spring, so snowy days are at a minimum. And I gave you a long spell with nothing to read, so you could catch up.

    Chapter 35

The reviews are good, and motivating, but I feel guilty for not having responded to them in a timely manner. Busy times, my friend, busy times.

    Chapter 35

That was indeed quite a coup, to do something unheard of on three separate occasions. Good thing this is fiction. :-)

    Chapter 37

December 1797 His Britannic Majesty’s frigate Santa Clarita sailed north toward Guayaquil, slicing through the water at eight knots with the wind off her larboard quarter. Francis Calvert paced the quarterdeck of his ship, smiling as he reveled in her speed. He’d been nervous before Santa Clarita had been refitted because she’d been as slow as an old cow, and about as maneuverable as one. But now that her hull was shed of its years of weed growth, she was sailing
  12. Alright, alright. I've been busy. And I'll probably stay busy. But I do have a chapter done. I'm not sure if I should post it now, or wait and post it with it's companion chapter.
  13. Yes he does. I think that Will is a bit too much like Stef to readily settle down, even if he weren't so young. He learned his lesson in "Poor Man's Son," where you can't just fall in love with every guy you bone. He seems to do best with a cadre of guys. I think that as long as he has one of them to latch on to when he has a crisis, he really doesn't need a boyfriend. But we'll see.
  14. What makes you think either Ace or Claire are Republicans? I'm not seeing that at all. Their money is too old for that. You are correct. Paternity is complete, and I am out of town. I'm sitting here in Mexico, looking at the surf pounding into the sand, enjoying life.

    Chapter 36

November 1797 Granger smiled at the men assembled around him. They were having dinner ashore, underneath a tent that the carpenter, Morton, had built to shelter stores while they were repairing Santa Clarita. As those stores had been returned to the frigate, Granger took advantage of the opportunity to entertain his officers on the beach. “Gentlemen, you have accomplished the refit of the Santa Clarita in a remarkably short period of time. I canno
  16. Humphreys will probably have to stand a court martial for the loss of the brig. Unless he was negligent, which he wasn't, it should not be a big deal. A court martial requires a group of post captains, and there's only one post captain there now (Granger), so it will wait until they are around a sufficient number (probably 5). That means that Humphreys probably won't stand trial until he gets to England, unless he ends up in Madras first. Or Antigua. Here's how I view the difference between reviews and forums. In a review, you're having a conversation with me (pretty much). When you post in the forums, you're having a conversation with other readers. And me.
  17. Interesting ideas. Hmmm.....
  18. Dave, That's some serious pressure. Don't check every hour. LOL. Go to my author profile and click on "follow this author" and then you'll get updates if I post something new.
  19. Kody, Well I'm glad I could evoke such emotional extremes from you. LOL. It's kind of like good sex. Highs and lows. I hadn't really thought about Jeff as a narrator until you all suggested it, but it is intriguing. Most people (except Jeremy) want to see Will play a role in the next story, or so it seems. I think that it would be rough to leave him without at least a cameo role. I'd have to have a good reason to bring Wade in. He can be an integral part of most stories without narrating, especially since we've all seen more inside his mind. SPOILER: I don't see JP or Stef biting the bullet in the near future.
  20. The next one may be a bit, if only because I've been so busy lately, but I'll try not to leave you hanging for too long. Thanks so much for your feedback!
  21. Jason, Comparing my work to the Monterey Bay Aquarium is really the ultimate in flattery. I love that place, although unfortunately it's been a while since I've been back. This has been a fun road so far, and while we have some trauma ahead, it will probably still be fun in the future.
  22. Well, the current numbers (reviews and views) back that up, but all that can change. In the mean time, I'm really happy with all the attention and reviews Paternity received, not to mention that incredible Reader's Choice honor. It's kind of hard to predict what will happen to Will or Jeff. They both have so much ahead of them in terms of school and their futures. But aside from that, I can see that they might be a good match.
  23. Thanks Kevin. That poll idea has some merit. I've wondered what everyone's favorite story was, but as you noted, it's probably more accurate to break it down into segments.
  24. Thanks Tim. You've been one of my biggest fans and biggest critics, keeping me on my toes. I appreciate that. In the end, I know you've got my back. That's important. Unfortunately, I haven't started on the next story yet, but that doesn't mean I haven't thought about it. The next one will take us through 9-11-01, and that deserves some consideration.
