    Chapter 31

December, 1799 HMS Valiant, The Mediterranean Sea George Granger read the Articles of War, that onerous code of rules under which His Majesty’s Navy operated. He could probably have recited them from memory, but he used the book as a guide, to ensure he didn’t miss one. When he was done, he nodded briefly to Hercule, who began to administer the punishment. The first of twelve lashes tore into the back of a young seaman named Houghton, a man who had an unblemished record
  2. The latest installment in the CAP Series, Black Widow, has officially been launched. You'll find the prologue and the first chapter here. By the way, to get updates on this story, follow the link above, and simply click on "follow this story" in the upper right part of the blurb. If you follow all of my stories, you can actually get updates on everything, by going here and clicking on "follow this author." An FYI...I had planned to write a number of chapters of this story and publish them a bit later than this, to maintain a more regular posting pace, but the US Supreme Court decision spurred me to go ahead and launch the story now.

    Prologue

June 26, 2003 Highway 101, California Will The Durango rolled down Highway 101, sucking up the miles and the gas. It was a good road trip vehicle. I relaxed in the passenger seat, letting my Oakleys shield my eyes from the bright sun. “Camp starts tomorrow,” Zach said nervously, and I knew that meant he was about to broach the topic that had been freaking both of us out: Us. He’d graduated from high school a few weeks ago, and he was off to college. They had summe

    Chapter 1

July 12, 2003 Escorial Palo Alto, CA JJ I had pretty much decided that I was going to have a shitty time during this visit, and until today, I’d spent most of my time torturing myself. I’d missed Alex, and made myself miserable pining away for him. Then I’d think about Mary Ellen, and get pissed off at Alex for letting that skank into our lives in the first place. And of course I’d spent time thinking of all the things she could do to me when I got back to England, bu
  5. This story starts in June of 2003. The invasion of Iraq is over, George Bush has landed on the aircraft carrier and proclaimed "Mission Accomplished", and the insurgency has yet to begin. Some may think America is at the height of its power. Meanwhile, in the CAP world: JJ and Will, both in doomed relationships that seem to be working. Will they unravel, and if they do, who is behind it?

    Chapter 30

    You are welcome.

    Chapter 30

I don't know that she cares what Granger thinks. I think that she's so used to getting her way, the thought that she isn't must be agonizing to her.

    Chapter 30

Thanks! I'm not sure I'd call this the last leg of their journey, since they must ultimately go back home. We'll see what happens...I don't know yet either.

    Chapter 30

Thank you for the nice compliment. You are ahead of yourself. ;-)

    Chapter 30

I'm glad I could brighten your evening! I doubt that Lady Elgin is as easy to tame as he thinks she is, but at least he's not putting up with as much of her crap...or at least the others don't have to. I suspect the Prince was happy to escape from his governor. :-)

    Chapter 30

Well thank you for your encouraging words!

    Chapter 30

It seems that he did, and that he's implementing his plan. Can't be easy for a pampered princess to find out that her spineless husband is actually in charge.

    Chapter 30

December, 1799 Palermo, Sicily Inasmuch as there could be chaos on the deck of His Majesty’s frigate Valiant, there was chaos. The final stores Andrews had ordered hadn’t arrived until this morning, courtesy of dilatory Sicilian merchants and victuallers. And contrary to his wishes, the Elgins and their party had not yet returned. In the past, he had been able to threaten them by shortening their stays in future ports, but as this was their last planned stop, that punishmen
  14. An update for you loyal and long-suffering Granger fans. Chapter 29 was up not too terribly long ago, and Chapter 30 is in final edit and should hit in a weekish. Chapter 31 is in initial edit. So I've done a bit of writing. :-)
  15. I think this guy is a pretty good Tony, from what we can see in the pic.

    Chapter 29

Too funny. He usually doesn't get left too high and dry.
  17. Thanks much! It's a labor of love (it's been a fun story) and I also get to give Sharon a crap-load of work to do. Bonus points!

    Chapter 29

I think that, at least right now, Granger is powerful enough to be able to stick by Nelson, but Nelson isn't making it easy.

    Chapter 29

Chapter 30 is in editing, so it should take a week or so to get that one posted. No battles, but we do move ahead.

    Chapter 29

I think Granger feels the same way that you do. He finally sails in Chapter 30.

    Chapter 29

LOL. I'm thinking of the last scene.
  22. Mark Arbour

    Chapter 29

Thanks. The story has been a bit slow, but it's necessary, IMHO.

    Chapter 29

December, 1799 Palermo, Sicily Granger stood on his quarterdeck, observing the activity around Foudroyant as she evidently made ready to restock her stores. Hardy had returned to her, but Berry was still ashore. In the past, Granger would have selected Nelson as his first choice of admirals to serve under, but with this situation where Lady Hamilton had a seemingly complete hold over him, and where Berry had now returned as Nelson’s flag captain; for the first time, Granger
  24. March 19, 2003 Escorial, CA Will “Where have you been?” Zach asked, since I’d vanished for half an hour. “In the kitchen,” I said. “Dude, it’s almost time for dinner,” Zach said. “Not even I’m that hungry that I can’t wait.” “Sometimes you are,” I joked. “I’m in charge of dinner tonight.” “Yeah, I heard about that,” he said. “Frank is nervous.” “Nothing to worry about,” I said playfully. “He’ll like it.” “So what are y
