George Granger has been home for six months on parole, anxiously awaiting news that he has been exchanged, hoping that once he is, he can once again return to active duty in the Royal Navy. Now, in May, 1799, his wish is granted.

div>Before reading this story, consider:
1. It contains graphic descriptions of sex.
2. British money was denominated in either Guineas or Pounds. A Guinea was worth about 25-30 shillings, while a Pound was worth about 20 shillings. If coins are used, the reference is in Guineas, otherwise it is in Pounds. A guinea is worth approximately $300 US dollars in 2014, which means a shilling was worth approximately $10.
3. The characters in this story are fictional with the exception of some well-known historical figures. The involvement of those characters is fictional.
4. The story is written with modern day language, as opposed to that used in 18th century England.

Truly an amazing story! I enjoy the historical fiction that Mark has created. Starting from the first book you are able to see George (main character) transform through the years. This is an epic saga that I enjoy reading over and over again. Every time my bell notification goes off I’m hoping that it’s a new chapter. If you’re looking for a well written roller coaster ride you’ve come to the right place. Mark’s writing is exceptional and he’ll leave you gasping for more.

P.S. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburg, also served on the HMS Valiant in the Mediterranean, 140 years later.

As an old (80+), retired schoolteacher living in the fringes of the Brazilian rain forest in Bahia, I have depended upon Mark's writing of this series of chapters to maintain my sanity.

First point, grammar: I am famous (or infamous, as the case may be) for being a stickler for proper grammar. I am pleased to report that Mark, and his editing staff, have not disappointed me in this respect. If I am able, as nit-picky as I am, to find even one grammar error in a chapter, it is a cause for celebration – he just does NOT make the grievous errors that destroy the reader's pleasure in reading the works by other authors.

Second point, characterization: Mark's characters are alive, they live and breathe. They have emotions and express those through their dialog perfectly. They grow and react to situations and events just as if they are real people. I find myself becoming deeply involved in their emotions, likes and dislikes, as I read through the chapters. It gets to the point that I feel these are real persons, not the product of someone's pen.

Oh, I could go on and on, but to summarize, Mark is an author in every sense of the word, and well deserves a five-star rating.
