Nephy, You got my point nailed down This story is a social commentary and scary one at that. I think a lot of gay partners and even straight couples don't take enough time to think about end of life choices. It might be science fiction, but in general, the issue is not so far out of the realm of reality.

Thanks, Q I thought it would be interesting and refreshing read for everyone.

https://www.gayauthors.org/story/w-l/adreamerwithoutadream/1 Well, it is now up for your reading pleasure. Consider this my return to active writing again and science fiction. I have been holding back my ideas for a very long time and now I think I can explore them. It is a social commentary brand of science fiction, so I hope it does not detract from readers. For all those who have waited, almost 2 years, for a new chapter in W.L's science fiction universe or meta-verse, this will be a welcoming gift. A major story will be coming soon (This time a completed story with 36 chapters spread across 3 parts), if my editors do not kill me and I can make the July deadline to coincide with GA's Anniversary Novella. In the past, I have written stories based on cerebral takes on life, but I have never gone full out and done something like this story. It holds for me a new commitment towards writing my own voice and exploring humanity for its best and worse qualities. When you read this story, notice the imperfections in my characters; their fears and doubts, their hopes and beliefs. Human beings are not two dimensional, where gay = good and straight = bad. People don't just hate out of nowhere, nor do they love without exception due to nothing. I want to create a story based on a world of hopes and dreams, but filled with misguided beliefs and hidden truths. I have also begun a journey in this story on the concept of "Life", not just based on the biological processes of living, but the actual influence of living. In the tradition of Science Fiction, I am taking up a challenge against mankind's perceptions and prejudices, but not against merely a race, religion, or identifiable group of people alone, I am challenging the very notion of "life" itself through the perspective of the GLBTQ community. Even on the Soapbox, I rarely see this issue talked about, nor even addressed by liberal adherents or conservatives adherents, which adds to the poignancy of the issues. Hope readers enjoy it for all its pleasures and disturbing realities.

Dannsar had really interesting point that I hope he doesn't mind me sharing with everyone on GA about writing. A writer should focus on his vision before focusing on the details of a story. I agree with this idea, too, but I have noticed a lot of writers also use a polar opposite idea in writing, where details come first, then the plot. What do people think? Should a story outline and general vision be supreme over technical details or should details be supreme over vision? I mean you can make a case for either type of writing technique and I have done both. However, sometimes my vision gets too big and broad in my writing, which forces me to have to focus back on smaller areas. Also, technical details may be lacking in a vision based story, i.e. I could be writing about hang gliding and misrepresent the detail of how the gliders work, but it wouldn't affect the plot of the story.

Memories define our lives, but can life define memories?

A Dreamer Without A Dream By W.L If Life is a dream, how can the dreamer live without a dream? How many hours? How many days? How many years? At first, I tried to keep track of time with the number of daily visits by Brian, then he stopped coming. I tried to figure it out with the maintenance guys, who come by every week, then they stopped coming. I can’t remember much, probably because the human brain was never meant to remember things over a hundred years without losing o

One, two, Bieber's coming for you. Three, four, better lock your door. Five, six, grab your crucifix. Seven, eight, gonna stay up late. Nine, ten, never sleep again. When Justin Bieber can get into your dreams, he can become a real boy Sorry can't help making a nightmare on elm street reference.

I probably am one of the strongest adherent to conservatism and have fought many on principle. Yet, I feel like maybe we should take a breath to relax. I know how hard our lives can be, how difficult circumstances have made us colder and more alien, but in the end, we're not here to write and focus our ideals into something greater than ourselves. We are here to write out our creations, whether they are based on our thoughts, motives, political ideologies, symbolic histories, or whatever your heart contents. Maybe my little question to GA's members will amount to nothing, but at least I tried. GA is in need of a a period of peace, we've fought and continue to fight endless battles over everything, maybe it's time to give everyone a period of rest. I know several moderators have had their fill of issues recently from everyone and posters have been entrenched in their positions for a very long while. While it is natural that people will fight against one another, compete over ideas, and seek to be dominant, as human beings we are capable of being better than animals as we can take a step back from the cycle of conflict and give a pause. I guess the story of the Christmas Truce of 1914 has affected me deeply, I see a similar pattern of entrenchment here right now over ideology. We need to be reminded why we are here at GA, not for our ideology, but rather the stories we tell and the humanity that many authors have imbued in them. I am by far not a prolific writer, probably most people have not even touched any of my stories. Yet there are many others here who are many times better writers than me. These writers have stories that can touch your minds and hearts in ways that goes beyond mere fantasy, but into a place where reality and dreams or nightmares may border.

Please post it all soon, so I can read it for the next 48 hours without sleep, instead of waiting like a black Friday shopper outside of Best Buy I agree with Trebs, DK keep it going, heck if you continue this through several books or start side stories, I think a couple of us should try using the open source codes from either Halo or half life to make an interactive representation. (When I read this story, I keep thinking of my favorite pc and video games.)

No one really cared either at my college, though part of it was that no one honestly believed it. I don't come off as gay; at times girls mistake my kindness for flirting, I am just that kind of guy though. I knew gay guys and their partners, but we were not close. Part of it was just that I didn't find anything in common with them; I liked bands Plain White T's and Three Days Grace more than Evanescence or Katie Perry, I didn't think pink was the new black (don't get me started on flannel), and we just never clicked. I also did not have a long term partner in college, nor actually after college more than four months (my relationships fall apart very easily). My experience has been that of the gay guy finding my own place in the world without some one else. For me, I think it depends on the person at any college. Unless you're studying at Oral Roberts University, being gay is a personal journey in college.

I'm not a lawyer per se, I am a tax professional with legal privilege If you are interested in numbers rather than body counts or bickering husbands and wives, it's actually fun to hybridize your field. I have thought about pursuing a legal degree eventually, but I am fine at the moment.

Or offer him the several kilos of dope that Aaron Carter got caught with Almost every major star and singer has been caught with some kind of scandal, I wonder what Justin's will be?

I agree this is a nice surprise. I really missed DK's SF stories and this one is turning out to be really fun. Every time I think of it, I imagine I am playing Halo (the first one back in the day) for the first time. It's a beautiful story and I hope DK continues it.

Awesome, it's Mario going gangsta ! Love it for the fun twist on a classic, which kind of makes me want to turn on the emulator and play the games again. (My Nintendo died after a duck hunt session blew it out ) Probably a little dated to my generation and everyone under 30.

Thanks guys, I can't wait to try the food. Are there any faux pas, I should watch out for when drinking, eating, or just grabbing a bite? I heard I am not suppose to over tip as it might be a bad sign on my part, but I don't know if there's any etiquette for certain things. I don't want to stand out too much (A chubby 5'10 Chinese guy in a German town is already bad enough ).

I am going to be in Europe next month, specifically Germany and will be traveling a bit. The plan right now looks like I will be around central Europe visiting Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, and potentially northern Italy or Poland. Beer is definitely going to be part of the meal, but I do not know what is the best kind in that area or what is traditional for meals. For me, I am a big lager or Ale guy, when it comes to beer, there is something nice about the taste of wood (Gay jokes aside ) in a nice cold beer. I am not a Wine tasting person, but I do enjoy Zinfandel and Chardonnay if the taste fits the meal. Same goes with traditional red wines, I like something that works with my meal, not kill me by overpowering spice or dulls my tongue. Can anyone give me some hints about the cuisine? Any cultural faux pas I should avoid? Also, are there specific foods that I should avoid at all costs or indulge in like there is no tomorrow? This is my first time in Europe, so I want to have a good bite of it.

This Anime is very funny and short at 5 minutes an episode (You have to watch up to episode 20, then you will get hooked on the humor); it makes fun of nations and cultural idiosyncrasies. The plot basically turn nations and countries into characters. The first series deals with World War II Allies and Axis, and the second series deals with more modern issues. 1st steries http://www.hulu.com/hetalia-axis-powers 2nd series http://www.hulu.com/hetalia-world-series It's like a more politically incorrect version of the old American Cartoon "hysteria" with a little more satire and overt gay references. This episode about Switzerland and Lichtenstein made me think of old bob, didn't know Switzerland was so nice to a little Lichtenstein : Seriously, there's some fun cultural notes in these episodes that are both funny and interesting. I know the material is offensive at times to cultural sensitivity, but it's so cute. Also, Italy is such a bottom in this series

Poor kids, there is no forgiveness for betrayal on such level. FYI James, the DA story has gone national as well as this was linked from CNN: http://www.hlntv.com/article/2011/11/10/sadusky-case-and-missing-da-investigation?hpt=hp_t1 If this was an organized child prostitution ring, there's probably mob enforcers involved, so get ready for RICO hearings, if this story pans out as more than a rumor.
-
I wouldn't be surprised if there was a mob connection. College sports betting is huge and money speaks louder than a conscience in America. While the mob might seem somewhat noble like the Godfather movies or "Sopranos" on TV with high "morals", honestly, how many illegal porn rings do these guys own (Gay, Straight, Bi, Beast, Pedo, or whatever your vice is), how many underage prostitutes are working for them both girls and boys for ALL customers, and other associated businesses. The American image of the mob is not the reality. If there was a connection, it's a cold case now, unless some one rats some one else out about the "missing" DA. I doubt the cops or the FBI will find a lead beyond just the child abuse issues.

Shoot, I am a day late for the Birthday of Nephy, the dark one Happy extremely late Birthday

James, I get that it's complicated and the hierarchy sucks, but people have to take initiative. You can't let a monster lose in the world even if it is not politically convenient to do something about it. If Joe wanted to do the right thing, he could've laid the case in front and center, removed the guy, and asked for discretion from the authorities privately and with discretion. A five minute news blip is better than a several weeks of talking heads, your other team's leadership being decimated, an entire career washed away, and the untold victims that this man had molested over the years. "All it takes for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing" As for the possibility of a cover up, if there was a criminal conspiracy to hide child abuse at Penn state, it would be really interesting. The Catholic Church is still reeling from its own code of silence, who knows how far the rabbit actually goes.

It's kind of funny and sad at the same time. When a gay character is effeminate, I wonder what zany thing will happen next. When a gay character is normal and average, the character will have to sell himself to me (Yes, Hollywood man whores aside ). It is for that reason that I prefer Science fiction and Fantasy character offerings of gay and bisexual characters. This is not true though for Lesbian characters, who by in large seem to have captured a great median between sense and sensibility. While the "manly" lesbian appears from time to time, Lesbian characters have broken out in their roles. They can be mothers, cops, gun toting vigilantes, drug dealers, prostitutes, and everything under the sun. What gay males need is a break out character, some one who can be be tough like a leather guy, sensitive to their feelings like an emo, fearful like most closet cases, and simply put human. The reason why effeminate gay male characters are still the norm rather than the exception is that there is still no breakout character for us. Lesbians have had a feast of strong female characters. Heck, whenever I hear a girl at a Halloween party do the shrill "yell" in make believe armor, I still think of Xena and I was only like 10 when I caught the shows re-runs on as a kid (It was campy, but I loved it). Recently, new shows have female leads, who are openly lesbians without the issue of their sexuality bogging them down. Can some one name a gay breakout character with the same effect?
