‘You honestly think I would wear something like that?’ Brian said to himself, shaking his head. He looked at the boy with the smart phone in his hand. How old was he? Thirteen, fourteen? Two other boys joined the first. They all looked alike, dressed in sweaters and baggy jeans that revealed their underpants. The sight was a pain to his eyes.
Brian was in his forties and not for a million would he have wanted to change place with one of these boys. Brian had a moment of clarity. He ha
I wrote a few poems over the years and I liked experimenting with words, but I never considered myself a poet. I consider the prompts poetry school and my poems are homework. I actually find myself waiting for the next prompt I found that writing formal poems is even more fun than writing free-verse. Putting the words in the right place is like an intriguing puzzle. Having fun is my primary goal with the prompts.
I'm happy you liked the poem. Thank you for the feedback.
Speech to the Battered King
The time has come to speak out loud to you
And make the worries hear of troubled minds
My king and friend, we’ve come a long way here
We fought and wrought on many battlefields
The battle’s lost, however not the war
Let’s rise as one man, stand against our foe
Together we will turn the wheel of fate
And make this day a glorious feat of war
My king and friend, let’s carry on our way
Like phoenix rise and win the war and praise
Daydreams
He's the kind of guy
Who knows a lot about women
He likes to talk about girls
But when he starts to daydream
He likes to dream of boys
Sometimes I look at him and I look into his eyes
I notice the way he dreams of boys with a smile
Daydreams he just can't hide
She's a dazzling girl, he says
He likes to hang out with Laura
He likes to talk about girls
But when he stops his talking
His mind turns back to boys
She’s a real hottie, he says
He likes to kick back with Liz
I think I worked eight hours on the poem, but it was fun. Now that it's published, I can't submit it to the anthology, I think. Thanks for the feedback.
