I saw the end coming. But I very much enjoyed this story. A serious topic told in a very nice and enjoyable way. The story left me with a good feeling and the thought: Yes, it is all right
I first thought that the story was a cliche story, deliberately written as a cliche story. the setting sun, the tears streaming down his face, a happy relationship ended by a heart-attack....
Then I realized that something unexpected can make a cliche a very real and very serious experience. And a very personal experience.
Another very good story!
When Edward and Brian met, I instantly thought that Edward was a ghost. Then the name on the gravestone was revealed and I thought: Oh, this story was easy to see through. So, the last sentence was a true surprise!
Many thanks for reading and for your detailed review, Kit
I deliberately leave the interpretation to the readers. Personally, I'd say that Terence heard of Antinous and Hadrian and forgot about that story. His subconscious made up a new story. It linked Antinous and Hadrian's nile cruise and Antinous' death with his own nile cruise and his painful experience and sad relationship.
Thanks for reading and commenting, Graeme. I googled the picture. It was titled Antinous. So I thought it showed him. Hmm... Anyway, I'm glad you liked the story.
It's nothing uncommon to see two girls - regardless of sexual orientation - hugging, embracing and kissing on the cheeks (at least in Europe). People are used to it and don't feel uncomfortable. They are less used to see hugging and kissing boys.
