  10. Jeremy's age is very firm and definite- he was born on Saturday, December 7, 1985. So at the time of the story, JJ's 9 years old and will turn 10 at the end of 1995. He should be in the class of 2004, if things go right- but...you never know. Darius's age is more of a question mark- we've talked about it before, but we've never settled on a firm birthdate for Darius. I think we've estimated that Darius's birthday is anywhere between November 1981, to March 1982. So he's about 13 years old, but we're not sure if he's going to turn 14 in 1995, or if he'll turn 14 in 1996. Either way, I think Darius won't start high school until fall 1996, making him class of 2000. Mark, you wanna hold a contest where the lucky winner can pick Darius's birthdate? LOL. Will's age is also firm and definite- his birthday is September 14, 1986, so he's eight-soon-to-be-nine, and will graduate with the class of 2005. And probably be the damned valedictorian. LOL. The fact that Darius and Jeremy are 13 and 9 years old, respectively, makes this case interesting- it might've been different if Bitty had tried to get the kids back in say, 1988, when they were still pretty little, but Darius is an adolescent while puberty is just around the corner for JJ.
  11. Chapter 17 -When they're sitting around Marcel's hospital bed, and Stefan feels like he'll make it. And he does, waking up. "All Apologies" by Nirvana http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTRXzkRis-s -When we meet Casey, who looks like an absolute dork. Stefan being Stefan, he gets Alejandro to play nice. Most surprising, he gets him to be open about accepting Casey despite him not being the hottest guy. "Buddy Holly" by Weezer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiIC5qcXeNU -When dorky Casey gets a makeover, as Stefan wants Alejandro to have a suitable "playmate". "Kids In America" by The Muffs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMaJncc0gk8 -When Bitty gets the sheriff to take back custody of the kids. "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" by Smashing Pumpkins
  12. Chapter 5 http://nifty.nisusne...k/on-the-mark-5 -When Mark and Mari lose their virginity to each other, at the tender age of 14. "Life's A Bitch" by Nas http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ewdZzLP6Bk -When Stefan calls up Brad for a heads up about Bitty, so he can strategize immediately. "Somebody to Shove" by Soul Asylum http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfLuUsxrhiw -When they get Marcel's condo, and find that he's overdosed on drugs, just like his father did. "Say It Ain't So' by Weezer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyfyhKga-6Y -When Stefan gets to the ICU, and finds Max is already there. "Lithium" by Nirvana http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x698XNiV6T8 -When Marcel's former lovers, JP and Max, break down and cry in the ICU while Stefan tries to stay strong. "Stay" by Shakespeare's Sister *** God, the 90's really had SUCH a diverse music scene And "Say It Ain't So" is the song I picked for Marcel's downfall over "Waterfalls". But I think I have another idea for it.
  14. Chapter 15 -When J.P. and Jason make up in one rather physical way. "Far Behind" by Candlebox http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XOGh8n0kG0 -When Cody puts Alejandro into his place, calling him out for throwing himself at guys like a cheap whore. "You Better Work" (1992 remix) by RuPaul http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVHwU4kuHXs
  15. Good point. I just thought it fit the mood of 14-year old Mark moping around in his bedroom over the boy sending out mixed signals. "At Seventeen" is SUCH a good brooding song, I think. But "Wildfire" and "Midnight Blue" were especially cheesy, I think. But in a good way. I have two cheesy songs in mind for this story- "Sentimental Lady" and "Brokenhearted Me", but they're from 1978, so I can't use them just yet since it's still 1976 in this story. One thing that's nice about doing music for this is the fact that Mark already has so many song pics for a lot of the scenes. Nice. Makes this easier. LOL. So far, my favorite pick has been "Sarah Smile" for Mark finally getting to fool around with a girl. I love that song. And it's something you can imagine a person losing their virginity to. (Or, in this case, finally getting to second base for the first time. With a girl.) I also really liked the comedic mental image of Mark being so thrilled at finding a pot field that "This Will Be' plays. LOL.
  16. Chapter 4 http://nifty.nisusne...k/on-the-mark-4 -When Mark and Darryl sit around the pool, getting baked and listening to songs on the radio. "Carry on My Wayward Son" by Kansas "Blinded by the Light" by Bruce Springsteen http://www.youtube.c...h?v=BN6zFN8cAPs "Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynrd http://www.youtube.c...h?v=pw3mFzet48c "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult -When Mark and Mari hook up in his pool for the first time, and Mark gets to second base. "Sarah Smile" by Hall and Oates -When Van's parents drive him and Mark up to the mountains for some hiking. "Disco Duck" by Rick Dee http://www.youtube.c...h?v=ym2bXh6v0yo "Get Down Tonight" by KC and the Sunshine Band http://www.youtube.c...h?v=7lu81z2E6pE -When Mark finds the pot field. "This Will Be" by Natalie Cole -When Mark and Van get high, and fool around with each for the first time. "Right Back Where We Started From" by Maxine Nightingale http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87LlIN25izI "Love Machine" by the Miracles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFoLjFGKMHw
  17. Chapter 3 http://nifty.nisusne...k/on-the-mark-3 -When Darryl starts the process of turning Mark into an athletic swimmer. "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple -When Mark describes his neighborhood friends, who range from upper middle class to rich, and cool to utter snob. "Young Americans" by David Bowie http://www.youtube.c...h?v=QiaoRdOUPI8 -When Darryl shows Mark how to "kiss a girl". Among other things. "Show Me the Way" by Peter Frampton -When Darryl "leaves for the weekend", and Mark spends the day listening to maudlin 70's songs before Mari gets him out of his "maudlin tailspin". "At Seventeen" by Janis Ian http://www.youtube.c...h?v=ClgfwBMsB1w "Midnight Blue" by Melissa Manchester http://www.youtube.c...h?v=55rasuh3VfQ "Wildfire" by Michael Murphy http://www.youtube.c...h?v=DIkpqdjU-qo -When Mark runs into Darryl at the mall, who's "picking up things" before he leaves. "Lying Eyes" by Eagles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HN83XfUVWQU -For the 4th of July party...America celebrates its 200th birthday, while Mark gets befuddled by his continuing sexual maturation that seems to be pointing him in two directions. "Philadelphia Freedom" by Elton John
  18. <<<<Research is going to be key, but I wonder what this may affect in the future in a world without AIDS or fear of AIDS being a death sentence.>>> I'm not saying this is a right perception, but it seems like the vast majority of young people I meet today aren't all that concerned with AIDS, because people are living longer with AIDS medication in the Western World. Back in the 1990's, it seemed like you constantly saw safe sex ads on TV and people talking about using condoms to prevent AIDS. Now, it seems like the current teenage/twentysomething generation just doesn't get that. Here's an article about AIDS apathy in young people: AIDS Apathy In Young People Seriously, it's f**king scary to hear the way guys talk about having unprotected sex. It really is like there's absolutely no fear of AIDS, at least in the United States, because we're just not seeing people die off the way they were back in the 1980's and 1990's. South Park actually did an interesting episode about the total apathy you see about AIDS in the U.S. today- that it's seen as some 90's disease we don't have to worry about anymore. Though it was satire, that's sadly closer to the truth than I'd like to see.
  19. We're just on chapter 2. Trust me, we're going to find out a lot more. LOL.
  20. Chapter 14 -When Marcel opens up to Stefan about what a mess he's made of everything. "Creep" by Stone Temple Pilots http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9gcae3qrDA -When Marcel tries to make up with Max. "Glycerine" by Bush -When Max relays his intention to get back with Marcel after some time to heal, and then enages in some kinky sex with the guys. "Today" by the Smashing Pumpkins http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIwUxq0BMSE -When we meet Alejandro, and Jason comes onboard to try and make some amends. "Come As You Are" by Nirvana http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOL5cpwTkes
  21. Chapter 2 http://nifty.nisusne...k/on-the-mark-2 -When Mark notices the next day at school that his social standing has ever-so slightly improved, and hangs out with Darryl's burner friends. "Long Way to the Top" by AC/DC -At Darryl's house, where Mark checks out Derrick's bulge and butt in his blue jeans while they get high. "Blue Jeans" by Skyhooks http://www.youtube.c...h?v=XQnYSI_tCD0 -When Mark convinces Darryl to go his house to swim, but gives him a blow job beforehand. "You Sexy Thing" by Hot Chocolate
  22. Okay, after finishing the Land Whore, I realize I still want to do more 70's stuff. And then I thought about Mark's 11-chapter story "On the Mark". Not finished, and not going to be finished, but I thought it would be fun to do music stuff for this story, since in terms of time period setting, it's right between "The Land Whore" and "Be Rad". And it's a way to introduce you to Mark's great work- never finished, but I thought it was a great story. Again, don't get into reading it if you're going to be bothered that it isn't finished, LOL. It's also not as clear about what year each chapter takes place in, so I prolly can't avoid the anachronisms. But, whatever. LOL. Finally, there's a lot of music I wanted to use for Be Rad, or have since discovered since doing the Be Rad story, so...yeah. Chapter 1 http://nifty.nisusne...k/on-the-mark-1 -When Mark introduces himself as a nerdy kid in mid-1970's and clues us in on the various styles that kids of the time had. "Sweet Emotion" by Aerosmith http://www.youtube.c...h?v=iTtffG1UKFw -When Aaron Bryce threatens to beat up Mark after school for being an f-word. "Why Can't We Be Friends?" by War http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z40NhAgNbnM -When Darryl stands up for Mark, becoming his friend in the process. "You're My Best Friend" by Queen -When Darryl corrupts Mark with oral sex and weed. "Have A Cigar" by Pink Floyd
  23. Thanks, Mark. It's been a blast. And the early 1970's was a pretty rich time in music- definitely much easier than when I was trying to do stuff for 1980. Geez. NOT a good year for American music, 1980 was. 1973 couldn't be anymore different, though.
  24. Chapter 30 http://markarbour.ga...nicles/lw30.php -As Stefan updates us on how the past four months of 1974 have gone for everyone. "Seasons in the Sun" by Terry Jacks -When Stefan watches generation two interact with each other, getting a feel for who they'll be as adults. "Sing A Song" by Sesame Street(1971 version) http://www.youtube.c...h?v=EOFY52PAPoc -When Stefan talks to Armand's mother in Paris, and offers his loyal friendship to her in return that she continue being Armand's supportive mother. "Lean On Me" by Bill Withers -When Stefan catches Greg breaking the rules at his house when he gets home, and becomes depressed because he doesn't know if he'll ever be able to really trust him. Nonetheless, they have sex when they get back home. "I Can't Change It" by Frankie Miller -When Stefan and Greg have to administer shots to themselves to cure their VD, and decide they're finished with those Gordon sex parties. "Taking Care of Business" by Bachman Turner Overdrive http://www.youtube.c...h?v=X6Abk1wqHz4 -In August 1974...as Richard Nixon resigns, and Stefan and Greg confirm their love for one another. "The Joker" by Steve Miller Band http://www.youtube.c...h?v=5yle1USyhCY *** Alright guys, it's been great picking up where Mark left off and doing the final ten chapters of music for the Land Whore. Hope you guys enjoyed it!
  25. Chapter 29 http://markarbour.gayauthors.org/chronicles/lw29.php -When Stefan lies in a coma after getting shot, drifting in and out of conciousness. "If You Could Read My Mind" by Gordon Lightfoot -When Roger talks to Stefan in his coma, willing his friend to wake up. "Cherish" by David Cassidy -When Brad talks to Stefan in his coma, willing his blood brother to wake up...and he does. "Daniel" by Elton John -When Stefan and Greg are reunited at the hospital. "Your Song" by Elton John -When Stefan talks to one of the guys who were involved with the shooting, and shows mercy. "Live and Let Die" by Paul McCartney and Wings -When Stefan and Greg make love to each other at the end, healing from their experience.
