I don't think Jeanine or Robbie do. I'm pretty sure that Brad has the legal custody of JJ ever since his biological mother Bitty died in If It Fits, which was set in 1995.

It's the Midwestern rust belt mentality. Seriously, I remember spending time in Western PA. Stunningly beautiful landscapes, but there was a melancholy to the people there that you just don't see in the bland Northeastern suburbia that I come from.

I've always pictured a 20-something JJ, sitting in the back sipping some mead and making catty comments to his teenaged cousin Courtney about the various debacles of their family members during holiday gatherings in the early 2010's.

That makes a lot of sense. The other possibility is that Curtis made a deal with the devil, and he must sacrifice his second born son before the age of 18 and the devil's due.

I don't know if I'd say that- he and Brad are still (as of 2004) working out the damage that their relationship had in this story. That said, I did remember having a strongly negative reaction to this storyline, and it was reinforced when I had to watch an emancipation storyline on the ABC nighttime soap Nashville with the Maddie character that I couldn't stand. LOL It took me until 9/11 to fully like Will as a character. But at the end of the day, this is a soap, and soaps continually excuse characters from misbehaviors because you can't have everybody on the canvas ushered off into jail.

Chapter 16: Mistaken Identity -For the family dinner back at Escorial JP introduces Marcel, announces that he's HIV negative, and Claire announces that she is having their first grandchild. "Our House" by Madness -When Brad and Robbie get back from the States, have sex, and Marcel is again watching them. And Brad admits that he likes being watched. "Pretty Young Thing" by Michael Jackson -When Brad goes to the dig, admits to JP that he withdrew from the Sorbonne, and tries to figure out his next step. "It Ain't What You Do( It's The Way That You Do It) by Fun Boy Three with Bananarama -When Brad gets really lit, has sex with what he thinks is Robbie, and gets confused when Robbie comes in and seems really pissed off. "Eyes Without A Face" by Billy Idol *** Can I just take a moment and say...DAYUM, Billy Idol had one amazing face circa 1984! So beautiful and expressive, yet also cruel and tough. Absolutely fascinating. Whoever came up with the concept for the "Eyes Without A Face" video was a genius, capitalizing on the utter photogenic face of Billy.

Chapter 15: Negative -When Marcel's stepfather sells him for 600k francs. "Money for Nothing" by Dire Straits -When JP learns that he is not, in fact, HIV positive and he and Brad celebrate. "Dancing in the Street" by David Bowie and Mick Jagger -When JP tells Robbie and Mouse that he's not positive, and kisses Mouse passionately after declaring that he won't leave him. "Never Surrender" by Corey Hart -When Brad and Robbie have sex, and Marcel watches them. "Rhythm of the Night" by DeBarge

It took Adam ten years to do it, and I'm glad he did. I think a big part of why Adam walked away a couple of years after he did is because he accomplished what he wanted to do and he realized he was struggling to stay invested in his online community after doing so.

I remember finding it fascinating how very in touch with his 18-year old self that Adam Phillips was. Like his psyche froze at that moment in the beach with "Matt." Not in bad way, and I bet he's great at teaching college because he never really left that mindset. Meanwhile I've been a grouchy 50-year old since I was 22. Lol

"St. Elmo's Fire" (Man in Motion) by John Parr -When Mouse insists that Billy is still alive, and Brad thinks he's gone crazy but accompanies him to the restaurant anyway. "Flesh for Fantasy" by Billy Idol -When the gang meets Marcel, a 16-year old French boy who looks like the spitting image of Jeff. "Vienna" by Ultravox -When JP confronts Marcel's mother about her having prostituted herself to Jeff back in 1968. "Angel of the Morning" by Merilee Rush

Chapter 13: Claire's Wedding -When they fly to Paris. "Holiday Road" by Lindsey Buckingham -When Brad and Robbie meet again with his therapist, who assures Robbie that he'll be okay. "How Soon Is Now?" by the Smiths -For Jack's bachelor party. "We Need A Lover" (Tonight) by Motley Crue Once grunge happened, you never saw rock like this again. -For Jack and Claire's wedding. "Crazy for You" by Madonna You guys didn't actually think I'd use "White Wedding", did you? Too predictable, and if you actually listen to the lyrics, it's about a brother being completely disapproving of the guy his sister is marrying. So it didn't fit. "Crazy for You" reminds me so much of the 80's...man it was a standard wit us kids back in the eighties. Edited to add in 2023: I was 23 when I wrote that and my god I'm cringing. No wonder Adam found me so annoying. LMAO And for those of you that don't remember this tune...well. I hoped you guys liked it. Madonna really could knock things out of the ballpark back in the 80's. -When Brad hears about just how badly Bitty is doing, and talks to Robbie about his childhood before JP and his family took him in. Chapter 12: A Pregnancy -When they screen "Back to The Future", and everyone's pleased that it'll probably be a big hit. "Back in Time" by Huey Lewis and the News I gotta take this moment and say...I am a HUGE sucker for time travel films, particularly "Back to the Future". When I was a little kid I used to try and recreate the scene where Marty gets back to 1985 when lighting hits the clock tower using blocks and my toy cars. Usually when I tell people I was born in '85, they go, "Wow, that's the Back to the Future year!" Shades of just how huge this movie was/still is. (2023: I don't really get that anymore. Now I just get told how old I am. LMAO) -When Brad and Robbie run into Max and Lark. Then Brad and Max talk about how much it sucks for Max to be into a guy who can't admit he likes guys. "Long Hot Summer" by The Style Council - For 4th of July weekend at Claremont. "Born in the USA" by Bruce Springsteen - When they leave Claremont, taking Darius on his first plane ride. "I'm Free" (Heaven Helps the Man) by Kenny Loggins -When Brad and Bitty talk about her new baby to be born in February 1986, and she refuses to say who the father is. That's the fun part about being able to go back. Neither of these guys were known in 2009 when I was doing my original fancasts. LOL Also, the leather bomber jacket on my "Ace" guy just feels very mid-1980's. LOL

Yes, I remember posting a video a Youtuber did on Hawthorne. The area isn't good which is this place hasn't gotten demolished and rebuilt yet. I have a soft spot for The Sherman Oaks Galleria (aka the Fast Times at Ridgemont High mall), which was converted into other uses in 1999. I believe the Westwood Mall (famous for Terminator 2) is being turned into an office complex, Puente Hills (Back to the Future mall) is struggling really hard. There's also this really cool Korean mall that got bought up and probably will get turned into fancy condos or something.

Did the Capitola Mall completely die, or no? I remember coming across that mall from videos shot by the dead mall enthusiast community.

Mark has said that a lot of the tension and conflict comes from Will having precocious puberty that made him physically look about 4-5 years older than he actually is. There's a pretty interesting article on the Cut by a writer named Patrick Burleigh, who suffers from an inherited family trait of precocious male puberty. It was a bit more extreme than Will's (fictional) case, but you can see a lot of the parallels. In all likelihood Will probably started undergoing puberty around the age of 8, hence him feeling more like a 19-year old at the age of 14. I imagine once Will is 20 and his peers have caught up to him, he'll be alright.

You don't have faith in Will's ability to evolve?

Cody and Jeanine conceived Maddie Graves together, while Wade and Tiffany conceived Riley Danfield. Tiffany and Jeanine wanted to have kids so they had an orgy with some of the lead characters. Maddie and Riley are being raised as essentially twins by Tiffany, Wade, and Matt in Boston, along with Matt's son Bobbie who he had with Tiffany. Tiffany being pregnant with Bobbie was the catalyst for JJ moving from Boston to New York City, as she announced her intention to retire from coaching JJ at the same time JJ won the 2003 National Ice Figure Skating Championship. JJ then broke his leg doing a quadruple jump to try and impress a new figure skating coach, and after his injury JJ decided he was done. I think maybe if Tiffany hadn't been pregnant with Bobbie JJ might have tried for a comeback, but he's decided to finish up high school at St. Ann's School in Brooklyn and then going into world of fashion consulting.
