Well, as I have been preaching for weeks, a divorce is in the works between the Senator and Elizabeth. B1ue, I can certainly understand how you were viewing the situation but a divorce actually seems to make sense for these two. The Senator can go on his merry way and find a nice trophy wife and Elizabeth can go on her way with her many millions and find a younger black lover that can just shock everyone... LOL... I do have a couple of concerns about this divorce though... One, what will happen to Goodwell??? It will obviously stay with the Senator but will he really be able to afford to keep it up like Elizabeth did? Maybe he would just go ahead and turn it over to Wade and keep a lifetime estate on it? Second, what is gonna happen to Trevor? Elizabeth has the goods on his bank issues and can really strike at him without a lot of fear of retaliation from anyone since he is her soon to be ex-husbands nephew. Can the Senator and Wade protect him? Third, where is Beau gonna fall out in all of this? You know that Mary Ellen is gonna at least nominally stay with Elizabeth but what about Beau? He seems to be closer to his mother in the past stories but with everything that has come out will that stay true? Is Matt about to be responsible in a greater way for his little brother? I hope that Nana stays around for a while, I don't see her as a redux of Tonto as some have suggested but I do find her to be a hoot and am really enjoying her in the stories... Maybe she can help run the new center in Washington DC for the gay youths, wouldn't that just annoy Elizabeth some more... Now let's talk about the action with Wade and Gathan... Damn, Mark that was some good writing and visuals being created... The only thing that would have made it better was if Matt was involved. As I stated in my review, I do think that Wade and Matt are solid now. I sort of think that Matt needing assurace periodically is sort of cute as I see him as the hotter guy... Gathan has never been one of my favorites but was nice to see him back. Maybe as we switch back to Will, we will see if Kristen really got through to Ella on how her actions were wrong. And I thought it was sort of nice that Wade had that moment when he got a look at what Will has been going through from his own actions... Another outstanding chapter Mark, and I have to wonder if this is going to be the CAP story that hits one hundred chapters?????

I have been saying for the last five or six chapters that the Senator was going to be asking Elizabeth for a divorce... I do think the loss of the Senator will cut into Elizabeth's powerbase as well. She will still have money probably from a trust set up by her grandparents and some from her father as well but her resources will be much less after all of this. I really enjoy Nana, not sure she is that much like Tonto, but do think she is a hoot... I could see her sticking around for quite a while. The scene with Wade and Gathan was hot hot hot... The only thing that would have made it hotter would have been if it was a threeway with Matt... I think Wade and Matt are really pretty secure, and Matt's need for assurance is sort of cute to me since I picture him as the hotter guy of the two.

Well, I never really thought that JP and Jeff would end up together in the end; but his death just knocked the wind totally out of my lungs and I really couldn't breathe for a few minutes when it happened. Even when I go back and reread the stories, that moment always makes me sad for the lost promise of what was or might have been... See, I see Calvert as a danger to Granger not as someone that could really support him. Their relationship has already caused remarks by some and Calvert's behaviour with others has caused comments by others. Even after Caroline and Calvert came to their agreement, I really think Calvert is more a danger to Granger in the long run that anything else. With Calvert in his life, Granger will always run the risk of exposure because Calvert at times is just way to obvious, remember on Gibraltor with that marine??? p.s. I added a like to the first comment by you, Sharon, because it was just funny as hell....

Well, this chapter was so good, I just had to read it twice... I really liked how Wade and Nana were able to keep Elizabeth and her team in the dark in regards to Nana's true condition... Nana being that clear headed really blew them out of the water. I was so glad that JP and Wade had figured out what Elizabeth was up to with the land deal months ago. The fact they were that on the ball enabled them to be ready to refute Elizabeth's charges, even if they came from someone else. With Gabriel in the courtroom, you just know all of this is going to come out and when it does the shit is really gonna hit the fan. I can't wait to see Elizabeth's face when she finds out that a reporter was in the courtroom as a friend of Wade's... It isn't just that the issues with the competency hearing will come out, but all the blowback about the land deal will as well, plus some juicy little personal tidbits... If the Senator is actually planning on leaving Elizabeth, this might all make that easier. As I noted in the review section, the Senator can claim Elizabeth did all of this behind his back and he just can't deal with all of her double dealing and back stabbing any more. He might even win some sympathy for having put up with such a bitch so long... Plus, don't forget he just got re-elected and has six years to let the voters forget about all this... A new bright bubbly younger wife might help with that... Elizabeth is still going to be dangerous no matter what, she may not have as much reach without all the money but don't forget, she has her own trust established by her grandparents no doubt... Plus, Elizabeth knows a lot of secrets, even if she can't prove them all, knowledge always gives you some power....

This was so good, I had to read it twice... I just loved how Wade and Nana were able to keep Nana's true condition secret. There is nothing better than the suprise element in a motion hearing like that, a competency hearing were the individual is really competent... You know, in some ways all this might make it easier for the Senator to leave Elizabeth, if that is what he has in mind. He can say that she has been doing all of this behind his back and he just can't control her and how her actions are destroying his family... It might even win him a few sympathy votes. Also, remember, he just got re-elected so has six years to let the voters forget these happenings...

Well, already made a few comments in the forum but wanted to get my two cents in here as well... I still think Granger should send the Britsh Consul packing on a ship bound for England, this would at least disrupt any flow of goods coming toward Rio before Granger can get to the Far East and deal with Maidstone and Bertie... He could remove the consul on the grounds of not fulfilling his duties because of how run down the consulate is and how his actions are playing out in Rio in regards to payouts of prize ships, etc.. This would dovetail nicely with the reason the Honorable Mr. Cochrane was sent out to Rio... This would remove an essential cog in the plan without tipping Granger's hand that he was aware of the nefarious plan that is afoot...

I don't know, I would have thought Calvert was younger than Robbie... I have just never been able to warm up to Calvert, he is one of the few creations of Mark's from either CAP or Bridgemont that I find completely boring and annoying... I thought about what he said about Granger liking to take baths; but I thought since he bascially had spent the whole night aboard the ship the night before, that someone made mention of it... Maybe I was wrong and there is another spy aboard..... I owe you a like, ran out of them today... Well, I certainly respect someone trying to save a favorite person in the series but that being said; I hope my powers of light and goodness can overcome the dark in this instance... I have just never found any creation in either of Mark's signature series CAP or Bridgemont that I found to be so boring and yet so annoying at the same time... I would never again bitch about Jeff's death in 1968, which has always been my biggest gripe, if we could just do away with Calvert... He is just too boring to end up with Granger and his death would give so much happiness to so many....

I know that and really appreciate what goes into each chapter but they are just so damn good that I can't wait for the next one...

Well the new chapter is up and it seems that the intrigue is just all around Granger. It is obvious that Granger's new friend is well aware of the plan and really doesn't want Granger to do anything to disrupt it, at least not yet... I just don't think that Granger will be able to leave without making some move. I still like the idea of him ordering the British Consul back to London to explain himself... Granger would have the authority to place him on a British ship and order it to sail... Mark, I think that you need to have about three chapters of Odyssey for each chapter of Paternity... I am sure this won't make me popular with all but well, off with their heads....

Well, by the time that Granger gets through with everything, Bertie may just be staying put if he so desires. I certainly do hope that Lord Chartley returns with Granger and I am sure Mark can write a moving chapter where Calvert gets a fever and dies in George's arms and Chartley consoles him all the way back to England...

I always found it very interesting that Earl Hammer, who developed Falcon Crest, was also the person behind The Waltons. That always stuck me as weird, one show about this wholesome loving family and the other about a group of backstabbing money grubbing two timers... LOL... I still remember that final speech that Angel Channing, Jane Wyman, gave to end the show... She actually wrote the speech herself and it was quite long and had a really nice montage of all the main people from the shows over the years... In it's final season only three of the original cast was still on the show.

As long as Granger has the proper papers from the King and the Privy Council, Maidstone can't touch him. On the other hand, with those papers, Granger can do just about any damn thing he wants to Maidstone, Johns Company be damned... The East Indian Act of 1773 and the Pitt's India Act of 1784 clearly established the authority of the Crown over the East India Company. While the company was able to maintain a great deal of leeway in it's actions, these acts clearly made the company answerable to the Crown and the Government...

rjo's comment made me remember those great nighttime soaps from the 80's, I just loved them all... Said to hear about the passing of Larry Hagman, he was a great JR Ewing; that constant smile of his was just always a little creepy... This all made me think about Elizabeth and Wade going to war with each other... Elizabeth sort of reminds me of Angela Channing from Falcon Crest. I always thought that Angela Channing was the smartest of all the villians of that era; but the one redeeming quality was that she truly did love her family and her winery. She just wanted everyone to do what she wanted, how she wanted it done, and when she wanted it...

I get the feeling that while the Earl is invested with John Company, it is not one of his major positions. He is heavily invested in land and other industries as well. I do think he dabbles in the John Company business but I don't think he would ever do anything to blackguard. The Earl maybe blinded by ambition from time to time but he in most ways has very old fashioned morals. I think a previous commentor maybe right, Bertie may have found out what was going to happen and not even he was willing to actually sell items to the enemy in a time of war... I think that Clydee is right about this; I actually hadn't even thought about this from Bertie's point of view yet...

The new chapter is up and WOW... I just love the place that Wade and Matt are in now; they seem to be able to read each other without anything being said. It is such a change from what seems like just a short while ago... I really think these two are going to last maybe easier than any other couple in the CAP universe. I think that Wade and Nana played that just perfect with Elizabeth. I do think they all need to be very careful, Elizabeth is bound to try something before Monday. She will either bribe someone to get information or try to have them do something to Nana. I hope that Jack is able to keep people he trust around her. I can't wait for Claire to get through with her makeover and the impression that will have on Elizabeth and the court when she shows up on Monday. I hope this doesn't delay or change what the Senator is going to do that he will be talking to Wade about next Friday. I really think the Senator is going to leave Elizabeth and I can't wait to see how that plays out. I just freaking love this story....

Great chapter, I can't wait for that court appearance with Nana out from under the influence of drugs; that being said, I wouldln't trust Elizabeth not to try several things before Monday... I just love how Wade and Matt interact and really seem to understand each other. They are finally in a really great place. I have to wonder how this is going to effect whatever the Senator was going to talk to Wade about on the following Friday... Now that is the conversation that I have been waiting for the last several chapters... We keep getting little hints but I just think it is going to be a doozy...

The newest chapter of Odyssey is up and it is the start of a grand adventure. I can see that Granger and crew will have plenty of trials and tribulation from here till they are back in England. It seems that the scheme to replace Bertie is much more devious then even I imagined. I can't wait to see the look on the British Consul's face when he finds out that Granger is really the one in charge... If there is a ship in the harbour that is sailing for England, Granger can have the counsul arrested and placed on the ship and just stay there until it sails... Once underway, it is doubtful that with Granger's clout and authority from the King that anyone will allow the cousul to escape...

Well, I think my deal with the Battle of the Nile is like the Battle of Midway; the victories there really were when the tides changed and never really reversed again. With the victory at the Battle of the Nile or Aboukir Bay, depending on your point of view; the British really took control fo the Mediterranean Sea and never were seriously challenged there again. They were able to thwart Napoleon's attempt to seize Egypt and advance onto India. In addition, the British Navy did serious damage to French forces during the siege of Acre in Syria. The bombardment from the sea doomed the siege and was another stinging defeat for the French forces. Malta, which was captured by the French fleet on the way to Egypt, fell to the British and Malta rebels. The defeat of the French fleet directly encouraged the Austrian-Hungarian Empire to reinvade Italy to challege France over the territory it had recently lost to France; in addition, the defeat was also responsible for the emergence of fighting between France and Russia. These actions lead to the formation of the Second Coalition, which declared war on France in 1799. The Ottamon Empire, which had been neutral up to this point, used the defeat as an excuse to go to war with France as well. While the Battle of Trafalgar was very important, in many ways it was only made possible because of the British victory at the Battle of the Nile. Forester. He also ranked the Battle of Tsushima as the only battle in history to come close to it in importance. As we all know, this author was responsible for the Horatio Hornblower series of books as well. He is one of my favorite authors....

Ditto, almost every adult portrayed on this show annoys me in some way... Maybe I am just getting to bitchy in my old age...

I really enjoyed the latest chapter of Paternity. I can't wait to see how far Elizabeth will go to keep the power and position that her family money gives her. I almost feel like we should be getting ready for the Rumble in the Jungle with Ali and Frazier, except we know how Elizabeth feels about black men... I still can't wait to see what the Senator is up to, I think this meeting he keeps talking about with Wade is going to blow a lot of peoples mind's... I don't know why but I think this may change the outlook for a lot of what is going on between Wade and his mother. Even with her family money, a great deal of her influence comes from having a Senator as a husband. I have to wonder how long that will last???

Hate to see any child caught up in something like this.... That being said, I must be the only gay man in America that just can't stand that damn show...

I would personally rank the Battle of the Nile as more important in the long run than the Battle of Trafalgar. Probably, the only two naval battles in history more important than the Battle of the Nile were the Battle of Tsushima and the Battle of Midway..... I don't know why, because I have never been much of a sailor, but I have always loved naval histories...

I really enjoyed the latest chapter of Paternity. I loved the Thanksgiving dinner scene, actually reminded me of some of my past family get togethers... Like PrivateTim, my first thought is what denomination are the Danfield and the Garretts? Can't say that I have been to many churches on the east coast but in Texas; the only ones that I know that use Father are the Catholic, Lutheran, and a couple Episcopalians of the High Church, might as well be Catholic... Most Methodist, Baptists, Episcopalians, and Presbyterian use the term Reverend or the Very Reverend. I can't see the Danfields as Baptists, way to much public drinking, dancing, and sex... A great many of the old money families on the East Coast are either Methodist, Episcopalians, or Presbyterian... Something we could be over looking is that the time that this story is taking place saw the rise of the so called megachurches and the leaders of those were often non-denominational and titled themselves however they wanted. These megachurches often had satelite churches and the leaders would title themselves the same as the head of the megachurch. My second thought is that Elizabeth made her move against her mother after the death of her brother Roscoe Garrett... Do we know what his will said??? Just as Elizabeth had a sizable trust, I am sure that her brother had one as well... Who got the money from it??? Trust in families like this are usually set up by the Grandparents for Grandchildren so often the ability to disolve or intefer with the trust is taken out of the parents hands. I am sure that Elizabeth and Roscoe's trust were set up by their grandparents so even after Roscoe came out, I doubt his parents had the ability to effect the trust in many ways except to maybe delay his access to it. Who did Roscoe leave his money to and who has been controlling it... And this is just an fyi to methodwriter, none of the Bush's are in the same league wealth wise as the oil families in the country. At least two of the members of same generation as the 43rd President had to declare bankruptcy and the 43rd President was really considered a failure in business until the owners of the Texas Rangers decided they needed a new stadium. They named George W managing partner and basically arranged for him to borrow the 600,000.00 dollars he invested in the club. They got their new stadium and when Bush sold his part later he made more than 15,000,000.00 dollars from his previous investment and the tax payers that paid for the stadium got screwed... A strange coincidence perhaps, the first Bush to really make money was an industrialist from Columbus Ohio. Most of the current family money that the Bush's have can be traced to the Walker family. The grandmother of the 41st President was a Walker and she brought a significant amount of money into the family. One of the most interesting members of the Bush family was Mary Parker, who was hung as a witch during the Salem witch trials. Caroline Kennedy is worth more all alone than George H Bush and all five of his children, including George W Bush and his immediate family; you can also throw in George H Bush's siblings and you still don't come close to wealth of Caroline Kennedy...

Well, I think we can all guess what the secret orders are in regards to, can't we? I do have to wonder why they felt that Granger had to be kept in the dark until he was closer to Rio. I have to wonder if the issue with Maidstone isn't more widespread than we have been lead to believe. Here in Rio we find a cousin of Maidstone's in a position of power, although I suspect he is about to lose it and be sent home. This sort of leads to questions about what the ultimate plan of Sir Tobias Maidstone is all about. What is he trying to set up and how far will Granger have to go to stop it... I so relish Granger's interaction with Somers and the Colonel from Portugal. I can see some adventures of another kind brewing there. I guess it is my issues with Calvert that makes everyone else seem more interesting to me than he is... There must be more to Calvert than I can witness for Mark to keep bringing him back... I still favor a tropical ilness and lingering death but.... These delays because of secret orders are going to give Maidstone time to be in place and maybe put his plan into action before Granger arrives; this will maybe give Granger more evidence of whatever the plan is and help him to decide whatever he ends up deciding to do about Maidstone. Keep up the great work Mark, I eagerly await each sweet visit by Lord Granger...

The new chapter is up and lots of intrigue... I can't wait to see what the secret orders Granger had delievered to him by Somers that came from the Privy Council... Not sure this is going to be good news, but I guess we will have to wait and see... I just love to have all the interaction with Granger and the men on the ship and those that surround him. I can't wait to see what Mark has cooked up for Granger in Rio... It is such a great place now and I am sure was a place of intrigue then...
