  1. Androgyny: Is it attractive to you? Most of the time it isn't. I like Manly Men who do Manly things. That's Pat sort of androgyny doesn't appeal to me at all. The young man who is so pretty he could be a girl, has long hair- I'm too old for them anyway. But... once upon a time, I'd would have hit that.
  2. Have a look at Riley Jericho's work for a look at an English kid growing up in America. It's cute and has some very funny moments.
  3. I grew up in rural Mississippi outside of Jackson and can tell you that I don't have idyllic memories of the time. One of the first times that I heard the word homosexual was in regard to the Candyman killer in Houston during the early seventies. For a while we thought that homosexual meant killer but we were like 7 so fuk it. There was also a neighborhood plumber/pedophile that chased boys of a certain age around the neighborhood. You were screwed (literally) if you didn't know his game. He would pay you if you would do it and pay you if you would give him the name and phone number of another kid who would do it. The old creep finally got caught and had a heart attack. Some of the nostalgia about "better times" is simply selective memory. There has always been a certain number of creepazoids in any given population. You can get lucky and never encounter one or... they could be your uncle, Dad's bestest golf buddy, a church deacon or they might live next door. You just never know. That doesn't mean that you must live like a paranoid shut in. Just pay attention and stay aware and that will keep you out of most trouble. Keep a .45 handy for the rest.
  4. You know that guy that tells you what you want to hear? I ain't him.
  5. Everybody has. That's how we learn that you don't screw the people that you like. You just hope that you end up liking the person that you are screwing.
  6. Makes me wonder where they went.
  7. From time to time I come across a story that hits me particularly hard. Second Variety by Philip K Dick is one of those stories. It's about the war that my generation only fought in our nightmares. Check it out. It's a real scream. Buh-wa-hahahah.
  8. Sorry- I was in Honduras, can't edit.
  9. Michael Moore is a big, fat idiot. He is the left's Rush Limbaugh. Listen to people that actually graduated from college. Moore's lies are lies of omission. Like when he was fired from Mother Jones for holding back well documented articles critical of those murdering bastard Sandinistas that lefties were in love with in the eighties. If he doesn't LIKE it, then it isn't real. Moore, when asked about the incident, lied and claimed that Mother Jones fired him because he wanted to cover GM plant closings in Lansing, MI. I, on the other hand, was in Nicaragua in '85 and got splattered by a friends brains when a Sandy sniper shot him for repairing telephone lines. So- if you like your truth to be what you believe in your own little head not to be interfered with by objective reality, then a lying piece of shit propagandist like Moore is for you. I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.

  11. My theory on a complex plot: I think of a plot like a rope. It is composed of individual fibers or strands woven together to for a single, tight, stronger, coherent whole. Each strand is a discrete story of its own right and adds to and supports the overall plot. Typically there is a primary strand and supporting stands. It is possible to have no primary strand but I've never really seen it. The primary strand typically identifies the protagonist and point of view and grounds the story. There were a number of strands in my novel Twilight (which has since been renamed Childhood's End). Primary- Eagle Rock, primary characters Washington- President, NIGHTWATCH airborne command post CDC- Atlanta Korea- 2nd infantry division US Space Command- Nebraska USS Seawolf- hunter/killer submarine Abe Lincoln Battle Group- attack group closing on Korea Each strand expands the story and its scope by allowing the reader a first hand views of what is going on in each of the supporting strands.
  12. If you don't want to see something ugly, don't go under the spoiler.
  13. Writing is about drama and you find drama on the raw cutting, bleeding edge of humanity. There be dragons... and other things that are difficult to face and difficult for human beings to write about. Murder, rape, incest, child abuse, insane people and insane acts: these are all the raw ore of drama. How a good story teller refines and purifies that ore and handles it makes all the difference. I am curious about what other authors think and feel about these difficult topics. It's only human to shy away from them. Some people are so brain washed that if there's even a little drug use in a story, they'll quit reading. Others have similar biases to different topics. How do you handle the difficult, ugly topics with grace and sensitivity with out making your readers run away screaming?

  18. Why save idiots? They'll only make more.
  19. The freedom to own guns, buy as much booze as you want to, smoke crack, talk on your cell phone while driving all have one thing in common: they are the drain at the bottom of the gene pool. Goodness knows we've got plenty of people from the shallow end. We should encourage them to own guns, drink, smoke crack, talk on their cell phones and text while driving.
