  1. Fellow users of GA: We need to know a few things about how you connect to the site and what kind of software you are using. None of the questions violate your privacy. Answers are completely anonymous. Please let us know because the answers will tell us how to build a site that won't give you any technical headaches. Happy Happy, Joy Joy, JS
  2. I would hire you in a second... but as a fan, I'm biased. Best of luck LB. I hope all goes well. JS
  3. Most writing coaches will tell you to take it easy when it comes to dialects. A little bit goes a very long way. The same goes for non-English words or phrases. Regional dialects are often unfamiliar to readers outside the region. If I wrote in New Orleans Creole, no one would understand me.
  4. jsmith: She (think of a name) hugged the tree as she looked down at the ground far below. How did she get in the tree? Why is she there? What happens next? _________________________________________________________ Marta hugged the tree as she looked down at the ground far below. Her Siamese cat Smarty studied her plight with interest as he lounged like a lion, with his paws and tail hanging lazily from a branch just out of her reach. Now what is that silly girl up to this time? Smarty liked his spot in the ancient Oak. It was far out of reach of nosy, noisy or mean children. It was quiet and the birds and squirrels kept their distance. It also gave him a perfect view of the entire yard without being seen. He could keep see any intruders who might wander into his territory and then he could appear unexpectedly at a moments notice. Oh well. I suppose it's time to teach her how to get down now. he thought. Smarty stood, yawned and stretched. He looked at the path down from the old Oak. Silly Girl was inconsiderately blocking his usual route down which never took more than seven leaps. He crouched and leaped like an arrow, did a touch-and-go off the top of Silly Girl's head, and was on the ground in his usual seven leaps. Smarty strolled up to the patio and looked up in the tree. Silly Girl was still up the tree yelling damned cat! I'm going to choke you! whatever that meant. He had showed her the way down. What else did she want? It's a good thing that humans are able to open cans or they would be completely useless he grumped as he sat on the patio waiting for dinner.
  5. Who won?
  6. Glad you, your PC and kats are all home safe & sound David! Sounds like one of your kitties had an adventure.
  7. Until that happens I'm just in limbo. Limbo is no fun. Uncertianty over something big like a career move can sit on your shoulder like a mischevious imp whispering worries, doubts and fears in your ear. Focus on something else to silence the doubts. Something physical- like walking, biking or maybe join a gym. I've been there myself Kev. Don't let it linger.
  8. If you haven't read EleCivil's stories- drop what you are doing and go read Leaves & Lunatics and Laika- right now mister!!! At a mere 20, EleCivil is definitly one of the communities most promising young authors. Happy Birthday EleCivil!
  9. It's hard to go wrong with the authors that you listed. They are all very good but I've been here for over a year and still haven't read half of what we have herel. It is difficult to point at any one author or story and say that's my favorite. They come in all genres, moods, blends and flavors. For a newcomer to GA, I suggest Comicality's My Only Escape and Dom's The Log Way. They are classics that deserve special mention. As far as promising newcomers go- Check out Little Buddha or Vance Lister. The fun part is that there are dozens of authors and stories to explore. Just pick one and dive in!

    Oh me too!

Vance- That's a big friendly looking cat. He looks like a cat named Leo that comes by my house and says hello every now and then. I never eat salt- not with all the other neat spices! Discover lemon-pepper and you'll never miss it.
  12. Welcome! I can't wait to see your work!

  14. Look out cute-cross-county-boy!
  15. Congrats David! Edumacation is very important. Let me be the first to say welcome back to the states.
  16. Haven't you been emancipated yet?! Hopefully next year you can say free at last, free at last!
  17. I suppose you could show up wearing nothing but speedos and a feather boa. Disclaimer: this method is not recommended for everyone. For instance- if while laying on the beach, people pour water on you and try to roll you back out to sea, this method is not for you.
  18. RedLight- I want to urge you to be cautious about this unless you are sure about your mothers attitudes. Discovering that one of your kids is gay can be very shocking to a parent. You don't want to aggravate the situation-- epically if she has no idea. For every GOOD coming out stories that you've heard, there are some that are just plain horrible. It is something that you can only do once and if you frak-up, the damage is done. JS PS- keep in mind that I am very fond of the young people on this site and will always counsel caution in matters that could hurt you.

    no leap frogging

I'm old enough to remember when a butthead wasn't a cartoon character. This guy obviously hasn't met the right homosexual yet. He's going to let slip that unnatural crap and someone is either going to kick his ass very loudly or screw him over very quietly. Either way, the response is perfectly natural.
  20. Have a safe trip LilBuddha and welcome home! I hope the US treats you well.
  21. I took the survey. Only 7 projects? Bah- I do 7 projects before 3am!
  22. Some authors handle sex batter than others. With good authors like Dom or Comsie, sex is merely part of the plot. With less experienced authors, it can become a distraction. Gay fiction has evolved quite a lot over the years. Years ago the only gay fiction that you could find were pulp paperbacks that were really just literary porn. When gay fiction made it to the net during the ninties, quite a lot of it was still what a good friend of mine calls a "one handed story". There's loads of stuff like that on Nifty. Around 2000 a cadre of net authors arose that elevated the genra. The Eggman, Cosmie, Dewey, Driver and others began writing gay fiction that was more about the story than sex.
  23. I just got back from 18 hours ( 9 one way) trip driving two 80 year olds to see thier grandchildren. The grandbabies are apparently scared of old people. The kids cried, the adults bitched and I wanted to be deaf so bad that I listened to death metal at full volume until my cd player melted.
  24. good drawers Well, my favorite are a pair of flame-red boxers.
