How I Live Now - 6. Day 6.
So, good news and bad news. First, the bad news… I got robbed. Well, is it theoretically robbery if you left something out on display, fell asleep, and when you woke up, it was missing? I drifted off listing to music on my android, and when I woke up, all I was left with happened to be the earbuds that were disconnected from the headphone jack. I told the woman at the front desk about it, and she even said she'd call the police to report it. Though I opted not to follow through, possibly that scenario would raise too much undue attention, which is the last thing I need right now. Filling out reports would leave a paper trail for my dad to find me.
The hot guy I talked to yesterday checked out earlier this morning, an entire day short of what he said he intended to stay. I am starting to think that maybe he took it. Gosh… I was so blinded by his sweet charm; he looked cute and innocent. I'm not sure what I am supposed to do now, though I don't have enough money to buy a new cell, maybe one of those cheap ones, but that would really deplete my funds. Either way, I am without a cellphone; plus, it's rather scary without one. Everybody I know was taken away with the cellphone, and I never bothered to memorize any phone numbers as the cell did it for me. This is sooo shit; I'm angrier at myself for being duped by the guy and being so careless with my possessions.
Now the good news, I heard back from another company who is interested in hiring me. Long story short, I stopped by the library, as I didn't have my android… but I needed access to my email address. And, it's free WIFI, what more can I say? Okay, the job is at this big box store Woodies; it's kind of like Walmart, but smaller. I've decided to take the job, and since the other one in the countryside is a long way away, and I need the money. Well, now I do with what happened overnight. It's funny how something uplifting can happen at the same time as something really shitty.
I've been contemplating if buying a tent and using a campsite is cheaper than a hostel, but then I'd need to buy all the camping equipment. Though, then I guess you could say I really am homeless if I resort to sleeping outside. I don't feel comfortable about having to sleep out-of-doors with what happened to me at the hostel. I don't want to be stolen from again or mugged in the street. I've been watching every dollar I spend, and it seems of late there is not enough to go around. I'm getting a little worried.
Now look, I'm trying to be optimistic, but it's difficult when there's not much hope to see. Maybe my idea wasn't the best, and its implementation has crashed even harder now that reality has crept in. I can't be sure, but it all seemed like a holiday at the start, but now I'm beginning to realize that I'll need to get smarter to last out here long term. I'm not going back home, no matter how difficult things get, but I need some backup plans. Pronto. It's hard to save money when you don't know any safe place. I could set up a bank account, but would that draw attention?
I also need to find a place to wash my clothes because things are getting ripe in my bag. I never really thought about washing laundry, as mom always did it for me. How much does it cost to use a launderette?
Oh, I think I made a grown-up decision today. You know the way public transport is expensive? It's frickin like $50 a week just to take the metro, and shit every day. I've been hiring these rental bikes in the city called Go-Go-Bike. I think it's primarily for tourists, but with an average cost of $2-3 a day, I'm saving the odd buck or two. Hmm… It sounded more impressive in my head. It looks lame AF on paper, so… way to be a bummer. Oh... and my legs are not forgiving me after the intense workout I gave them from the bike ride this morning.
From tomorrow I'm going to go exploring to find the best commute home when I start working. I'll be going in on Monday, and they'll see if I am the right candidate for the job. I'm not sure if stacking shelves is an inherent skill, but that is the way they made me feel. I was under the impression that I needed a Doctoral Degree in Animal Husbandry to do stock checks and put tins of beans out for people to buy. Yeah… I know… I've spent too much time in museums. I can't decide which is lamer, knowing what Animal Husbandry is, or saving $1 on a train ride over a bicycle.
Right, better start getting washed up for the evening. Plus, I'm thinking of moving again. I don't like this place, it's too crowded and noisy. The people scare me, and to top it off, I got robbed. It would be neat to stay in one place without watching over my back or not having to move all the time.
Talk soon,
Kyle.
