Seasoned to Taste - 1. Classics

Spring into an adventure--a blind date.

Find me and my two lavender roses.

But then TWO sees bright yellow daffodils

and a pair of warm brown eyes. ONE!

The roses are easily forgotten.

Rhubarb upside-down cake with cream to share,

coffee with milk and green tea with lemon;

two different cups and a common denominator--

it begins.

Summer

The two-some nibble early strawberries--

a tiny balcony is their island,

where dahlias in blue flower boxes

bop crimson heads to a lilting soft breeze.

An older lady presents proudly her

new pink hairdo to a smiling waiter;

it's finally summer--time to be brave

and embrace a new idea of love.

A gaggle of small kindergarteners

head to the water playground with their coach,

a wriggling rainbow bounces happily

between old park trees that yearn for the rain.

First, damp air clogs anxious alveoli,

then sharp heat singes everything alive,

and dried-out soil can't absorb sudden rain--

the floods wash away all. The planet aches.

Fall

Today she will be introduced to George,

black shoes crush fallen leaves, red, gold, and brown;

at the entrance of the cemetery,

a newly-hatched imago waits for her.

A baseball bat, blemished by dark red spots,

has always been his striking argument,

November rain deletes the pupae's past.

To new beginnings.

Winter

The two-some share a blanket nowadays,

their balcony is still their quiet place,

big stars adorn the flower boxes now

and Christmas lights glow happily by night.

An older lady presents proudly her

new green hairdo to a smiling woman;

it's finally winter--time to embrace

and announce her new love to the whole world.

Thank you for reading my poems. There's more to come a.k.a. Chapter 2.

I enjoyed the kaleidoscope of images in these four poems. The gaggle of kindergartners will remain with me for quite a while. Thank you!

A kaleidoscope yes, or a mosaic and the glue were the seasons.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my stories within stories, Parker.

There was such a parade here, Adi, from crimson dahlias bopping heads, to a planet aching, to pink hair, to a blemished baseball bat and a cemetery. I felt joy, darkness, renewal, and love... and braveness in your seasons. I read this four times, getting more each time. Well done, my friend. Your wonderful way with words shines through as always. Cheers!
