My Twentieth Year - 9. a voice from the closet

Poem No. 22

I look for beauty

but can find only the beast.

As children we are told to avoid it –

only purity for purities sought –

unforbidden duty

but the wrong offers such a feast

that only children can avoid it

and I am not a child with a child's thought.

coming out

Poem No. 23

Sweet embrace of a horrid thought

a simple one, one of immense truth –

its presence revolts me

The thought is entirely there

though magnified by the night so still –

the thought of who I am.[1]

Poem No. 24

You know of course I meant to go

before she went

but then she went before I got the chance to go

so now I'm going after she went

oh no.

I'm so glad you found your way out of the closet. I loved the first poem especially, no you are no longer a child and it's time to leave those thoughts behind and accept yourself.

A horrid thought? Never that.

Thanks for your support, Tim. It means the world to me.

'Beautiful' is a wonderful compliment

...but the wrong offers such a feast... this image is the one I find most compelling. It conjures up images of temptation worthy of a renaissance painter. Take the temptation and feast...for you are not a child anymore. You can decide...perfectly wonderful.

Thank you, Parker. This is a wonderful review, and I love that my words may have conjured images of Caravaggio for you ;)
