Der Abend

für Golo Gangi [alias Erwin Loewenson]

4.

Uns/ aus den Händen/ fielen die Kameën,

Die unser Finger umspielend liebkoste;

Fielen die Perlen deren sanftes Sehen

Unsere Trauer verschonte.

Hin/ ist der Tag. Andere mag freuen

Der tiefe Abend, gleitender Sterne Trösten;

Wir müssen sterbende Launen bereuen.

Pinienflügel weißer Wolken zerwehn. [i]

The Evening Light

for Golo Gangi [aka Erwin Loewenson]

4.

We/ from our hands/ watched as the cameoes lay

Slipped from our fingertips used to their caress;

Fallen are the pearls whose tempered sight just may

Have spared us from our own distress.

Past/ is the day. Others cheer when it concludes

With deep evening as gliding stars come to play;

On the other hand we repent dying moods.

Pine-wood wings blowing clouds away.
