Going to the Movies--NaPoWriMo 2017 - 5. Day 21 - Day 25
#21
Inspired by the forgetting prompt and every bad movie I’ve ever seen.
Come on; let’s forget
we ever saw that
never talk about it.
Man that was shit.
A plot in four words:
boom, bang, bees and birds,
actors stiff as wood
were up to no good.
CGI a joke,
just a screen of smoke
music tinny as hell
camera work ‘pastel’.
The language was crass
five Oscars my ass
next time I’ll stay home
and read a thick tome.
#22
Inspired by the believe prompt and every movie I’ve ever loved and will love in the future.
A good movie has:
a plot: anything really; engaging would be good;
has me on the edge of my seat, even better;
but above all, a story I can believe in.
characters: polarizing, lovable, infuriating, thrilling,
mesmerizing, despicable, hateful, beautiful, tragic;
everything humanity can muster.
CGI: angels fly, house elves talk, a spaceship explodes,
visiting foreign worlds, blue aliens, living in others’ dreams;
whatever you can imagine becomes true—for two and a half hours.
music: to round out a battle; and two people making love;
cautions me, makes my heart beat faster, drives me to tears;
hearing the first notes, I remember the whole movie.
you: always at my side, grab my hand with baited breath;
laugh with me, cry with me, always has tissues, a kiss, and popcorn;
waiting until the credits are finished, just in case...
#23
Questions before Dark, this prompt gave me trouble. There are many dark films, for me war movies are often the darkest, so I chose the Russian Roulette scene from ‘Deer Hunter’.
Will I die?
When he dies,
a bullet flies
one out of six
and he kicks
the bucket.
Will he die?
When I die,
reach for the sky,
abandon him.
The chance is slim
I take it.
#24
Inspired by the Simic-prompt.
For imaginary visitors, I had a chair
Made of cane I found in the trash.
(Charles Simic in “Self-Portrait in Bed” in My Noiseless Entourage)
And when I’m lonely...
I invite Darth Vader, Hugh Glass and Daryl Dixon
to play musical chairs with me.
I sit opposite from Snape
while he tells me the story from his point of view.
I help Monte Wildhorn into my chair
and together we’ll yell at life.
I’ll ask Captain Kirk
how he feels about being replaced by himself.
Gandalf could do some fireworks for me.
Maybe John Keating will recite a poem?
Maybe I can read one of mine to him.
I do not dare.
#25
Inspired by the anthology prompt: Pick a title and write a poem.
To Send Away Melancholy
I watch ‘Big Bang Theory’ with you.
Your mood so infectious,
your bright eyes
that say HILARIOUS.
Laugh with me!
And I do.
