I’ll Have a Double Bar Mitzvah To Go 12. New York Holidays

   (1 review)
A typical New York City food cart

What do Bar Mitzvahs and food carts have in common? Nothing… unless you’re talking about a precocious young teen with a Jewish boyfriend and a best friend who's half black Cajun and half Asian, and who’s a gifted teenage chef. With a double Bar Mitzvah on the Fourth of July weekend, why not make it a pool party? Oy Vey!

A number of the characters my New York Stories are Jewish. Double Bar Mitzvah brings closure to Francis (Freck) San Angelo’s discovery of his Jewish roots. That was, of course, before the events of October 7, 2023. Many of us are strong advocates for a peaceful solution and Palestinian statehood, yet nothing can justify the barbarism of Hamas’ attack on Israeli civilians. Countering Hamas should never be allowed to deteriorate into mindless vengeance.
Anti-Israeli sentiment around the world has led to a dramatic increase in antisemitism. The characters in my stories would not be immune, particularly those in college. Once events are further behind us, I will write a New York story that tackles the horror from multiple angles. Meanwhile, what follows is a tale from a more innocent time.
