Subversive - A Collection of Poetry - 4. Bundles of Isolation

Bundles of Isolation

Loneliness
In her big ribbons of blue
Begins to bind up all the laughter
Of old city's nostalgic heart
Furious beats that begin as strings
One after another are plucked and torn
Begins thus to bind us up
In bundles of revered joys
Silenced and snared
Cut into pieces
Wrapped in plastic
Synthetic toys
Of elegance
Of virtual lovers
And synthetic halogen lights

Chapter Comments

Loneliness is personified with images that cut to the heart of modern existence. Bundling real joys into plastic wrapped packages to be synthesized...I shudder. Well done.

The title married with the images of the poem is intriguing.... Reminds me of the classical symbol of an axe bound within many sticks; where one handle is weak and ineffectual, bundled together the strength becomes almost unbreakable.

Thanks for posting
