Cailen's Poem Archive - 17. A New Day
Fallen leaves of orange and gold
Rustling round my feet
I wander down this path of old
It’s you I’ve come to meet
The river in the distance trickles
Its waters cold and black
The dust and mold in the air it tickles
My senses out of whack
I rub my eyes against the light
Peeking through the trees
The setting sun, the leaves glow bright
On the ground in flowing seas
I feel you squeeze my hand awhile
A grin upon your face
I’m blinded more by your sweet smile
Than the beauty of this place
You take me onward a path we clear
Where we go we cannot see
I brave the darkness without fear
Because you’re here with me
The fallen leaves, orange and gold
Rustling around our feet
They may fall and die as they grow old
But in our memory we keep
The sun sets, but still we go
You reassure me as you say
‘We cannot fear the darkness so,
For it brings us a new day!’
