Poems, Old and New - 13. Words hurt, so think

They said names can't hurt you.

They said words cannot maim.

They said turn the other cheek.

They said words cause no pain.

Who are they to tell us all this?

Have they been there? Have they done that?

Have they been and got the T-shirt?

Have they ever been called ugly, or fat?

Words cut deeper than knives.

Words will make you feel weak.

Words can't be healed so easy.

So, think before you speak!

Thank you both for your comments. This poem is something I've been working on for a while and a recent event brought the feelings right back to the surface again.

 s to you both

Yes words hurt! They mold who we become. Words leave permanent scars. When negative they break a persons confidence and spirit. Beautifully said honey! xo
