Please understand that I am not an American Indian, nor am I a horse person, a leather worker, or a teenager. Everything I write about is from my imagination, with a lot of help from brief internet research. That said, I hope I don't offend anyone with my limited knowledge of the traditions and beliefs of American Indians. Even using that term might offend some. According to my searches, American Indian is now the preferred name for what were called Native Americans, Indians, and many more offensive names. My intent in talking about Dakota's heritage is not to mock, disrespect, or appropriate. My intent is to attempt to honor his ancestors as he does.
