My Life Started at the End of the World - 13. Chapter 13 - Terror - Stronger(What Doesn't Kill You)
Aidyn's POV
Okay... how am I gonna do this? No seriously how the living hell am I going to do this? I have to tell my parent's I'm gay, I'm not into girls, I'm solely into boys and nothing will change that.
The best thing I could think of was, I had to tell Chance I am gay. If he accepts it, what will my parents say. He's the most likely to hate me for life out of everyone I know.
Step one: Call him over. Also Bryce, cause I can't do it without him. Bryce was first on my list to call.
He answered really quickly, “Hey, what's up man?”
I took a big swallow, “Noah wants me to come out to my parents... I want to come out to Chance first though.”
“Are your serious about that? Do you not remember how long it took him to warm up to Noah?”
“I know, I know. That's why though, I need to the courage to tell my parents, and telling him will give it to me, I hope.”
I heard a sigh on the other side of the line, “If you want to I'm not gonna stop you. I'll be over as soon as I can. Should be only a few minutes.” Bryce hung up the phone and I dialled Chance's number.
Chance answered rather slowly. It took like 4 rings, “Hello??” He sounded like he was just waking up.
“Hey Chance, it's Aidyn. Just waking up?”
“Ya... I was up late last night. What's up man?” He sounded like he stretched and dropped his phone, “Sorry dropped my phone.”
“You wanna come over once you're up?”
“Sure, just give me a bit. I should probably shower... I'll be over in like an hour or so.” Click. Chance just hung up without saying goodbye. He does that allot when he's tired, never notices though.
How the hell am I going to do this? I have Bryce, he will give me the courage I need. Right? Why is it so scarey coming out of the closet? Gaaah! This is hard and I haven't even done anything major yet!
My mind was racing and before I knew it Bryce came into my room, “How's it holding up?”
“Horrible! I don't think I can do this, Bryce.”
He put his hands on my shoulders, “Take a deep breath and calm down.” I did as instructed, “Good cause he was literally pulling up as I got inside.”
And there he was, Chance walking into my room. “I skipped the shower, you sounded like it was important so I just came over, what's up?”
I stared at him, scared, “I wanted to tell you something... Something Bryce already knows...” Bryce nodded and Chance continued to look at me. “I'm... Chance I'm gay!” I shot out! Rip the band aid off, just rip it.
There was a moment of silence, then Chance spoke, “That's it? I kinda figured for a while now.” Wait what? I gave him this look of bewilderment. “I've known you for a few years dude. My cousin is gay and he told me some of the signs to look for. You fit the bill. The reason I react like that around gays is simple, I don't understand how they like that stuff.”
“So you don't hate me?”
“I could never hate you Aidyn. The reason I was so hesitant for Noah to join us was I was worried he would out you to everyone. When I saw you guys hanging out though, it was clear that you two were a thing, so I started to become okay with it. I'm not against gays, just don't agree with their tastes.”
Bryce laughed, “Wow had us fooled! I honestly thought you were homophobic. Well glad that's cleared up, now we can start phase two!”
Chance raise an eye brow, “Phase two?”
I sighed, “Telling my parents.”
Skylar's POV
“Okay Greyson, lets do it!” It's the weekend, and Greyson is over. It's always fun when he's over, even if I can't play video games with him. We just watch tv and laugh together. He always ask what people look like, then he tells me how he originally imagined them. Sometimes he's even right.
Today he's over for one reason, for me to tell my parents that I like him. Well... to tell my mom. To be honest I'm scared of my dad finding out. I don't know what he'll do... so I'm going to tell my mom with Greyson's help!
Greyson smiled, “Okay!” It was 6pm, and dad had a night shift at the station tonight. Perfect time to tell my mom!
So Greyson, Sam and I made our way upstairs and to the kitchen. Dinner was almost done and smelled great! “Hey mom...”
“Yes dear?”
Greyson cut in, “Your food smell amazing! What's for dinner?”
Mom looked over at us, “Thank you Greyson, it's my famous Chicken and broccoli casserole. It looks less appealing than it tastes.”
“Looks don't bother me really.” We all had a laugh at that. “It certainly smells good though.”
Mom's smile grew even larger, “Again thank you Greyson. You wanted something Sky?” I nodded, “What is it?”
I remained silent and looked over at Greyson. He was looking over at me, I could even tell what he was thinking. He was concerned, just like I was, for my mom's reaction.
Greyson whispered to me, “Just say it, shoot the bullet!”
Biting my lip I spoke, “See... me and Greyson. I mean, Greyson and I we've been, well.” Mom looked like she was growing impatient. “I think like Greyson.”
“Aww that sweet dear. Now you two better go wash up, dinner is almost ready.”
Mom went to return to the stove. “No mom you don't get it.” She stopped and turned around, “I didn't say I 'like' him, I said I LIKE like him.”
“Oh... well then.” She seamed shocked. “One moment Sky, I really need to get the casserole out of the oven.” Wait so that was it? Just I'll talk to you in a sec, let me get this casserole... cool?
Greyson nudged me, “See that was easy, wasn't it?”
I blushed, “I had butterflies floating around inside my tummy the entire time.”
His face turned to his thinking face, “I wonder how long butterflies could survive in a human stomach...” I just pushed him and we laughed.
We sat down in the living room waiting for my mom to be done. It was only a few minutes when she walked over at sat down across from us. I didn't, no, couldn't make eye contact.
Mom spoke, “So, how long have you know about these possible feelings?”
“Only for like a week, Greyson wanted to try kissing and we did... It felt weird and since then I think of him... differently.”
Mom looked like she was in deep thought, “So that's all you have done?”
“MOM!!” I yelled out. I mean what kind of question is that?
She smiled, “Sorry, I just wanted to make sure. Sky, Greyson I want you both to know that your feelings are allowed in this house and will not be frowned upon. Before you take bigger steps though I want you to talk with someone, maybe not me, but someone.”
We both nodded. “When I sleep over will I still be allowed to sleep in the same room as Sky?” Greyson asked.
Mom pondered for a moment, “I would like to say no, but under these conditions I'm going to say yes. Greyson isn't familiar with the upstairs. I don't want to put more into that memory of yours, where it should have something else in it's place.”
“Thank you Mrs. Scott!” I'm sure Greyson's head could handle it. He is incredibly smart! I bet he's just saying thanks for allowing us to stay in the same room together. “Is there anything else you wanted to say Sky?”
“No, I don't think so... Oh! Don't tell dad please, I wanna be the one to tell him. When I'm ready, of course.” Mom nodded and went back to the kitchen after messing up my hair. “Well... dinner is almost done so we should probably get washed up. Lets go!”
Aidyn's POV
It was dinner time, like, in 2 minutes. Chance and Bryce had left about half an hour ago, giving me the last bit of encouraging words. Oh god how am I going to do this?
Dad just walked in, “Hey Aidyn, how was your day?”
“Stressful...”
He put his hand on my shoulder, “Tell me about it at dinner, okay? I'll tell you about my day too.” We both smiled, I knew his day was as stressful as mine, if not more. He is a police officer after all.
Just like that it was dinner time. The worst of it all, Greyson was over. I swear, him and Sky are boyfriends, the way they act around each other. So now I have 4 people listening to my coming out, awesome...
Plates were handed out and dinner was taken to each of our plates. Sky got Greyson his food for him. It was just as everyone started to eat I cleared my throat. “I need to tell you guys something...”
“Guys?” Mom asked.
I rolled my eyes, “'Family I need to tell you something.' better?”
“I'm here you know.” Greyson smiled. He did that on purpose. “I'm just kidding go on.”
I sighed, “I really don't know how to say this...” Everyone had their eyes on me. It's intimidating, especially when your dad is still in uniform. “I... I, me and Noah... Noah and I are boy...” I couldn't do it. My voice dropped to inaudible once I said 'boy'. How am suppose to do this?
Mom spoke, “You need to speak up Aidyn, we didn't hear you, honey.”
I looked at Sky across the table. He was biting his lip, only slightly. Only I could tell, maybe mom, that he was nervous for me. Or something along those lines.
I bit my lip as well and spoke again, “I'm in love with Noah!” Bluntly leaving my lips as I close my eyes. I didn't want to see their reactions.
No one said anything. It was quiet at our dinner table, first time in years. I opened one eye ever so slightly to see Greyson taking a bite of his food kinda looking at me. Mom had set her fork down and was staring her loving stare. Dad... dad had an eyebrow raised.
“And does Noah know this?” Was all dad asked.
I nodded. Sky spoke, “So when you said 'boy' super quietly it should have been boyfriend?” I nodded again.
“How long have you known you've been into boys?” Mom asked.
Dad cut me off though, “Are you gay or bisexual?” Mom shot him a death glare. “What? It's a legit question.”
“14 for sure... but I have memories from as low as 10 that feel like I had a crush on a kid. I'm gay... I don't find girls sexually attractive at all.”
Again there was silence at the table. Mom broke it, “What have you boys done?”
“MOM!!” I shouted back at her. “Like hell I am going to share that!”
“So you admit to have gotten intimate with Noah?” Dad asked. I could barely nod my head. I hung my head in shame, I feel like I've brought shame to my family, or some shit. “This is what you've been stressing about all day?”
“Ya, I wanted to tell you guys...”
“Beats my dad, I just stopped an armed robbery and was in a high speed car chase.” Dad smiled and went back to eating. How is my day more stressful than that?
Well at least dad destroyed the tension at the table. Dinner carried on normally, talking about everyone's day nonstop. I guess you could say my coming out was a success... I can't help but feel something isn't right though.
