My Life Started at the End of the World - 7. Chapter 7 - That's a Thing - Rolling In the Deep
Noah's POV
It was just another regular day in my life. Playing games and chatting via text with Aidyn. That is until I was home alone.
My aunt and uncle don't like me going through my family's stuff. I've seen the full will and I would get access to all of it in time, but I'm impatient. So when I'm home alone I go through it all.
I was rummaging through Ryan's stuff just thinking about my brother. I started to think about Aidyn and Skylar's relationship. Aidyn is so much like my older brother. He gets annoyed by his little brother and does his own thing. Before that though we were great.
Everything brought me back to Ryan's room. It was definitely a boy's room. You could rarely see the floor, and if you could it was usually only a little bit. His clothes were everywhere all the time. His walls had posters of some video game characters and some girls. It was my second favourite room in the house, next to my room.
So as I took out and looked at the posters, underneath all of them was a book. I picked it up and saw it had a lock on it. I couldn't open it much. Looking at what I could I saw dates at the bottom right corner of the page. I continued through pages and found the day before he passes away. I lifted the page once more and there was the date he died.
I quickly lifted the edge of the page again to find nothing. I was only halfway through the book so I continued through for a few pages. Nothing, there was no dates on any page. Had I found Ryan's journal? Looking at the front and back but there was no writing or anything.
I sent Aidyn a text: I think I found my brother's Journal.
Aidyn: You have a brother?
Me: He passed away a few years ago...
Aidyn: Oh, sorry... How can you tell if it's a journal?
Me: Dates on the corner of the pages. It's locked and I don't have a key.
Aidyn: Makes sense to me, I think you're right.
Me: The last date is the day he passed away...
Aidyn: Do you want me to come over?
Me: Sure
Aidyn: Be over shortly
I put everything back in their boxes and brought the book to my room. I put it in my sock/underwear drawer underneath everything. No one should find it there, even in the cliche of the spot. As I came out of the room the door bell went off.
I ran to the door and found Aidyn waiting for me. “How are you doing?” He asked as I let him in.
“Little shaken up, but fine.”
He gave me a hug, “May I ask about your brother?” I nodded.
I brought him to my game room and told him about my family. When ever I tell someone after I get a little sad and don't want to talk. This time was no exception. After I was done I snuggled up and we just watched TV.
After about an hour and a half I spoke, “I have the journal in my sock drawer.”
He smiled, “So cliche.” I smacked him.
“I wanna find the key and read it.”
He hugged me tight, “You'll find stuff you don't want to see.”
“I know... but I want to know why.” We continued to snuggle for a while. We were in silence the entire time but it was a good silence. The kind where you sit there, smile and watch TV. The good silence.
Skylar's POV
Just another day in the life of Skylar Scott. Getting home from Booker's to play with Sam. He's so awesome! He nips a bit but he's still a puppy. I just get mad at him and we continue playing.
Mom and dad are out so Aidyn is home alone. By that Sam should be up in Aidyn's room. I got home and went straight upstairs. I don't know what I was thinking but I went to open the door and there was Aidyn laying on his bed. Hand holding his... yes that.
I quickly closed the door but he saw me, “I'm sorry! I'm sorry!” I stumbled over myself and fell on my ass. Aidyn opened his door wearing a pair of shorts. “I'm sorry I didn't mean to, I don't know what I was thinking.”
“You never know what you're thinking! Seriously, what the hell!?” As I scattered back he continued forward. You could tell from his face he was angry.
“I'm sorry! I'm sorry!” I kept saying it over and over. I was backed against the wall.
“Why'd you even come into my room?”
I whispered, “I was looking for Sam.” Just then Sam came out of Aidyn's room and came up beside me. He jumped about and barked at me.
“Well, you have him so fuck off!” He stormed back in his room and slammed the door. I heard him collapse onto his bed and go, “Gaaaah!”
Tears started flowing down my cheeks. Sam sat down and licked my arm. I picked him up and went down to my room. I was there for a little bit snuggling Sam.
“Sambo why does he hate me?” I asked someone who couldn't answer. He just stared at me and barked. “Thanks, I guess.”
There was a knock on the door suddenly. Aidyn appeared in my door way. “I would like to apologize for my reaction. It was uncalled for and I'm sorry I scared you.”
I said nothing. He stood there looking at me. “It's fine... I walked in on 'that'.”
He shook his head, “No, it's not 'fine' Sky. I was a complete asshole. I don't have any plans tomorrow, you wanna go mini-golfing? I'll pay for everything, just you and me.”
I sat up so fast Sam almost fell off the bed, “Yes yes yes yes yes!” Aidyn smiled, “Can we do things more often like before?”
“Ya, just don't walk into my room like that again, deal?” I shook my head, “Wanna go outside and play with Sam?” I got up and practically ran to the outside door. Sam and Aidyn right behind me.
We spent almost an hour outside. It was a awesome to play with Sam and Aidyn. I can't wait for other days like this! You know, minus my walking in on my brother.
Aidyn's POV
After I freaked out on Sky I felt so bad. Hearing Noah's point of view on him and his brother's relationship made me think about Sky. I stopped hanging out with him, for no reason.
I felt obligated to do something for him. So I cancelled my plans with Noah to go mini-golfing with Sky. I want to do more things to get our relationship to where it was before, when we were little.
I won't promise him I won't get mad at him. I have a little bit of an anger issue with certain people. Sky is sadly one of them. He's my little brother though, so for him, and Noah, I will do my best.
