My Life Started at the End of the World - 19. Chapter 19 - Aidyn's Fall - Harder We Fall
Aidyn's POV
Noah left me in the nurse's office alone. Did he break up with me? What just happened? I sat there frozen from the events that had just unfolded. I shot up and looked out into the halls. Noah was nowhere to be found. I wouldn't even know where to start looking.
I tried texting him. Noah, please come back.
There was no response.
I did my best to keep myself together. I returned to the nurse’s bed and sat down. I bit my lip so hard it started to bleed. The blanket, I was sitting on, I held on so tight that I could have ripped it. My arms were shaking so bad I could hardly stand it.
My mom walked into the room and after one look asked, “Aidyn, what's wrong?” And that's when the dam I was trying to hold back broke. Tears flowed down my cheeks. Mom came over and pulled me close. “Oh Aidyn.”
The class bell went, but I remained in the nurse's office. Mom called my class telling my teacher I would be missing the lesson today. By the end of the conversation, I had calmed down a bit.
“Do you want to go home, Aidyn?” I nodded. “Okay, I'll see what I can do. I'll be back in a few minutes.” Mom walked out, more than likely towards the office.
Moments later there she returned, “So what's the verdict?”
“We are going to go home as soon as Skylar gets here. I don't want to leave him stranded here.”
“I'm sure Greyson's parents would give him a ride home.” To be honest, I didn't want him to see me like this. I had this feeling he'd just piss me off.
Mom did a half smile, “I know you don't want him to see you, but I can't just drop that on Mister or Mrs. Payne. Skylar is coming home with us.” And that was the end of that argument.
Skylar arrived all prepared to go home. We left immediately. Sky kept looking at me with a questioning look on his face. I ignored him the best I could. The car ride was very silent; no one said a single word.
The moment we got home I made my way upstairs to my room. I slammed the door behind me and threw myself on my bed. I took out my phone; there was a message from Chance.
Chance: Why aren't you in class?
Me: Long Story
Chance: I'm in Socials, I can listen.
Me: Noah and I talked, and it turned into him breaking up with me okay! I don't want to talk about it.
Chance: Just let me know if I can do anything.
Me: Don't say a thing about this to Noah. Act like it never happened.
Chance: Yes sir!
Me: Fuck off
Chance: It was a joke, man
By that point, I had had enough of Chance. I really didn't want to deal with anyone right now. I put my iPod into its dock and started blasting my music. I didn't want to hear anything. I wanted to be in my own world of hurt.
I just laid there lying in my own misery. How could I be so dumb? If I just gave him a day right off the bat, this would have been avoided. “I'm such an IDIOT!” I screamed out. No one would have heard me though; my music was too loud.
After a bit more of lying down my door opened, Sky was shyly looking into the room at me. I paused my music.“What do you want?” Even I could hear the attitude in my voice.
“Mom sent me up to ask you if you wanted anything.”
“I'm fine, just leave me alone.” I turned to lay on my side away from him, resuming listening to my music. Sky didn't leave though. You know how you can just feel like they haven't left your room. It was that feeling. So I turned around and paused my music again, “What do you want Skylar?”
He flinched a bit. I may have shot my question like a dagger at him. Sky looked like he wasn't sure if he wanted to say it anymore. “I was wondering... if you maybe wanted, I don't know, play a board game or something. It might help the mood you're in.”
“It won't help Sky. Just leave me alone, okay?”
“We could play a video game instead. Super Smash Bros. Brawl?” You could tell Sky was trying to help me. I didn't want any of it though, so I ignored him. “Borderlands or Resident Evil maybe?”
I looked over at him, “Skylar I said I wanted you to leave me alone. So FUCK OFF and leave me alone” I said it just loud enough to get my point across but not for mom to hear me.
His eyes grew watery instantly. “I'm sorry for trying to help out your mood, you ass!” Sky swiftly walked downstairs.
Moment’s later mom called upstairs, “Aidyn, downstairs now!” I rolled my eyes and did as ordered. Sky was nowhere to be seen; he must have gone downstairs. “What did you say to your brother?” Mom has that look of 'you're not leaving until you answer me'.
“He asked me if I wanted to play some games and I said no. He persisted, and I told him to go away kind of harshly.”
Mom's bullshit detector went off. “The exact wording, please.”
“Mom, I'm having a bad day okay. Can I please just go back up...”
She cut me off, “Aidyn, I know exactly what you are feeling. My high school sweetheart broke up with me two weeks before graduation. That is still no excuse for making your brother cry. Now what did you say SPECIFICALLY.”
I let out a breath. “I told him to F-off.”
“Aidyn Scott!”
“Look I didn't mean to make him...”
I was cut off again, “I don't care what you didn't mean to do. We do not accept that kind of language in this house. No go downstairs apologize to your brother and play a game with him.” There was not a single ounce of choice in her speech.
So I did as I was told. Made my way downstairs and to Skylar's door. I could hear Sam on the other side winning at Sky. “Not right now Sammy.”
Next thing I knew there was Sam coming out of the room. He took one look at me and barked, “Arf!” and turned around back into Skylar's room.
I knocked lightly on his slightly ajar door and opened it, “Sky...”
His eyes were red as he looked up. He wiped his face immediately. “What do you want now? Gonna yell at me again for something?”
I sighed. His anger towards me was totally justified. “I'm sorry okay. I'm really having a bad day, and I just wanted to be alone. I didn't mean to freak out at you. I just have no place for this anger to go, and it kind of launched at you.”
Sky sat up in his bed. “What happened to make you have a bad day?”
“Not right now, okay? Let's just play a game. Maybe we can finish Borderlands today.”
His face immediately lit up, “Okay! My controller is upstairs; I'll be right back!” There was a bounce in his step as he went upstairs with Sam in tow. I guess I'll have a minor distraction for now.
Noah's POV
I opened the stall of the bathroom, and there was Chance turning around from taking a piss. “Chance...” He gave me one look, and I could tell he knew. “Listen for just a sec.”
“No, Noah you listen for just a second, okay?” I nodded; I wasn't about to say something more to upset him. “Aidyn is at home right now, doing who knows what. What I do know is that he's hurting like hell. I don't know what happened, but you need to really think about this okay? I don't like seeing my friend hurt but if this is what you think you got to do, then I'll help him back up.”
“Okay... I will... Thanks for not being mad at me Chance.”
He shook his head, “Oh no I'm livid at you. But I can't just do whatever I want to do. If I could, I would probably punch you right now. That wouldn't help anything or anyone though. I get relationships are tough, and yours, more so. Just make sure you're making the right choice before you finalize it.” And just like that he walked out into the hallway.
When I got out I walked... maybe seven feet when Aaron came up from behind me, “Aidyn wasn't in his last class, where is he?”
“You don't even have the last class with him!”
She rolled her eyes, “I don't need to to have gossip lead back to me. Now what is going on Noah?”
I looked away. “I broke up with him...” I spoke under my breath.
Aaron shouted, “You what!?” She pulled me outside and away from the doors, “Why did you do that?”
“I don't know okay? I just asked him to give me a day he would out himself and he tried to weave his way around it. So I... ya.”
She slapped me across the face hard. “I don't care if I get suspended for that; you deserved it.”
“That hurt!”
“GOOD!” She shouted at me. “Noah, all Aidyn talks about with me is you. What you and he did last time you hung out and the plans for the next time. What kind of stuff he should get you for a Christmas present. Aidyn really cares for you, man. I wish I had a guy like him, you're lucky!”
Man I really fucked up, “Then what do I do?”
Aaron rolled her eyes. “You get to his house and apologize!”
“But we HAVE to be home after school today. It's family dinner.”
“Fuck, you're so right! You have got to text him or something. Don't let him fall through your fingers. He's worth the wait Noah.” Aaron marched off back into the school.
I took out my phone. Aidyn had sent me a message. Noah, please come back.
I sent him a reply; We really need to talk. Tomorrow before class starts meet me at my locker, please.
It wasn't until I got home that day that I got a reply. Okay, I'll be there.
Now what am I going to say? How am I going to do this? If he can just give me a good enough answer for one question, I'll be good... I just need one good answer. That's not too hard, right?
