My Life Started at the End of the World - 28. Chapter 28 - Remedy - Wave on Wave
Aidyn's POV
Dad and I sped most of the way to the hospital. He dropped me off at the front door before trying to find a parking spot. Meanwhile, I was inside looking for Aaron.
I found her in front of the nurse's station. “Where is he?”
“Just over this way, he just woke up. The doctors are checking him out now.” We made our way towards where ever Noah's room was. Standing outside of a room were Noah's aunt and uncle. They smiled as we walked up.
A nurse came out of the room. “Noah is doing fine. He's got some bruising, but the important thing is he's fine. We're just preparing to put a cast on his right arm. You can go in now if you'd like. Only two at a time though.”
Noah's uncle sat back down. “I say Aaron and Aidyn should go first. Just tell him we're outside.” His aunt seemed to agree and sat back down.
“Thank you,” was all I could say before I got in the room.
Noah was lying on the bed looking miserable. His right arm resting on his abdomen looked a little deformed. His eyes were black, and you could see bruises on his arms. When he saw us though he had a huge smile on his face, like nothing, was wrong.
“What brings you guys here?”
Aaron laughed, I just couldn't. “Who did it?”
Noah's face turned serious as I asked him that. “Right now, let's be happy I'm fine okay? I'll tell you later when you've calmed down.” You know what, fair enough. I think my adrenalin was about to run out anyways. “So how bad do I look?”
“Battered and bruised,” Aaron answered honestly.
“Like a raccoon.” I joked. Noah stuck his tongue out at me. “How do you feel?”
“Sore... the arm is the worst of it all. I'm getting a cast!” He is way too excited for that. “I can get everyone to sign it. Of course Aidyn will be first though!” I couldn't help but chuckle. He's taking it all really well.
“Mom and Dad wanted to let you know they are just outside. Only two at a time allowed in the room.” Aaron told him plopping down in a chair.
“Cool.” Noah looked over at me. “How'd you get here so fast? I was told I was only out for twenty minutes.”
“My dad drove me here as soon as Aaron called me.” My stomach decided to rumble after I finished. “And that reminds me that I have food waiting for me! I'll be right back.”
I went out into the hallway. Dad was talking to Noah's Aunt and Uncle. “What's up Aidyn?”
“Do you have my food? I really hungry now.” Dad just shook his head and handed me one of the containers. “Thanks, dad!” The short of it is that I had to share my food with Noah.
Noah was only in the hospital for a few hours. They wanted to make sure he was fine and get the cast on. I was the first to sign it, Aaron was second. Not the worst thing that could have happened at least.
Noah got told to lie down and was given a prescription for painkillers. I went to Noah's house; I wasn't letting him out of my sight until I got answers. Once we got him settled in his bed, we started to watch a movie, Fight Club ironically.
Part way through the movie I turned to him. “So are you going to tell me?”
“That would spoil the movie!” Oh ya, I haven't seen Fight Club yet... I know I'm horrible.
“That's not what I meant and you know it.” Noah sighed. “You can tell me anything Noah...”
“It's not me being pathetic; it was legit.” Noah looked away. “Promise you won't do anything stupid?”
“I make no such promises.”
“You have to!” Noah declared.
“Why do I have to?” His eyes were pleading for me to promise. “Fine, I won't do anything stupid, promise on my life.”
Noah rubbed his cast. “It was Jackson and his friends...” I slammed my hand onto the bed. “Ow!” He glared at me.
“Sorry, I just...” This anger... I really wish this bed was Jackson's face.
“You promised you wouldn't do anything stupid remember that!” Noah continued to glare at me. “Don't break this promise!” He looked like he was going to cry. His breathing was heavy, and his eyes were tearing up.
“I won't... I really want to, but I won't because I promised you. That is the one and only reason.” Don't know how I'm going to handle this but I can't do anything stupid... This is going to be hard.
The next day, Noah wasn't at school, no surprise there. I told Chance and Bryce about the promise I made to him so that they can make sure that I am keeping it. Luckily I was there early so I can hide before seeing Jackson.
Surprisingly Leo was there early as well. “Hey, where's Noah?”
“At home, he got beat up pretty badly.”
“Oh shit! Who did it?” Leo was as shocked as I was last night.
I looked at him for a moment. “Who do you think? Jackson and his friends of course.”
Leo nodded, agreeing with me. “I saw Colton, why don't we go talk to him?”
“If I see him, Leo, I'm going to punch him. I don't care that he 'just hangs out' with them; he's still one of them.” Not only that but my horrible, horrible promise would be broken.
Leo put his hand on my shoulder. “Aidyn, I get where you're coming from, but trust me.” Why should I trust him? I've known him for like a month now, maybe. “Okay, let me do the talking then.”
He walked off to find Colton. “Leo!” I jogged up to him. “You can't I promised Noah that I wouldn't do anything stupid and talking to Colton...” As we turned a corner, there he was right in front of us. “Hi, Colton...”
“Ahhh, Colton just the person who I wanted to see!” Leo leaned against the wall.
Colton looked between the both of us frantically. “I swear I didn't know! My parents had me at home all night.”
“And why do you feel the need to go directly on the defensive.” I want answers, and I want them now.
He visibly shrunk before us. “Because I feel really bad that it happened, and I know you want to do something about it.” Well, he's not wrong...
“Why did he do it? Do you know?”
“Jackson is jealous of you. To him, you have everything going for you and he's got nothing. That's what I see anyways... He's just being a dick about it right now.” For fuck sakes! I could kill Jackson.
I turned, swinging my arms back and forth. “So they attacked Noah to get to me? Fuck, I need to calm down before I break my promise. I'll be outside walking around the school like sixteen bazillion times!”
I marched outside and began my laps around the school. It's February; there is still a whole bunch of snow outside, so it's a long ass walk around the school. And that is exactly what I need!
Jackson beat up Noah to get to me. Does he realize what he's done!? Whoever did it with him is fucked for soccer. They will never make the team if anyone goes to the principle with solid proof. He'd be so fucked!!
I had just made it half way around the school when Brailyn appeared from a vehicle. “Hey Aidyn, what's up?”
“Cooling off...”
He looked around casually. “Cooling down? It's freezing out here!”
I shrugged. “Considering how angry I am, I think freezing is a perfect temperature.”
“Care for an explanation?”
"Care for a walk?” He shrugged as we continued walking around the school. I told him everything I knew about the situation. He listened intently the entire time. “... and now I have promised Noah I wouldn't do anything stupid, and it's really hard to keep that promise!”
“No doubt.” Brailyn stopped walking. “Aidyn, I know you're mad, but if you just leave it be Jackson will get what's coming to him.”
“When will that be though?”
He got this sly smile on his face. “If there is one thing I know about Jackson it's this: He loves recording his jackass stunts. There's a video of it somewhere, no doubt in my mind. Let me work my magic, just stay calm and keep that promise.”
I have to let other people do stuff for me. This fucking sucks...
Greyson's POV
“You'll be staying at Sky's for the next couple of days.” Mom told me once I got home from school.
“How come?”
“Your father and I have to go out of town. He has a business trip where a few of my friends live. I don't want to take you out of school and leave you in the middle of nowhere.” The thing to know about me on vacation, I suddenly become very high maintenance.
I laughed. “Fair enough. You could have been straight forward and said I'd ruin your fun.”
Mom began to stutter, trying to find a better answer, but surrendered. “Fine, you're not wrong. Would you want to come anyways?”
“HELL NO!” Dad business trips suck! YUK!
The day finally came when I temporarily moved into Sky's place. Since meeting him, I've been to his house enough that I can now remember where everything is. Mrs. Scott was super surprised when I walked through, just passing some objects.
“Wow, it's like you can see everything. Been here enough Greyson?”
“No, I haven't been here enough!” Legit how I feel.
“Well you'll be here for just about a week, so maybe then.” She jested. Sky and I spent part of the afternoon in the kitchen baking. Honestly my favorite thing to do with him!
We were just glazing cinnamon rolls when the door opened and closed. “It smells good in here!” It was Mr. Scott.
I can't tell you what this man looks like, but I like to imagine I do. He's a cop, so he's in a uniform most of the time. He doesn't have a beer belly though; he's not that kind of cop. Mr. Scott actually has muscle... and because of that he is kind of intimidating.
“Skylar and Greyson have been baking all afternoon. Would you like some?” Mrs. Scott offered some of our goodies to her husband.
Mr. Scott took a bite of something, can't tell what it was though. “This is really good! You two should be proud of yourselves.”
My cheeks raised in temperature. “It's mostly Skylar... I can't check if they are done or not.”
Sky giggled. “You do most of the mixing though!”
“That's because it's all I can do!” Everyone laughed at our friendly banter.
The four of us stayed around and talked a bit. Mostly school stuff and most of it was directed towards me. I mean, Mr. Scott talks to Sky more than me, so it's only natural I guess.
Then came the inevitable question. “What's it like to be blind Greyson?”
I shrugged. When you've never experienced sight before it's hard to compare. “Well, because I don't see anything I have to focus more on my other scenes. Mostly touch and hearing. Oh by the way, that whole your other senses get better is fiction.”
“Really?” He sounded honestly shocked about that.
“Ya, like I said I just focus more on other senses, they don't get better because of it. Every year mom likes to get my hearing tested, and I've actually gotten a bit of hearing loss. Luckily it's nothing major.” My mom is a worrywart and wants to make sure there is nothing wrong with me 100 percent of the time.
“That's interesting... So do you see anything at all?”
“Not a thing, it's just black. But I know there is a garbage can there.” “A ceiling fan in the living room and you are still in your uniform. Your belt is clunky and makes a lot of noise.”
He chuckled. “You really do focus more on your ears. Well, I'm going to go have a shower but first grab another cookie.”
Sky's mom swatted his hand away. “I'm going to be starting dinner soon, no filling yourself up on sweets!” Sky and I gave out a giggle. “That goes towards you two as well!”
These few days with the Scotts should be fun. I mean when is hanging with Skylar ever not fun?
