Love I - 2. As You Lay Sleeping

I look at you as you lay sleeping

your lashes long against your cheek

your hair falling softly across your brow

I see your lips parted slightly

your warm, sweet breath brushes them

and I think of kissing you

but I just brush the hair from your eyes

and run my finger gently along your cheek

and my lips breathe your name silently

my love for you is unquestionable

my heart and soul belong to you

every breath in my body is yours

my body would never betray you

my skin wants only to feel your skin

my lips want only to taste your lips

yet my thoughts, my words dishonor you

they crave, they seek, they satiate

they soil your love with the soot of betrayal

I look at you as you lay sleeping

your lashes long against your cheek

your hair falling softly across your brow

I see your eyelids flutter slightly

your warm, sweet breath catches

as sleep heartlessly abandons you

and you look up at me

at the one who holds your love so carelessly

and your lips breathe my name

your love for me is unconditional

you give your heart and soul to me

every beat of your heart is mine

you tell me this as you hold me

as your skin heats my skin

as your lips tenderly caress mine

and you tell me that words are just words

that no betrayal can exist in a fantasy

that the reality of our love is all that matters
