   (3 reviews)

Best friends, Luke and Matt, have been inseparable since primary school and now, after twelve long years of schooling, the end of those school years are finally within sight. All that is left to do is make it through the night of the school formal, before starting their final exams.

So what will the night bring for the boys and their group of friends? What secrets are about to be exposed? How will they, their families and their friends all react to the events that are about to unfold? And what will they discover about themselves . . . about each other . . . and about life?

An exceptionally well-written story set in the late 1990's/early 00's which has not dated and has universal appeal. The story premise, two boys meet in their pre-teen years and as they mature they realise a new facet to their friendship has crept up on them in their teenage years.

There is plenty of action, with the boys, Luke and Matt, facing the usual hardships which many teenagers do with family and friends. Throw in several unpleasant and one particularly nasty character and you have a story which is as authentic as the characters themselves.

@Mark Ponyboy Peters has written several stories in which Luke and Matt feature as the main cast or supporting characters and this is the first.  To quote Molly Meldrum, a well known Australian from my youth and that of the author, "do yourself a favour" and read this story set against the beauty and sunshine of the Australian urban landscape. I guarantee you will not be sorry you do.

Wow! Thank you, kind sir for your lovely words!

When I first read this I was hooked and I was sad the story ended. 😢 And then I became happy again when I found out it is part of a larger series and then inhaled the rest of it (almost! If it’s possible to “inhale” words). 😄 If you are new to Mark Peters’ Thompsonville series, you will not disappoint!

Thank you for your very kind words!

I do not know what places in this story are real and which are fictional.  (I believe Thomsponville is fictional.)  As I read, I try looking at a map of Australia via OpenStreetMap at [https://www.openstreetmap.org]  I am able to find many of the places named.  However, I find Macquarie Harbour on the island of Tasmania and Port Macquarie where the plot-line describes Macquarie Harbour.  Is this intentional, is this your mistake, or is OpenStreetMap in error?
