Marty's Poetry - 5. Insignificance

When I was in the sixth form, myself and a group of my friends tried to write poetry about what we called Truth. The capital T in the word Truth was meant to signify a universal truth, one which would capture and encapsulate all other truths. This was one of my attempts...

Whilst bounded to this nebulous blob
which, with dumbfounded ignorance,
hurtles through the cosmos,
in but the close proximity
of that stellar body
called the sun ...

... how can I hope
to find the truth
of the whole universe,
of which I see
but a billion-billionth part
or less?

I think there is always a real truth. Sadly, the human race these days operates to a much more cynical tenet:

There is no truth. There is just what people believe.

So you keep looking, okay?

I agree with @Geron Kees there is a real truth. There always will be. Everything is cyclical, one day people will stop this round of stupidity and start to think. Again.

I was raised with the credo: Doubt everything you get told, at least once, even 2+2=4.  Time will tell, if this is a good start to find Truth one day.  Your poem seems also a beautiful start for this quest. 🙂 Lyssa

Thanks for reading and commenting, Geron.

Myself and my classmates at the time were all studying science subjects at A level. So we thought there may be a Universal truth. :)

But I still do, particularly nowadays (especially with the rise of the likes of Mr Trump, et al), try to separate what's true from what's false.

And let's just hope they will. :)

Thanks for the comment, @Lyssa :)

And if you count in base 3, then 2+2=11 :unsure2:

We all need to find our own truths and need to continually search. Keeping an open mind as you do is a good place to start. Yet another thought provoking piece of work.
