I am the Answer

There is no ‘I’ in ‘team,’ they tell me
But I don’t want to be on a team
I want to fly solo. I want the spotlight on me
And I deserve this

I am who I am in spite of them
They told me to follow the rules,
But I showed them how to break them
I will not be caged,
I will not let them mold me into who they want me to be

I am my own god
I shape my own destiny
My genius soars in the face of their mediocrity
They cringe at the thought of individual achievement
They ask me why I don’t credit them
But I don’t reply
Because I did it on my own
Because I am the answer

I do not waver in the face of their accusations
Because I am secure in my own skin
Because I don’t need their approval
Because I am the answer
