Collection of Poetry - 6. Too Little, Too Late
Too Little, too Late
I’m sorry, I really am
I know it’s too late
I know it only causes pain,
But I love you
You walked into my life,
And turned it upside down
You were everything I wasn’t
And you were willing to do what I couldn’t
I wouldn’t make the first move,
So you did.
I couldn’t say ‘I love you,’
So you said it first
I didn’t open up to you,
So you invited yourself in
I vacillated and I wavered,
I hummed and I hawed
But you were always there
But you always kept the fire going
You understood and you empathized
You cherished my wounded heart
You knew I couldn’t trust,
And you didn’t care
I wouldn’t open the doors
And you stopped knocking
I vaunted my inner daemons
And you played second fiddle
I don’t blame you for leaving
But I want you to know I love you
I won’t guilt you into staying
Because I put in too little, too late
