Once upon a time a young man named Gregor was sent on a long journey across the mountains to be apprenticed to be a butcher. He came to the proverbial fork in the road neither of which were good choices. Gregor chooses the short, easy route, a choice he may live to regret.

Two reserve flight officers on commerce patrol duty encounter an alien ship unlike anything they’ve seen before. There is only one thing to do, follow protocol and board the ship. Unfortunately, one of them encounters something from the distant past of human existence on Earth.

Zachary Alexander is a normal teen growing up on a cattle ranch in Eastern Oklahoma. He's the quarterback of his high school football team, which took the State Championship. During the summer before his senior year, Zach goes on a canoe trip with three of his friends. An incident occurs on that trip which dramatically alters Zach's life. He is branded a homosexual by those friends and life goes horribly wrong.

Harlon Eldrick's mother is dying of recurrent breast cancer and wants him to go tell his father. Harlon lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and his father lives across the country in a small collection of buildings called Black Dog, Washington. Harlon wants to make this an adventure. He will take the train to Chicago and hitchhike from there to Black Dog. It's been over a week, since Harlon left Chicago on a trip that's been anything but an adventure. He is welcomed into a semi by Steve Lennard for what he hopes is his last ride.

The Moresby Collective Association controls life for Terrans living on Moresby’s Planet in the Andromeda galaxy. Twenty-one teens are running away from Village 31K2.6 because of unspoken horrors afflicting young people. There goal is the land on the other side of the Great Western Sea where legend says they will live free for the rest of their lives. Chasing them are thirty-one adults who will kill every teen, except for their leader Edgar Christiansson. He will be returned to the village to be executed in a way only humans can imagine.

Tween Denny Marsden is planning to be a pirate when he goes out with his friends for Halloween. In his English class, he is so focused on the night ahead he starts to dream of going up to old man Snell’s farmhouse standing on O’Reilly Hill for more than he will get at any other house in town. Much to his horror old man Snell is not as nice as he imagines.
