Some insight into my Anthology story
Well, I promised to challenge myself to write a different kind of story and I did just that.
My story is called Reflection and it is split into three parts: Part I Symmetry, Part II Mirage, and Part III Revealing.
In a few words, this story has sex, power, depression, kindness, and a life fulfilling concept embedded within it.
The next couple paragraphs might be a little too literary, but I want people to understand why the story is like that:
If you read my story from beginning to end, then re-read it again, you will figure some literary cues and allusion. Yes, I am paying a lot of respect to H.P Lovecraft's work and themes, but I am doing so in my own writing style and probing issues that many gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgendered people must deal with.
My idea for the theme of legends was a very old legend that I kept hearing about, the Doppelganger. It has existed in many cultures and religious ideals about the duality of a person. A doppelganger is frightening to many people; imagine a person who is you, but not you.
A double questions the very nature of identity and self, which are two things GLBT people deal with tremendously throughout their development. The subtext of this story is something I am very proud in creating, because I felt the inclination to develop it in line with my experiences and the experiences of people I know.
Also, most people will realize I was being overtly sexual and coarse in this story. The sexual component was something that I wanted to branch into and incorporate into my stories more as sex does seem to missing in my stories. Maybe, I have a bit of Freudian interpretation about self and identity. Also to me, the least sexual relationship in this story was the purest. A relationship based on friendship and companionship does not need to be defined by dominance and power, which my other characters' interactions go into. You might need to dominate your own emotions in order to define you as a person, but the relationship between two people should be based on mutual accepted terms.
Okay, if none of that entices you read it, then I wil give a spoiler; there's a "threesome" in it
