Brutal DVD Reviews: Zombieland, Pandorium, 9 and Moon

Zombieland - is a movie I was all set to hate. A redneck, a geek and two female grifters turn out to be much deeper and more engaging characters than you would think at first glance. It turns out that the very skills that made these characters only marginally functional in ordinary society made them excel at survival after the zombie apocalypse. This ain't Shakespeare but it's good for a few laughs.   A great bros & brews action movie. A-     Pandorum - Hated it. I'm not sure whether i

Brutal DVD Review: 2012

Wretched, bogus, implausible, horrible, badly written, plastic characters, a circle jerk of chicles, really, really bad science and the worst ending in the history of movies.   Neutrinos that heat up the earths core? The writer should be beaten to death with a physics book.   Fails the science, barely pases for fiction.   Skip it or watch it for computer generated graphics- the best part of the movie.   The CGI is all this crappy, craptacular crapfest has to offer.   Don't be a fool an

New Orleans

Love it, hate it, don't care: you have to admit that there is a magic to the place that doesn't exist anywhere else.     Four years ago when Katrina destroyed most of the city, we were afraid that the magic was gone.           Today... the magic is back.     Magic!

Scientist denounced as heretic and witch burned at the stake

Scientist Denounced as Heretic, Witch- Burned at the Stake     Dr. Ed Welsh was burned at the stake today by the Holy Church of the Global Warming Apocalypse, LLC.   Dr. Welsh's paper on Atmospheric Dynamics and Climate Change was deemed heresy by the Holy See of Global Warming and the execution order was signed by Pope Al Gore.   Given a chance to recant his heresy, Welsh refused.   Welsh was excommunicated, his holy science decoder ring impounded and held without bond for his trial b

Once Twilight is done, I am looking forward to my next project.   I am considering two story ideas and want to know what you would like to see next.     Consequences   thesis: a comedy of errors triggered by a college students prank becomes deadly serious.   genre: spy thriller   Status: study     the Short Bus   thesis: a spoiled high school jocks knee injury lands him among disabled students where he learns a lot about life   genre: high school   Status: study

the Coldest Hole in Dixie

I got a call today. Some idiot on a bulldozer had sliced a fiber cable and they needed somebody who could patch it up fast. The job turned out to be a misery.   It wasn't the cable. It was cut twice leaving a gap of two and a half feet.   It wasn't the number of fiber strands. That could have been a lot worse. It was only 24 pairs.   It wasn't that the hole was muddy and wet. It wasn't. It was frozen.   It was the coldest damn hole I've ever been in.   I got there at 1 this afternoon a

Remember the Far Side!

If you are of a certain age and twisted outlook, you probably know and love the Far Side. I sure do. For years it was the only reason I subscribed to the @&*^%ing! paper.   Here are a few of my old favorites.     Note: this cartoon pre-dates AlGore

The Incredible Shrinking Butt

A couple of months ago I joined a gym. I wanted to get a jump on the resolutions thing. That never works.   I started a program 4 times a week and have stuck to it. A lot of times I go daily depending on my schedule.   I put most of the time into cardio and ride an exercise bike for 45 minutes. For the balance of my time I hit the weights. After 2 months at it I'm seeing results and am pleased.   The right parts are getting harder and more defined. Other parts are shrinking... including my

Rebuilt Office

Back around Halloween I was hit with some minor flooding. Anyone who has been hit by flooding can tell you it's never minor. It sucks. It's a major hassle. I have finally gotten things worked out.   One of my aims was to re work my office and after a solid two weeks of work (which is still ongoing) here are the results.   I've installed a U-shaped desk in one end of the room, added bookshelves and an entertainment center from this millennium. It's been fun but a lot of work.     This i

Rebellion!

Epsilon Ceti Alliance Sector Command Center   It was shortly after 03:30 in the Command Center. The graveyard shift was on their second and third cups of coffee and praying that nothing bad would happen on their watch. A week before the vast majority of the fleet had jumped away to take part in a major offensive against the Andromeden invaders. All that was left was a small task force at Lamda Indi and the ships that weren't ready to jump when the fleet moved out. The cupboard was as bare as

Interstate at Night

Wow. The last week has been a blur.   Last Saturday night I got a call from my Aunt. My uncle died. The funeral was Tuesday.   So soon after my Dad's death, it brought it all back. Another military funeral. Another flag draped coffin. Another soldier from a forgotten, unpopular war.   It pissed me off. So I wrote Valhalla. I'll be posting it soon.   Wednesday morning I drove my Mom to Dallas to have Thanksgiving at my brothers house. Traffic sucked. It took 3 hours to get from Canton, T

Broken

Broken by Lifehouse off of Who We Are   Watch Video   The Broken clock is a comfort It helps me sleep tonight Maybe it can stop tomorrow From stealing all my time And I am here still waiting Though I still have my doubts I am damaged at best Like you've already figured out   I'm falling apart I'm barely breathing With a broken heart That's still beating In the pain There is healing In your name I find meaning So I'm holding on (I'm holdin on)(I'm holdin on) I'm barely hold

The Worst Day Since Yesterday

The Worst Day Since Yesterday by Flogging Molly's album Swagger   Listen   Well I know, I miss more than hit With a face that was launched to sink An' I seldom feel, the bright relief It's been the Worst Day Since Yesterday   If there's one thing I have said Is that the dreams I once had, now lay in bed As the four winds blow, my wits through the door It's been the Worst Day Since Yesterday   Fallin' down to you sweet ground Where the flowers they bloom It's there I'll be found

Gym Beast and the Gym Bunny

I joined a gym about a month ago. My last gym went bankrupt and left me hanging with four months of dues.   I know the owner and like the equipment so I have a lot more confidence. I haven't worked out regularly for a while so I decided to start with a lot of aerobic stuff. I didn't touch a weight for a couple of weeks.   Every morning I first started I spent 45 minutes to an hour on a stationary bike.   Once I got my stamina back, I cut the time on the bike down and have started in on

I'm Ba-ack

w00t!   My computer lives!   I got it running this evening.   Sure, I like my laptop but it's just not the same.   I had to replace my UPS. It was on the floor and got wet. Everything else I broke down and stashed in the attic.   My recovery from the Halloween flood continues.   I'm Ba-ack. Buh-wa-ha-haha     Twilight readers... the next chapter will be released shortly.

Halloween Horror

On the way home from work I got a frantic call from my Mom- "Help! I've got water coming in!"   We have had one of the wettest Octobers on record and got a huge splash of rain Thursday & Friday: 6 1/2" in 14 hours. A creek near my Mom's house had gotten dammed up by logs and sentiment and flooded her garage and kitchen.   I moved her car and fridge before it got wet so yeah! big win. I found where the creek was backing up and managed to break it lose. It drained off quickly and left me

My next story

I got this idea from a prank I pulled some years ago and thinking about it- whoa... this story could kick major ass.   Prankster kid is instantly swept up in a web in international intrigue and ends up wanted by the FBI, Mossad, FSB, Homeland inSecurity and terrorists!   What do you think!?   Does this sound like fun or am I dain bramaged? No wait. I'm dain bramaged and it sounds like fun... or does it just sound like fun because of my dain bramage?

A War for Oil

Two nations and their allies fought a tremendous war over oil.   One of them was militaristic and aggressive. The other was more interested in building their economy.   It started when the militaristic nation attacked a weaker, backwards nation that could barely defend herself. The militant nation turned their war machine on the weaker nation, slaughtering her population and looting her resources.   Horrified by the attack on a nation that could barely defend herself, the economic powerhou

Week 5

Four Win Teams:   Vikings- Looked strong against divisional rival Green Bay. Play the Lambs week 5 and then have the Ravens.   Broncos- Will have to continue to play well because they have the Pats, Chargers and Ravens over the next three weeks.   Colts- Have the Titans, Lambs and 49ers over the next 3 weeks and may have a legit shot at coasting to 7-0.   Giants- Play the Raiders and get the Saints in week 6.   Saints- The Saints won with something that they aren't known for: defense

five years

Today I've been clean and sober 5 years.   I've been through a lot of changes in that time- not all of them for the better. Seen some difficult times that I would have really rather been somewhere else.   It's not easy starting again after 40. If you use drugs and alcohol, I suggest getting clean and sober earlier. People love to give second chances to young people. When you are older, I guess they figure that you should know better. It's much harder and takes more grit than most people have

Week 4

Three Win Teams:   Vikings- There is reason for optimism in Viking country. With Peterson running and Farve showing flashes of that old bayou magic, the Vikes look to be closer to making a run than they have been in years.   Denver- Call me back when they play somebody- oops, they've got Dallas next week... but is Dallas anybody?   Colts- are expected to be a playoff team from a weak division. Theier real test is how far they get once they get in the playoffs.   Giants- whuppin' Tampa B
