Nephylim 14,881 Posted September 2, 2010 You have no idea how many times I almost turned that video off but I watched every frame right through to the end because I felt somehow that I owed it to all of the people who were remembered there. This is a crazy world. Why do people do this to each other. BUT... it's important not to let the fear in. Mourn, respect, wonder why but keep the fear away or the people behind the knife, the gun, the fists will win. Individually we should take responsibility for trying to do what we can... a word to a depressed teen, a report to the police of anything suspicious... don't just turn away... care.
Tiger 1,729 Posted September 2, 2010 I literally cried while watching it. I agree about not letting fear in. More or less, we do sometimes need a reminder that there are hateful people in the world.

Andrew Q Gordon 9,233 Posted September 14, 2010 Tiger, That truly is sad, we prosecutor hate crimes in my office - I am one of 4 gay men and two lesbian woman - one of whom is my supervisor. One of the other men and I volunteer to take all the hate crimes involving sexual orientation - everyone knows we are gay - defense bar, judges, probation, US marshals you get the idea. Spreading this to anyone who will see it is a wonderful gift to those who died. There are few who remember them beyond the news coverage [Matthew Shepard excluded.] I have been to more than a few candle light vigils - including one for Shepard on the US Capitol Grounds. They are horribly sad but vital events. I am extremely fortunate to work for a boss who has zero tolerance for any hate crimes, no matter the bias but sadly we are not the norm for law enforcement. I just wanted to say thanks for sharing this, I hope others see it and pass it along. Andy
