Round Two: I Can Do Better

So I was going to write this whiney entry complaining about all the things I couldn't do. All the things I used to know and can't remember; all the hopes I had that didn't pan out; all the skills I had that I've lost. Then I realized, What the heck am I whining about? I should just get out there and learn it/relearn it/do it.

I'm sick of making excuses, lowering my standards, and playing for sympathy. I'm sick of doing it the easy way. I'm sick of worrying. I'm sick of playing it safe. And I'm sick of talking myself out of stuff I want to do. So I'm done. Instead of wishing and whining, I'm actually going to do it.

There's nothing wrong with me; there's no reason why I can't accomplish anything and everything I set my mind to. I'm young, intelligent, resourceful, energetic, and good looking (and I'm NOT going to apologize for this little bout of conceit). I'm going to just do it!

So here's some of the things I want to accomplish:

Languages I want to learn:

-French

-German

-Spanish

Places I want to go or live:

-The British Isles

-Western Europe and the Mediterranean

-The Orient

-Australia

-Canada

Instraments I want to learn:

-Piano

-Guitar

-Drums

Skills I want to learn:

-Ice skating

-Swimming

-Skiing

-Riding a horse

-Archery

I also want to relearn pretty much EVERYTHING. I need to brush up quite a bit. It seems like everyday I hear about something and think "oh yeah I used to know about that".

So here's what I'm going to do TOMORROW to begin to get some of this done.

I'm off work tomorrow so I'm going to go ice skating, then I'm going to the Library where I'm either going to study something from History or something from Science or both. Then in the evening I'm going back to my online Spade League. I enjoy the game and it was good mental exercise.

Basically I don't want to waste anymore time; so I'm not going to. So here's what I'd like to ask people reading this to do to help me. Tell me something interesting. I don't care what it's about, just pick something that you know that most people probably don't, from ANY area, and tell me. I want to expand my knowledge base. Anyway thanks and have an awesome day everyone.

Kevin

Okay - I'll bite.

Here are two tidbits of information that I have always found interesting.

#1. Did you know that the length of your foot is the same as the length of your forearm? There are probably some exceptions to this, but its true for the majority.

#2. The concept of the football (American version) huddle originated at Galludet University (Washington DC). Galludet is mainly for those that are deaf, and their football team used American Sign Language to call their plays. They needed a way to hide this from the opposing team, and behold, the origination of the huddle.

Here is my fact for the day :D

The difference between a fruit and a vegetable is that a fruit has seeds. So that means that even things we are always taught are veggies, like avaocado, tomato, cucumber, green pepper, etc. are really fruits...

PS. I like your attitutde Kevin, taking action, making things happen for yourself instead of pouting about it... that's an irreplacable quality to have. :2thumbs:

Well if you want to catch up on a little of holiday culture from Italy, read my blog. I posted the story of La Befana.

And if you don't then I give you this piece of science information: African Grey Parrots are reported to have the intellect of a 5 year old human child and the speaking capabilities of a 3 year old human child. (Sorry I like birds...)

You go, Kevin! :2thumbs::2thumbs:

Keep learning over the course of your whole life....picking up new hobbies every couple years is a way to keep the mind active. It'll probably help stave off Alzheimer's too.

I think this is a great idea Kevin...we are all gonna learn heaps of interesting and not so interesting facts. :D

Okay...I'm an Aussie gal so I would like to add a few facts (interesting or otherwise) about Koalas if I may...

*Koalas are not bears, they are marsupials - that means they carry their babies in their pouches.

*They have two thumbs on each front paw - it helps them to climb.

*Koalas sleep up to 21 hours a day (what a life!)

*They communicate with each other by making a noise that sounds like a snore followed by a belch

*A koala's urine smells a bit like eucalyptus oil. (I know this because I have been wee'd on by a koala when I happened to be under a tree he/she was asleep in at the time).

Ice Skating: The first person ever to land a quad jump in competition was Kurt Browning of Canada. It happened at the 1988 World Championships. That was the same year Brian Boitano of the US won the Olympic Gold Medal. Browning was the men's World Figure Skating Champion four times but never won a medal at the Olympics; he kept falling down at inopportune moments.

I know this is an old post, but I've been reading Kevin's blog from beginning to end. My question is: Kevin, was your foot the same length as your forearm? If so which size shoe do you wear? I didn't even come close -my forearm was like 4 INCHES longer than my foot! I wear a size 8.5, so maybe I am just a statistical outlier or something...

Hey Aaron! :D

I'm glad someone still reads my old posts :2thumbs:

My forearm and foot were very close in length. It sorta depended on where and how I measured each. Yes, in general my forearm seemed slightly longer, but I think that might have been from measuring technique.

Gosh, I'm not even sure what shoe size to give you. I guess it sorta depends on the style and "cut" of the shoe. I have one pair of shoes that's an 8.5. I have some 9's, a couple 9.5's, even some 10s and 10.5s. Most of the ones I buy now are 9 or 9.5, but I generally try to buy the smallest shoe that'll fit (well same with pants, shirts, and underwear for that matter). I just don't really like loose clothes, and shoes in particular I feel less attractive in some big bulky ones. My foot measures about 9.5 inches long if that tells you anything :P:boy:

Anyway take care and have an awesome day! :D
