turbid - Word of the Day - Sat Sep 12, 2026

Quote

turbid - (adj) - (of liquids) clouded as with sediment

Quote

After days of heavy rain, the river became so turbid with stirred-up sediment that the rocks beneath the surface were no longer visible.

Turbid is often more vivid than simply saying "muddy" or "cloudy" because it suggests suspended particles obscuring clarity. It's especially useful in nature writing, environmental reports, mystery novels, and literary fiction when you want the condition of water to reflect confusion, danger, or uncertainty.

To me Turbid is always relevant around elections when politicians love to muddy the water and stir up mud on their opponents.

1 - Place in large, clear container

2 - Add water. No need to agitate
