Regarding 'A Free Man in Paris' and 'Seeking Nirvana'

Well, being new to GA I guess I'm waaaaay late with my comments on these stories, but hopefully not too late. Anyway, because of that lateness, because I just read both stories consecutively, and because my thoughts on them are intermingled, I decided to start a new thread and comment on both. Hope no one objects!

First, it makes me sad to admit that I've never read anything by LB before (mea culpa!). However, I very much enjoyed both these stories and I do intend to read more. The casual, almost conversational style of writing drew me in and made me feel as if the author was sharing something privately, just with me.

Second, the story plots are refreshing twists on the 'boy meets boy' theme.

Third, it seems to me that both stories contain the theme of freedom. One is concerned mainly with physical and emotional freedom and the other also involves the idea of spiritual freedom.

Fourth, I liked the way that appropriate sections of the stories were pleasantly erotic without being sexually descriptive or pornographic.

I guess lots of gay teens have investigated Zen (though perhaps not as deeply as the hero in SN) and lots of gay teens have wandered through Paris, so no doubt it's mere coincidence that reading these stories in quick succession made me wonder if LB had been spying in me as a teen. Still, it did feel a bit spooky! :/

Okay, I never went on a Zen retreat, though I spent some time studying Zen in my mid teens. Also, I never got intimate with a cute boy in Paris, though when I was 15 I spent a few days there and saw many cute boys. One morning I got separated from my group on the Metro and ended up spending the rest of the day alone, wandering round the city. Anyway, LB's descriptions of both Zen and Paris were so well done that they recalled and enhanced my own memories. I only wish that my teenage memories of Paris and Zen also included erotic experiences with cute boys! :(

Toward the end of AFMiP, I was sort-of dreading the inevitable parting, but I was pleased to find that the farewell scene was sensitively handled with a light touch - sad but not maudlin.

Thanks for two great stories!

:)

 Based on the title, I thought we'd get the answer to that age old question...boxers or briefs?

Only LB can answer for sure...

But if there is somethimg of an autobiographical nature in these stories, then one might deduce... boxers.

:)
