Enric is right. The title is nice, and worth a lot, but I think she sees George as someone who could ultimately be successful enough to command a high position in the navy, or the government, and that's going to provide a lot more influence than being Freddie's wife and hanging out at court.

I think you are all writing off the women a bit too much here :P

though she certainly has got ambition and has spotted what will work well. and really, why would she want to be freddie's wife apart from what you just said above. I thought he wasn't all that nice. and granger is. and freddie's based in london too so she would have had to be around him all the time.

but other than that; she may have ambition that doesn't mean she doesn't have other wants and needs that can be overlooked by saying that's all she was looking out for.

That's a very good point. I guess I see her as a person very focused on moving her family forward, and I think that ambition is her prime focus. I suspect that she, like Granger, feels a strong sense of duty. Her duty right now is to spawn offspring and to watch out for their interests. She's doing a damn good job of it. But I plan to bring more of her personality out as we go. It's just difficult while Granger is gone so much.

Looking forward to it.

people are more complex than just looking for say money and a nice house, even if they are really concerned about that.

I'm just thinking about people I know.

granger has duty but there are a lot of bits about his personality other than that or that feed off of it.

--and you wrote how much she liked the sex :).

You'd have to let him be on shore for a little bit longer than few weeks!

Yes, and he has to try to keep his hormones in check. :lmao:

Or you could send her to meet the ship, which is when all the crew would mutiny because you can't have GIRLS on a SHIP, it's bad luck, and then George would have to strap them to the mast and whip them, and...

Actually, there were usually a few women on the ships, and I think I referred to one in the Wardroom. They were usually the wives of warrant officers, like the gunner, carpenter, or boatswain.

What about the ones who were dressed like boys and were actual sailors. You should write about one. I think it'd be cool. ;)

That's interesting, although a girl wouldn't last a day on Intrepid before she was figured out. Why? Granger's obsession with cleanliness. Any new crewmember would be stripped and bathed immediately to prevent the introduction of parasites (bedbugs and lice being the nastiest). That should pretty much reveal her as a female. Now a hermaphrodite...but I really wasn't planning to go into that world.

I know. But I wonder if Granger would help her hide it or kill her. It'd still be interesting to find out what he'd do about it. ;)

He has no problem with women... I mean if they don't interfere in his affairs, e.g. who will be on his ship etc. ;) He wouldn't kill a woman, he's aristocrat!

There could be some kind of punishment for it. Women weren't supposed to be on ships in such a capacity at that time.

Yes and no. One of the things about being a Captain is he'll really have broad powers. The Captain was basically the font of authority on the ship, and how he managed his ship was largely his affair (barring things like we saw with Desperate, etc.). What that means is that if Granger wanted to bring a woman on board, the Admiralty probably wouldn't give a shit. Now a lot of women...that might be an issue. Some Captains even took their wives with them.

Interesting story line. I'll keep that in mind.

Now, Mark, I don't want to flatter you but today's two chapters just made my day. :) After all the shit, it was a real bliss to just sit down and read Bloodlines and MaC, both with superb plot line just right now. :) It was really

Chapter 28 was superb! :2thumbs: Lots of action!

It's one thing to be pompous...actually both the French and the English excel at it :P but to be pompous when several canon are pointed at your ass....well, that's just dumb.

And Fitzwilliam brought up his rear....I mean, the rear. :lmao:

Kudos to Humphreys for his successful landing party! :music: Perhaps Fitzwilliam will offer his rear in celebration. Unfortunately, they're both busy right now sailing the captured brigs back to the fleet.

Thanks Paya. Master and Commander is 32 chapters long, and I had fun working on these last few chapters.

When I wrote the first draft, I kind of forgot about Fitzwilliam. If it wasn't for the sharp eyes of my editing team, he'd still be floating around in the Caribbean. I can't believe I forgot his ass, er, so to speak.

No one cares about poor George Granger. sad.gif They're all off reading Bloodlines.

I love him actually. He is truly magnificent. It also looks like he shall be a captain very soon. This also seems most unusual. He is taking an American to Philadelphia in between the American Revolution and the War of 1812. One has to wonder if things will be civil or not.

Those silly Americans with their love-hate relationship with England. Besides, who wouldn't love our cute, blond Commander? biggrin.gif Maybe I'll have him blow Washington.blink.gif

This is all heady stuff for a 19-year old. Everyone except Granger believes he's likely to be a Captain before he turns 20.

So Granger and Calvert will remain entwined at least until their return to England. I dread the day that Granger might have to choose between Travers and Calvert. :( The solution is still of course a threesome. :P

Super chapter, Mark! :worship::worship:

I'm glad you liked it! There are three chapters left to go.

I for one am looking forward to them all. :)

I'm glad. I still think I should have him blow Washington. Or maybe Granger, Washington, and Alexander Hamilton could have a menage a trois. I'd throw Jefferson in, but I don't think he liked blondes.biggrin.gif
