Conner Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 Well, that has to be the best chapter yet. I was totally riveted to my chair the whole time reading it. Only one thing could have made it better...if Quinn had gotten into the shower with Jude. Talk about missed opportunities...especially given the *gulp* description Dom gave of Jude in the shower. In case you were wondering, Dom, that was totally hot! Can you believe Quinn and Bree in the scene with mom? Wow! That blew me away. I believe that more than a few of the teens on this site might try the "ungrounding" thing. Quinn, way to go! Of course, he may well pay for that yet. As for Brad, I need to re-read the scene again, because I'm having some difficulty understaning what he really wants Quinn to do while he "deals". Conner
Coming Undone Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 As for Brad, I need to re-read the scene again, because I'm having some difficulty understaning what he really wants Quinn to do while he "deals". It's simple, He's in a similar situation as Quinn was in after the slug fest. He's got more pressing issues to deal with and he's asking Quinn to bear with him while he deals with it. He needs his best friend, the Gay thing isn't as important. Great chapter Dom, Thanks
AFriendlyFace Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 (edited) Yeah that was a really really awesome chapter! I was SO proud of Quinn for once in this chapter. Not for standing up to his mom (I've got mixed feelings about that), but for the way he actually delt with some of his own issues, and recognized where his feelings were coming from. I am of course mostly referring to his interaction with Marissa, but also the way he realized he was being too demanding, and insensitive with his interrogation of Jude. It also rocked that he actually managed to apologize. He also FINALLY talked to Brad, I think he did pretty well, he could have been a little more supportive though, I mean after all his friend basically told him he was dealing with some seriously bad stuff himself, and while I can see how Quinn would want to stay focused, I also kinda wish he woulda just stopped, looked Brad in the eye and said "what's going on, tell me about it". But I can't complain I get the impression that parts coming, and yeah like I said at least for once Quinn's actually dealing with his thoughts and feelings. As for Marissa, I still think she's getting the shaft, she's doing all the work to maintain their friendship, and even after their little heart to heart, the best Quinn can give her is an "ok" when she says she'll call him. I think he should have given her a big hug and made it a point to call her right away, before she even got a chance to call him. But I can understand if he's still a little conflicted, he's doing better at least. When it comes to Brad, yeah I think what he's saying is he wants things to go back to the way they were with Quinn, for Quinn to just, for lack of a better way of phrasing it, "not be explicitly gay" around him until he can deal with it better. Basically not get touchy feely with Jude in front of him, or talk too much about that stuff. Which really does seem pretty fair if you ask me, It's good that Brad wants to learn to accept it completely, the fact that he can't yet shouldn't be held against him. Anyway it does seem that Brad's got some stuff going on too, and I wish Quinn would decide to be there for him the way he's recently tried to be there for Jude. Heck at the rate he's going it looks like by the end of the story Quinn might actually manage to be a really good person, someone people are actually lucky to date/be friends with/be related to. Ok I guess that might be a little harsh, he's always seemed like a nice guy, but he's just been so self absorbed the whole story. I think it's funny everytime he mentions Marissa being self centered, I agree she often is, but for most of the story he's been much MORE self centered and blind to the feelings of those around him. I do get the impression he's a good guy though who's just going through a bad time and handling it poorly. (or at least he was, now he's actually doing pretty well) Edited October 11, 2005 by AFriendlyFace
Bardeara Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 Great chapter. it had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I am sort of expecting Mrs. Moore to 'drag' Bree out of that strip-club for some strange reason. Though a better questoin is why is that parking lot so well known to Quinn? Dom, great job as always, I look forward to the finally chapter and we already know it's going to be steller.
NaperVic Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 Though a better questoin is why is that parking lot so well known to Quinn? I believe the strip club is right next to the restaurant that Quinn, Bree, Mrs. Moore, and Jude ate at when Jude's Mommy Dearest came over.

Great chapter Dom, Thanks Great point. How ironic that there is such a demand for Brad to be patient with Quinn, but no allowance that Brad may need some slack on his end as well. I believe the strip club is right next to the restaurant that Quinn, Bree, Mrs. Moore, and Jude ate at when Jude's Mommy Dearest came over. Mrs. Moore is going to walk into the strip club and find Bree sucking on one of Marissa's exposed nipples. Am I the only one in here who thinks that's kind of hot?
NaperVic Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 Am I the only one in here who thinks that's kind of hot? Probably just you and Gobears
rknapp Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 Mrs. Moore is going to walk into the strip club and find Bree sucking on one of Marissa's exposed nipples. Am I the only one in here who thinks that's kind of hot? Hey the impression I got so far is that Bree and Marissa are hot. Hey, maybe for the last chapter, Bree gets with Marissa It was just a thought..... Lmao, but anyway I think his mother walking into that strip club only spells doom. Judes parents own the club, and are likely working it right at that moment. Judes parents also know that he is gay. Jude parents have no problem discussing family matters publicly, because as far as they are concerned, there is no family to speak of. Now, I highly doubt Mrs. Moore brought her laptop to the club to sit down and do some work, knowing full well just WHOSE PARENTS work at/own that club.
glomph Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 The Valium is for whom, Quinn, Mom, the reader, all of the above? The chapter left me in a somewhat agitated state, and Quinn and his mom seem to stay that way.
somuchtolearn Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005  No NO NOOO! You can't just leave the chapter there........ I'm hyperventilating here and Dom delivers another mind-torturing cliffhanger!! This is a new and unnerving experience - only having one chapter at a time to read. (Been working my way through TLW, DD, and the earlier chapters of TOU, but done those an now it really is down to one-at-a-time) DEFINITELY a valium job this one. Neil
Trebs Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 Absolutely loved this chapter - and while the cliffhanger was... um... evil?!? , it could have been worse. At least they got to the strip club in one piece - I kept imagining an accident, and THEN the cliffhanger (ie - stay tuned to see who lives, who dies, and who has a new case of acne on the next installment of "The Ordinary Us"). I think the laptop is so Quinn's mom can show a spreadsheet to Jude's parents of the money they should owe Jude - which would let him live on his own and go back to school. Of course, it's cheaper if he didn't have to pay rent - so, I can also fantasize that Quinn's mom invites him to stay with "And he can sleep in your room since he is your boyfriend.... He is, isn't he? Quinn? Breathe Quinn, breathe..."
Conner Posted October 11, 2005 Author Posted October 11, 2005 Great post, Trebs! The ending to chapter 23 is almost a double whammy, or double cliffhanger. Obviously, there's mom entering the strip club but there's also the Quinn/Brad conversation that got left hanging - especially with Quinn directing yet another zinger Brad's way. The spreadsheet explanation for the laptop makes a lot of sense. Thanks for that. I had no clue what that was all about. "...I can also fantasize that Quinn's mom invites him to stay with "And he can sleep in your room since he is your boyfriend.... He is, isn't he? Quinn? Breathe Quinn, breathe..." Conner
pep Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 I aggree with some of you that Quinn should be supportive of Brad the way he expects it the other way around. But hey, we still have a chapter to go (or maybe more, a guy can wish). There is still hope that things get better between the oldtime friends. While reading this chapter and Dom mentioning the backup in traffic as Quinn's driving home, I half expected it to be Bree and Kara having an accident. Luckily this din't happen, else mom wouldn't have been home when he arrived at Brad's. But now it is waiting and waiting and getting impatient for the next instalment, which is unluckily the last one snif, snif. (Or not???) Huggs, Peter
Trebs Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 I'm thinking (hoping?) that there will be two more. This chapter was 1 of 2 - so I think it's just the first half of his original last chapter. Then he mentioned a bonus chapter, so that means two more after this past one... unless that was due to the fact he had to split the last chapter to get everything in, in which case, we only get one more... unless... Arrgh - my brain can't keep up with itself. It is and it isn't the 2nd to last chapter... for all of the same reasons. Um - so ... that means... he'll go to 25 chapters... or is that 32? 45? 69? I know - he'll stop at 846 chapters... before starting the sequel (hey - he's young, he can do it)... PS And you wonder why DK hasn't written much recently? The real reason is that he has to hear such convoluted logic like this on a regular basis

Then he mentioned a bonus chapter, so that means two more after this past one... . I think you're right. IMO, there are 4 things Dom MUST do (are you listening Dom? ) Before this story ends. 1. Quinn has to resolve his friendship with Brad. He can tell him to take a hike or they can kiss and make up. Or, maybe no kissing. We wouldn
rknapp Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 something definately has to happen about Quinn coming out to mommy dearest, because that is the one great fear that has been a staple in almost every chapter up to now, so not resolving that fear will simply leave the feeling that not everything that needed to be accomplished to give Quinn a break, has happened yet. i keep having this gut feeling that someone is going to move in with someone else, and that might be jude with Quinns family. i predict that Mrs. Moore WILL have trouble if/when she finds out, and no matter how she finds out. but ultimately she will accept him, if her recent actions are of any indication. *dodges stray bullet from mom-haters* Lol, but seriously, the only reason she did what she did to punish him was to keep him safe. before he hit brad and this whole mess went haywire, she had trusted Quinn and Bree to care for themselves, but then he broke that trust by going AWOL. granted, he's a teenager, and gets to make mistakes. but she's a mom, and ALL moms worry about their children. god knows when i had my car accident, my mom couldn't have been there any faster than she was, and that was with placing a call to the police to come to the scene, and calling my father who was on his way to work at the time. that said, i do believe she'll have a hard time understanding, but maybe it won't be unlike Bree, and the journal will come to the rescue.
Bao Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 i know what i want more of before the chapter ends. lol.
Conner Posted October 14, 2005 Author Posted October 14, 2005 I believe chapter 23 "closed the book" in terms of Quinn's and Marissa's relationship. They will remain friends in all likelihood, at least for the duration of their school year. The reason for that is neither of them want to throw away a lifelong friendship when it really isn't necessary. After high school, though, they will likely drift apart. The best part of their friendship was back in that sandbox when they were kids. Conner
NickolasJames8 Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 :king: :king: AH HA!!!! I knew somethng was gonna go down with Murphey an Quinns mom...lol...YES!!!!! I think Quinn ad Bree are gonna have a grip of little brothers and sisters runnig around the house soon

It is kind of sad the way that life works, true bonds are not tested until one is an adult. Marrage and kids kind of do that to people don't they. Children is often the death of friendships. :king: :king: AH HA!!!! I knew somethng was gonna go down with Murphey an Quinns mom...lol...YES!!!!! I think Quinn ad Bree are gonna have a grip of little brothers and sisters runnig around the house soon I still think it will be Mr. Jones who Mrs. Moore is going to be dating. Then again wouldn't that add another few more chapters onto it?!?
Conner Posted October 14, 2005 Author Posted October 14, 2005 :king: :king: AH HA!!!! I knew somethng was gonna go down with Murphey an Quinns mom...lol...YES!!!!! I think Quinn ad Bree are gonna have a grip of little brothers and sisters runnig around the house soon When reading that chapter, I remembered that someone had predicted that Murphy and Quinn's mom would get it on. I think Dom might have thrown that in for just that reason. I don't think it's in the cards, though. Obviously, Mrs. Moore wasn't too thrilled with Murphy hitting on her, at least that's my impression. Murphy's motivation is also suspect. I'm thinking he saw that as a means of getting her out of his face and his shop. The whole concept is a hoot, I must admit. Conner
