sandrewn Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Goliath Birdeater Imagine a spider as big as a child's forearm that weighs as much as a puppy. That's how huge the South American Goliath birdeater — arguably the world's largest spider — can be. 1 1

That's how huge the South American Goliath birdeater — arguably the world's largest spider — can be. Damn, I was hoping that was an optical illusion. I pity the people that live where these things roam. The Goliath birdeater is native to the upland rainforest regions of Northern South America: Suriname, Guyana, French Guiana, northern Brazil, eastern Colombia, and southern Venezuela. Most noticeable in the Amazon rainforest, the spider is terrestrial, living in deep burrows, and is found commonly in marshy or swampy areas. It is a nocturnal species. 1 1
