They found a new earth-like planet.

It will be interesting to see what else they might be able to discover about it.  Since it's sun is 1.5 billion years older than our sun, if the planet is inhabitable, is it far more developed than our own or did it miss the ingredient that sparks life?  I can't wait to see what they learn.

Keep in mind when they say earth-like, they mean rocky and relatively the same size.

 

Past that point, anything goes. It could be an iceberg, another Venus or have no atmosphere at all.

It's just a matter of pointing a spectrometer in the right direction and they'll be able to see if there's water, what the atmosphere is composed of etc. They're already looking for radio signals from it, but even if a civilisation is at our level of development we wouldn't know it for another 1400 years...
