Celethiel Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 http://news.yahoo.com/earth-planet-discovered-using-nasas-kepler-space-telescope-165743211.html They found a new earth-like planet. 1
Bill W Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 It will be interesting to see what else they might be able to discover about it. Since it's sun is 1.5 billion years older than our sun, if the planet is inhabitable, is it far more developed than our own or did it miss the ingredient that sparks life? I can't wait to see what they learn.
JamesSavik Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Keep in mind when they say earth-like, they mean rocky and relatively the same size. Past that point, anything goes. It could be an iceberg, another Venus or have no atmosphere at all.

It's just a matter of pointing a spectrometer in the right direction and they'll be able to see if there's water, what the atmosphere is composed of etc. They're already looking for radio signals from it, but even if a civilisation is at our level of development we wouldn't know it for another 1400 years... 2
Drew Espinosa Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 I always get excited seeing something discovered in our universe I marvel at the number of earth-like planets, although I will always stick with the one and only Earth; my home 1
Uziel Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Interesting. Although, I sometimes wonder What happens when we finally find another planet with civilization?
Drew Espinosa Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Interesting. Although, I sometimes wonder What happens when we finally find another planet with civilization? Either the best or worst thing imaginable... I'll choose to believe the former
