Jason D. Karl Posted August 20, 2025 Posted August 20, 2025 My stories are human-written, and I'm not interested in reading AI-generated stories. That said, I haven't been able to find what this site's policy is on AI-generated images for stories (e.g., cover or character images). Could someone please give me a link to such a policy or just explain what is and isn't allowed in terms of AI images? 1 Quote
Site Administrator Myr Posted August 20, 2025 Site Administrator Posted August 20, 2025 The only policy that pertains to images is Copyright. We have not set an AI rule beyond that. So far as I understand, AI generated images are more or less fair game. @Cia can weigh in though. 1 Quote
Jason D. Karl Posted August 20, 2025 Author Posted August 20, 2025 Myr, I believe the latest rule by the US Copyright Office (which has been held up in court) on AI-generated content is that it cannot be copyrighted by anyone, and that for works containing mixes of human and AI content, the human-created portion is copyrightable and the AI portion is not. And, of course, there is the issue of fair use vs. compensation with training the models that has yet to be resolved. 1 Quote
Site Administrator Solution Cia Posted August 20, 2025 Site Administrator Solution Posted August 20, 2025 What Myr is referring to is that our Stories Archive automatically creates a copyright notice for content posted to the archive. Therefore if you are including images that were AI generated to your story, that could be interpreted as adding those under your copyrighted content. I always recommend that only images authors own (self-created, purchased rights, or creative commons) are added to Stories content, with no AI generated images directly added to your stories archive content (cover art/banners). If you want to use those images you can put them in the gallery and then link to your album. It is a workaround that avoids any legal complications. 1 Quote
Jason D. Karl Posted August 20, 2025 Author Posted August 20, 2025 Thanks for the clarification. Would it be allowable to simply put some author's note to effect of "If anyone's wants to see AI-generated images of my characters, here is a link" and then give a link to some site such as postimages.org? I'm gathering that the answer is "no" because it's to a different site. But, just for clarity. Quote

Though if the site has porn on it or illegal things then that becomes an issue. (Note that your profile, author profile and Words all have offsite link locations) 1 Quote
