    Chapter 3

This story is really picking up momentum. I look forward to new developments with Dallas since the character seems so complex. I worry about Timmy and his merry gang of morons. That type of bully doesn't take being rebuked very well, and they often strike back more vicious and well away from the eyes of authority.

    Chapter 1

This is a powerful story. Those who survived those dark days need to keep the memory alive, and those who came after need to hear about the fight.

    Good Evening

I like the sound of this.... "I knew quite clearly that if necessary, Luther was indeed capable of being very rough." Can't wait!

    Chapter 1

This is all familiar territory to me even though this is a non-US setting. Been there, done that, got the emotional scars as a souvenir. Very well presented, and I look forward to future installments. Can't wait to uncover the backstory with Dallas!
  13. Interesting! Is the lawyer a shyster in flip flops or a free spirit ready to bring the establishment down? I look forward to finding out.
  14. The After Below Deck — An Hour Before Departure The candlelight flickered against the varnished bulkhead of the midshipmen's berth, casting long shadows. Blake packed his things into the chest with too much care to be casual. A quiet knock sounded. “Enter,” he said, expecting the purser. Instead, Lieutenant Adams stepped inside, ducking slightly beneath the low beam. His presence filled the cramped space, calm and collected as always. “I heard you're bound for the Abso

This is wonderful. I have spent so many evenings drinking "something that tasted like liquid confidence mixed with dissolved regret"!

  19. I am enjoying this story. When you mention "...and some by a 20th century Czech composer called Martinu whose music was new to him," I wondered if you are thinking here of the Three Madrigals.? A nice shoutout to an neglected master!

    Prologue

Thank you! I was thinking that a sailor caught by a Royal Navy press gang would be a great story, and then I remembered that scoundrel, Melville, already stole that for Billy Budd.
  21. *Hampshire, 1823* As he did every morning at precisely nine o’clock, William Pitt left the cottage he leased in a seaside village not far from Portsmouth to walk with his dog, Apollo, down the high street to the strand. A tall, lean man of about forty-five, with a handsome, sun-darkened face, he eyed the blustery skies and assured the dog that a blow was coming from the southeast. Two years into retirement, Pitt still walked like a man used to the quarterdeck’s pitch and roll. He was a
  22. Red sky at morning ## A Shot Across the Bow ## In the year of our Lord 1808, Midshipman Blake came aboard His Majesty’s sloop Vigilant like a shot across the bow, young, bright, and eager to be taken seriously. He was eighteen, lean but broad-shouldered, with sun-shot curls and eyes the colour of storm-lit sea. His uniform, freshly tailored, fit his frame with a natural elegance that made seasoned officers glance twice and junior midshipmen look away too quickly. He moved with qu
