    Another beautiful chapter full of shared moments. I have to say that I would never have dared to bring a boyfriend and his Korean dumplings to my middle-class WASP family's barbecue. The ensuing donnybrook as we each fought to snarf down the lion's share would have entered family lore for generations. Christian's EMT training would have been useful. Also tamales. And batata vadas.

    This is such a fantastic view of Spain under the Franco regime. I have second hand anxiety from all the stress Ximo is under. After Admiral Carrero Blanco's automobile was blown 20 meters in the air and over the church, Spaniards reacted with their typical mordant humor, "Spain has it's first astronaut." The government's reaction was somewhat less jovial.

    Interesting chapter, and I look forward to reading more. It sounds like Ryan behaved very badly before the story started, and I am not sure if he is the villain of the piece or just an incidental character whose role is now complete.
