Happy Friday, Y'all!!!!! Hope everyone is looking forward to the weekend, I know I am! To help start your weekend off right, it's time for some new prompts. Hopefully one of these great prompts will inspire you, and don't forget to share your responses (at least a link) so that they can possibly be featured next week. Also, as always, remember that prompt responses under 1K have to be posted as part of a collection.

    Prompt 512 – Creative
    Tag – List of words
Use the following in a story – a snake, a thunderstorm, a muffled cry, a pink flower, and a towel.

    Prompt 513 – Creative
    Tag – Marked for Death
You have been having issues with your roommates. It has only gotten worse when you won the lottery last week. Needing some time to yourself you go for a drive. As you begin to head toward the mountains as you usually do, your brakes fail. Luckily, you just had a minor accident, but the mechanic tells you the brakes were cut. Who is trying to kill you?

For this week, I decided to feature the responses from Prompt #510:

    Author Interviews
I can't believe it's already July and that the year is half over!!! Not only that, but it's the first Wednesday of the month, which can only mean one thing. It's time for another Ask An Author feature provided to us by Dark. If you have questions you want to ask your favorite authors, but don't want to ask the questions yourself, you can always send your questions to Dark for inclusion in the Ask An Author feature.

    Ask an Author #40

Welcome back to another quirky question and answer session with your favorite authors!

In AtA #39, we had questions for authors Billy Martin, Dayne Mora, and Mark Arbour.

In AtA #40, we hear from authors Cole Matthews, M.A. Church, Riley Jericho, and Carlos Hazday.

Just shy of his three-year anniversary on GA, Cole Matthews joined the ranks of our Signature Authors. While this may be his first appearance in this blog, his new story Third Shift is already generating discussion and interest in the forums. Which, by the way, is where Cole has posted a fantastic intro to the story, so go check it out. With more than 5,000 likes and 26 stories, this boy is not slowing down anytime soon! I remember when he first started posting on the collaborative project Gaia Town. Setting up and organizing that project was fascinating to watch. What you may not know about him is that he’s something of a gardening maniac who has recently experimented with making his own jam/jelly. Those cookies he posted in his blog from the antique cookbook are also pretty good, but if you really want to know Cole, then you’ll read The Second Fifty, an autobiography of his life. It’s a must-read.

To Cole Matthews: Did you enjoy writing your most recent murder mystery, and do you plan a second?

I love murder mysteries, thrillers, and suspense stories. In fact, they are my favorite stories to read. I always thought my first novel would be that genre. I realized early on, I needed to practice writing dialogue, exploring characters, and establishing a voice first. Creating Barbed Wire Heart was a wonderful experience which allowed me to exercise those skills. I learned how to craft the clues and false leads more easily after becoming more proficient. I am working on more thriller shorts for anthology stories. In addition, I'm working on a suspense novel called Perdido Key, which will be set in Florida and not in Minnesota for once!
Next up is popular fiction writer M.A. Church. She has been a member of GA for about five and a half years now, but early on started branching out into the online publishing genre. You may remember her from her original nom de plume “nomoretears.” She only claimed herself on GA two years ago and though she’s never said, I think it had to do with her rising popularity in the published world. Did you know she’s been mentioned in the Rainbow Awards twice now? She can also be found at Dreamspinner and All Romance Books. Check out her profile on Goodreads or her blog to see what she’s been up to lately. Of her five stories on GA, my favorite is In Enemy Hands. Of course, I’m a huge sci-fi fan, so those who know me will not be surprised by that. Like many, my favorite character is Adler. I think a lot of my love for him comes from the way MA Church writes his interactions with his brother. I also love the slow build-up between the main characters and between the supporting cast. There’s a lot of cleverly-hidden details and it’s always fascinating to see how characters navigate culture differences. There’s a lot M.A. Church has planned for 2016, so check-in with her often to see what’s new!

To M.A. Church: Did someone have talk you into posting your stories for the public to read or did you decide yourself?

I decided after reading several stories at a place called Literotica to try my hand at writing. After a few stories were posted, comments were left encouraging me to publish. I finally decided if the Christmas story I’d written for their Winter Contest placed, I’d try to find a publisher. A Tah’Narian Christmas came in first, lol. Not long after that I submitted a story to Dreamspinner Press. So basically, thanks to the encouragement from my fans at Lit, I started down the path as a published author.
While it did not work out to include the next question into special edition #33, British Author Riley Jericho remains popular here on GA. He promises that his long-running narrative An English Teen... is finished! He’s just got to add the last chapters to the site. I’m sure his fans will be both relieved and disappointed. As with many people, real-life can often find a way to interfere with writing, but Riley has persevered, a feat not to be undervalued. Andy Q Gordon continues to work with Riley on ET, and at over 100,000 reads, it’s a partnership that’s definitely working. I wonder what Riley will work on next?

To Riley Jericho: What made you decide to write m/m fiction?

That's a good question, and I'm not sure I know. I guess I just thought I'd have a go. I read a lot, I love words. I thought, 'Well how hard could it be?' Jeez—what an idiot!
Starting with this blog entry, I decided to shake things up just a little and feature 4 authors every month in honor of this being the 4th year of the blog series.
Today’s 4th and final author is Carlos Hazday. He says that his blog question and answer will expire soon, so it made sense to start here. When I asked him this time if he wanted to participate, he said, “How could I not be up for it? I was the one who complained when your blog was pre-empted this month, remember?” Which of course I had forgotten. We’ve had a couple of questions for Carlos over the years; you might remember him talking about reader feedback, but those of you who frequent his forums already know how interactive they are. But for those of you crying over the ending to the latest in the CJ series, see below:

To Carlos Hazday: I love the CJ series. What's next for CJ and his crew?

There are two timelines concerning CJ running parallel in my mind. One is the story being posted on GA which is currently two years behind the real world. Spring ended as summer vacation was about to start in 2014. The second timeline is the one which tracks events taking place afterwards and through today. I have those events chronicled in outline form and will flesh them out into a story. Soon.

I dislike stories which are abandoned or are posted on a very irregular schedule and don't want to fall into that pit. I am working on TRAVELS, the fifth book in the series but will not begin posting until it's entirely written. My fearless editor is also quite busy over the next couple of months, and not wanting to train a new one, I've decided to give him a break. I'm all heart, aren't I? Mann was fearless when he agreed to work with a rookie like me and his assistance has been priceless; the story is much better than it would have been without his input. I'll beg him to continue helping me once the book is at least halfway written.

So no promises on when you'll read about the trips most of the major characters embark on during the summer of 2014, but rest assured there's more to come.
That’s it for now! For more info on these authors, go check out their stories, post in their forums, and/or catch them in chat!

See you next time, with authors Headstall, mikiesboy, Sammy Blue, and Sasha Distan.

I’m always in the market for new questions! Simply PM me (Dark).

    Until next time!

Series Excerpt: From The Degan Incident

I stepped off the magtrain and made my way up the concourse, pushing my way through the crowds of people. I looked up at one of the wall displays and noted the time. I was cutting it close, but I still had a few minutes before my shift.

While weaving between a trio of blue-skinned aliens speaking in a foreign tongue, I reached into the pocket of my uniform and pulled my headset out. I looped it over my ear and pressed the silicone nub into my ear canal. I pulled my comPad from the side leg pocket, then slid my finger across the razor-thin flexi-glass screen. The screen came to life with colorful graphics, waiting to scan my thumbprint to log me in. Pressing my thumb against the indicated area flashing on the screen, it dinged with a chime that indicated success, and automatically linked up my headset and signed into the Spaceport network. After the chime, the pleasant female computer voice announced into my ear, Devin McSmith; login successful.

With another swipe of my finger, I flipped through my day’s manifest and headed to the first gate on my list to start work.

It was the start of my last shift of the week at Spaceport Prime. I loved working at the spaceport. In operation for nearly thirty years, Spaceport Prime was the largest spaceport on Earth’s North American continent. The Spaceport serviced regular shuttles to Spacedock Luna in orbit around the moon, various Union Navy cruisers and shuttles, as well as ships from other star systems.

Since Earth joined the Galactic Planetary Union which ended the bloody war with the Mirans, the space trade industry here has grown by leaps and bounds. I feel like I am part of it, right in the middle of everything. Since I was a little boy, I wanted to join the Union Navy. More than anything, I dreamed of flying through space as part of a crew of interstellar explorers.

Unfortunately my scores weren’t high enough to qualify entrance and the Union Navy recruiter denied my application.

    Featured Stories
Being the start of a new week, Monday's are also a good time to take a look at some of the different stories that can be found on Gay Authors. With so many great works, it can be easy to overlook one and Monday's provide an opportunity for us to help make one of them stand out and maybe catch your interest. Today, we're bringing you a review by Timothy M. of Puppilull's story Thaw. Enjoy!

    Thaw

    Puppilull

    Reviewer: Timothy M.

    Status: Complete

    Word Count: 59,856

I like blond hunks with blue eyes, and even better if they’re upright and silent men in uniform. Naturally, I was hooked immediately when I started reading Thaw which is set in the northern part of Sweden and features a strong, tall, lonely policeman named Joel. After the first chapter readers were wondering who Puppilull would find for the man who’s also a talented hockey player. If I had been 25 years younger, I’d volunteer to travel to Kiruna near the Polar circle.

The second chapter introduces chatty, charming Lucas, a lawyer from the US, who ends up in Kiruna after a string of unlucky circumstances. I’m not going to tell you how he meets Joel, but there something very Scandinavian involved. As a Dane I can understand the few Swedish phrases Puppilull has sprinkled around the text to give it that unique local flavor, but don’t worry, you’ll be fine even if you only know the word IKEA.

At first, Joel and Lucas dance around each other, wondering whether the other man is gay and attracted too. It takes a hot sauna and some determination on Lucas’ part to get things going, and then the scene is set for various surprising developments. I’m not going to tell you any details, to avoid spoiling the story, but there is snow, a dog, beer, lube, hockey, painting, Northern lights and boots involved. The boots and other interesting matters are included as a courtesy to or teasing of the GA author who inspired Puppilull to write Thaw. She even managed to make him blush !

There are several reasons I like this story, apart from the fact it was written by a fellow Scandinavian, Meta Wolf addict and GA friend. The contrast in character in the two men, although they both have the same core of ‘lawful good’ inside. The fact they are both out and accepted by family, friends and colleagues, but still manage to fumble around when it comes to flirting and relationships. The writing is good, sensible and without unnecessary angsty drama – in spite a couple of cliff hangers which made us fans moan and grumble. The sex – well, I’ll let you discover those parts for yourself, but at least one reader had to buy a new laptop because the hotness made her old one melt.

Go make the acquaintance of Joel and Lucas, I promise you won’t regret it. When you are done with Thaw, you’ll be happy to know the sequel Frost has already started to post. There is a joint story topic where you can ask questions, discuss with fellow readers, and give Puppilull ideas about what you would like to see in the ongoing saga of the Swedish policeman and his playful American visitor. She loves getting reviews and always replies, and I think she deserves them too, what with being 9th on the list of Most Prolific Reviewers. But of course most of all for writing a story which engages our hearts, making us laugh, cry and rant.

However, you will be paid approximately ten million dollars. The other job keeps you in the countryside, never far from anything, with other partner you love. Author Interviews
I'm back! Did you miss me? A huge thank you to AJ, Cia, Steve, and Slytherin for helping cover me while I was gone. It was much appreciated. Speaking of being back, Ask An Author is returning to start the month off right! Ask An Author is one of our most popular blog features, and I want to give a huge THANK YOU to Dark for supplying us month after month. Now, lets see what Dark has for us this month!

    Ask an Author #39

Welcome back to another quirky question and answer session with your favorite authors!

In AtA #38, we had questions for authors Andrew Q Gordon, Sammy Blue, and Valkyrie.

In AtA #39, we hear from authors Billy Martin, Dayne Mora, and the return of Mark Arbour.

Our first author today calls the Appalachian Mountains of the U.S. home. With two stories and two poetry collections, Billy Martin is more than the simply country boy we knew way back in 2011. He’s well-versed in current events and many of you have debated with him over politics, so perhaps some of that will shine through in the new story he’s working on now that Trials & Tribulations is completed. Can’t forget about The Field of Love, either. According to Billy, these two stories will eventually merge into one storyline. I have always wondered how close Andy Collins (and friends) is to the reality of Billy’s life … and now we’ve got an insight into Sammy. I confess that when I first saw the title, I flashed instantly to the Kevin Costner movie “Field of Dreams.” The fact that Billy’s story is also about baseball hooked me, even though I’m not generally a fan of teenage dramas. For now, I’ll wait on that update notification and continue rolling my eyes at the back-stabbing and politicking of small towns.

To Billy Martin: What has been your favourite character you have written?

Not that I have a lot of characters to choose from, but I would have to say that Roger, Andy's best friend from Trials and Tribulations is my favorite. If I'm allowed, in future chapters I will give him more depth and explore why he is such a good friend to Andy. I think we all need a best friend like Roger in our lives to help us off the floor when life knocks us down and celebrate the awesome experiences that will come our way as well. Don't get me wrong, I love Andy and Joey, not to mention the Judge, but there's nothing like a rock solid friend. I have a friend like that and he has always been there for me just like Roger has for Andy and I guess I've molded Roger after my very own best friend.
Dayne Mora is today’s next author, though some of you may know him from the additional job he’s picked up: Chat Moderator. Dayne and I have a few things in common; we’re both American high school teachers, though I don’t have half the essays to read that he does, and we both have fur-babies. Of course, Dayne has a hubby to share the babies with. We both also enjoy Publix and Weird Al. I recently saw Weird Al on TV … I was visiting my mom and she was watching “Celebrity Name Game” and told me that Weird Al was a really good player – apparently he’s on the show a lot… The things you don’t know about your favorite celebrities, eh? But back to Dayne… Did you know that "Efrain and Cory" has a new name? It’s now called Wolf like Me and I hear there’s a sequel … looks pointedly at Dayne … If you haven’t yet read about these two college kids yet, the interactions between the friends are well worth it. There’s angst of course, but also humor, and the dialogue is so engaging you eat up the chapters before you realize it.

To Dayne Mora: What do you like to write the most and what made you take the leap into posting stories here on GA?

I love writing humor. It doesn't matter what genre or mode I'm working in, I can't stop the giggles from seeping in. I mean, I can try to keep a straight face, but it doesn't last long enough to justify the effort. It's so bad that my poor professors had to deal with my odd sense of humor. And lets not even talk about my lesson plans (when I actually write them, that is).

Defiance19 sent me a message back in December recommending GA if I wanted to cast a wider net, and I joined pretty much immediately.
And now let’s welcome back Signature Author Mark Arbour. It’s been over 10 years since Mark ventured onto what is now called GA and he’s still one of our most popular authors. Could it be his writing style? The myriads of different characters? The dynamics of the forums? The weekly updates? CAP is now 16 books long, a family dynasty as long-lasting as any soap opera, and Bridgemont is on book 7. Each of these series has its own fanatic supporters, and that doesn’t include the other things Mark gets involved with on the site. And although this article is now coming out after Mark’s birthday, he won’t hold it against you for some belated tidings. After all, when you’re as old as he is, each year is a triumph, right? With Black Widow now carrying the CAP series into the current century, eventually Mark will have to write about Obama … dunno if that’s good for an old guy’s blood pressure or heart, so, c’mon, folks, for the sake of Mark’s heart, let’s not add onto those 24,000 likes, okay? We don’t want him to keel over early. Like that word play, Mark? Now let’s get to the next chapter in Granger’s legacy and nobody’ll get hurt!

To Mark Arbour: You are an accurate story-teller of historical events, which I've assumed from reading many of your stories. Your characters are also very believable, with or without their having sex. Question: If you could ask one of your historical people a question, what would you want to know and why?

I'm going to change this question, and I'm going to make it two people. That seems fair, since I have two series. In the Bridgemont Series, the key character is George Granger. If I could ask George anything, I'd ask him who he considered his one true love to be. George is not a one-partner kind of guy, and much like the 17th/18th century society that he lives in, he's very hierarchical. He tends to array his lovers in pyramid format. At the end of the day, I'd want to know who ended up on top, so to speak.

For the CAP Series, I'd tap into the father of the series, JP Crampton. I'd ask JP what decision/thing in his life he would have changed? He tends to bury his guilt and spend much too much time on self-recrimination, but at the end of the day, when he looks back, I would be curious about where he thought he'd made his biggest mistake. And I doubt that it would be the most obvious one.
Now, as a little bonus, how about a bit from yours truly? Like the last question I answered in this blog, I’ve received a variety of questions all wondering similar things…

To Dark: Is there a story behind how you chose "Dark" as a nom de plume?

Sadly, no. It was a combination of things. I felt that I had outgrown my childhood nickname and was still struggling with my personal identity, and I was joining a bunch of different sites with different names, hoping that one would stick. I did sort of like part of one I was using to role-play with, so when I came to GA, I tried it and voila! No one had taken it, and thus “Dark” was born! It’s hard to think of myself as something else now, so I know it was the right choice.
That’s it for now! For more info on these authors, go check out their stories, post in their forums, and/or catch them in chat!
See you next time, with authors Cole Mathews, MA Church, and Riley Jericho.

I’m always in the market for new questions! Simply PM me (Dark).

    Until next time!

So this week, I had to set up the prompts from comicfan a little early, because I'll be out of town. (Ha! I'm not even here and yet I'm still doing the prompts, go me!). I'll be featuring the responses to Prompt #500 today, but if you did the prompt and it's not posted here, it's nothing against you, it's just that it wasn't up before I set up the blog post. Feel free to share them in the comments if you'd like. Don't forget, that if you post your prompt responses in GA stories, anything under 1,000 words cannot be posted by itself and must be done as part of a collection. Now, let's look at the prompts!

    Prompt 502 – Creative
    Tag – List of Words
Use the following words in a story : a cop, a statue, a ship, a pink ribbon, a bag of candy.

I hope everyone had a great weekend and is ready to start the new week. To help your week get started off right, we have a new featured story for you to take a look at. Whether you read or write, you most likely know Headstall and not only does Headstall write, but he reads and reviews a lot of other authors' work. Today it's Headstall's turn in the limelight, with this review of Song and Dance provided to us by LitLover. Hope you enjoy!

    Song and Dance

    Headstall

    Word Count: 39,098

Song and Dance is a companion story to Headstall’s, Cards on the Table. If you haven’t read up to Chapter 17 of CotT, this review will contain spoilers.

Headstall, or Gary as many of his readers know him, is a self-proclaimed romantic, and one of the things I love is that the men in his stories unabashedly embrace their own romantic sides. SaD’s Chet and Arron are perfect examples of these types of men.

Song and Dance is a story about two men learning to trust hearts that have gotten them hurt in the past, and taking a leap of faith. As the title says, life is a song and dance… it’s a matter of finding the right partner. SaD evoked many emotions from the readers. There were tears, and heartache, but there was also laughter, and happiness as we watched both men grow and heal. A few times there was even yelling at my screen (I still think Ian needed a kick in the behind), but mostly, there was romance as Chet and Arron moved away from their pasts, and figured out what it meant to be loved.

In the first chapter of SaD we catch up with Chet, Kendall’s new friend from Cards on the Table. Chet hasn’t had much luck with relationships, and is extremely lonely. Kendall, who’s been lovingly dubbed ‘Saint Kendall’ by many, doesn’t like the fact that his friend is alone, and wants to help him meet someone. Kendall and his reluctant partner Michael conspire to have Chet meet Michael’s co-worker Arron. Arron, a police officer, is just as lonely as Chet, and has had his own misfortunes in love.

Kendall’s plans are derailed when Chet and Arron meet on their own and realize their friends are trying to set them up on a blind date. The rest of the story follows these two men as they learn about love, commitment, trust… and plotting revenge on interfering friends.

If you are the least bit romantic, I encourage you to read Song and Dance. I know it’s on my “to read again and again” list.

When I originally wrote up the Prompt Me blog, I have to say I was a little bummed that no one took up the Special Prompt that I gave for Friday the 13th. Then, later last night, Valkyrie saved the day when she posted one, so I just had to include it! On another note, did anyone else notice that we've reached 500 prompts?! In celebration of that, I decided to share ALL prompt responses that have been written in the last week. Enjoy!

    Poetry Prompt #20
Write three Found Poems on the themes of 'Loss,' 'Memory,' and 'Celebration.' Your source material is The Dead, by James Joyce. You may decide if you wish to explore metre in your poem or not, or rhymes to accent certain parts. You may also wish to consider using a repeating section as a refrain. Let your imagination run free, as long as you allow the three principal themes to guide your creation of three freestanding works. You can learn more about Found Poetry in the thread.

    Series Excerpt: From Taken

I was seventeen when the aliens first appeared, so my parents assumed I was safe. The final collection would occur before I turned twenty-three. I didn’t fall within the guidelines the aliens had established, so I thought I had nothing to fear.

    I was wrong.

Exactly one week before my twenty-third birthday, an extraction team showed up to collect me. My parents were distraught, and I fought them, but nothing stopped them from taking me. Somebody somewhere had made a terrible mistake. But no one would listen to me.

“I’m not supposed to be collected!” Men in SWAT gear dragged me to a waiting van. One of the aliens stood off to the side, watching. I dug my feet into the ground, trying to halt the parade of their progress. Two human soldiers were beside me, trying to secure my arms behind my back, but I kept twisting and jerking, frantic to break their hold on me. “Listen to me! I’m only twenty-two years old.”

“Son of a bitch, stop jumping around, you little fag,” the man to the right of me hissed as he grabbed at my wrist and twisted.

“Fuck!” I yelled as pain radiated up my arm. I managed to get my other arm free long enough to get in a good solid shot at the asshole who was currently trying to twist my hand off. I busted his nose. Anger boiled in his eyes as he whipped his arm back to strike me.

Before the blow could land, the Tah’Narian with the extraction team jerked the man away from me by the front of his shirt. Another human took his team member’s place immediately, but my focus was on the alien, not the other man holding my arm.

Monday, Monday, Monday. What could we possibly have for you on a Monday? Oh yeah! We have a new featured story for you. Looking back over the featured story reviews I’ve done, I realize they tend to revolve around story content or characters which annoy or upset readers. Maybe this is because such stories make more of an impression, or maybe I just like ranting in reviews after I read chapters. In any case, the subject of this review certainly fits the bill.

Indeed, Red Running Shoes may take the prize as the tale which has sparked the most intense reactions so far. It had readers leaving incensed reviews and arguing heatedly in the story discussion forum. Not everyone agreed with Aditus about the way the story ended, and there were plenty of shouting and at the characters during the unfolding of events.

I have to admit it took me a while to start reading RRS. I was put off by the story description outlining the main character of Jonah who is ‘quirky, irrational, impulsive, talks to Zach, his imaginary laptop friend, collects people who want to take care of him, and slightly possessive, manipulative boyfriends.’ Most of all the word irrational gave me severe doubts, but I decided to trust Aditus and my GA friends who seemed to enjoy the story. Did I regret this decision? No, I guess not... in spite of all the and

Once I took the plunge, I was quickly caught up in the magic Aditus weaves. Jonah was betrayed and hurt by someone he loved and trusted, and his reaction was to run away to another city/country. As the story starts, he returns and tries to pick up his life. He longs for love but is scared of another broken heart. The author makes us engage ourselves in Jonah and the people around him, we hope the best and fear the worst, as we alternately laugh and curse over his antics.

There are some wonderful people in Jonas’ life but I think my favorite is the Sicilian hat maker and photographer who plays a crucial role in the story. In fact, the description of the landscape and the food in Sicily has me eager to go there on vacation. That reminds me: While reading the story please make sure to have your favorite snacks available, since Aditus’ detailed descriptions of delicious meals will probably make you crave food as well as wine or coffee.

If you like romance rollercoasters, RRS is worth trying. I guarantee all your emotions will be played upon. And the image of a dove tattoo will stay with you forever.

    Featured Stories
Welcome to a new week and a new featured story. Today we're looking at the 4th book in JohnAR's MetaWolf series, MetaBattles.

    MetaBattles

    by

    JohnAR

MetaBattles, the fourth book in the MetaWolf series by JohnAR, picks up right where Book three, MetaShadowlands left off.

If you are unfamiliar with the series, Books 1-3 will catch you up with an insecure Meta, Colt, who is bossy, nerdy, quick-witted, and brilliant. He counsels (and more) his pack of eight gay, very sexy, very hunky Inner Circle wolves led by a seemingly submissive Alpha. The Inner Circle wolves each have a scent that is recognizable to Colt, (their scents play a vital part to the storyline). They live with the constant threat of devious vampires who want their Meta dead or captured. There is a bounty on Colt, so for good measure throw in Fate, who is a person or persons manipulating events and people so that a prophecy could be fulfilled or fail to come to pass. Can you already tell this is not your normal wolf/vampire story?

I was more than anxious to begin MetaBattles which as the name suggests, meant there was a war coming. Book 4 opens with our Meta in handcuffs, and not in a good way because someone has yet again betrayed the pack. The tension builds immediately, but it is not so easy to keep a Meta down and in the process of his liberation we meet Warren, the 8th Inner Circle wolf. I have a particular fondness for Warren but not to worry, you will discover your favorite too.

The burning question at the end of Book 3, ‘what happened to the Alpha?’ is finally answered. JAR came close to being tarred and feathered, but I will say it was worth the wait when it all came to light. You will find that there are answers to some open ended questions, but these only lead to more questions. I caution you here, that in the Metaverse, nothing is as it seems. Those never ending questions drove the plot to some of the most twisty, mind numbing scenarios and cliffhangers, always leaving me wanting more, but having to wait impatiently for the next posting.

Let's not forget, there is a battle brewing. The Inner Circle wolves were growing, getting bigger, faster and stronger with the very unique help of their Meta.(The realisation of what it could be is very intriguing) The wolves are planning strategically, arming themselves with knowledge of their enemies, seeking out alliances in other packs. The Meta is cunningly amassing finances, and fight training with military precision is in full force Colt included. The politics and brokerage between the packs’ Alphas added to the realism and showcased the play for allegiance and power. No one could really be trusted. Not wolves or humans, who managed somehow to be on the take for vampires. They proved to be relentless in the pursuit of the pack and Colt. Some of those scenes were written particularly well, evoking images and emotions as if I were actually there.

The vampires weren't sitting idly by either. They assembled from across the globe; nine Vampire Queens for their own decisive planning. There was also the matter of Colt. Some of the Queens had an agenda in that regard and there is some manipulation within the group. It promised to be a bloody, ruthless battle. The closer we got to the battle, the more alarming the vampire agenda became. Would the wolves be ready? Did they have enough fighters? Who would win in a war between Wolves and Vampires? What would happen to the Meta? Would the vampires succeed in their plans for him? Who would survive? Would I? Because surely at this point losing wolves I had come to care for, was a startling fact.

In the midst of this turmoil, JAR skillfully transitions and brings us back from the edge and we see the very human side to the wolves and the effect the looming war is having on them. A conflicted Colt continues to struggle with the love vs. scent attraction which has plagued him. He questions his worth and usefulness to the pack, even as he worried about the real possibility of losing any of his wolves to war. It leads to very introspective discussions with the wolves, and even more passionate debates on the Meta forum. As I learnt more about the origin of Colt’s insecurities, I found myself sympathizing more which was a departure from wanting to strangle him in previous books. There was also a deeper connection to the characters. They could almost be people we know, which made them relatable and I believed the characters as people. This is another reason I couldn't turn away from MetaBattles. Instances like this made me forget that this was actually fiction.

Tender is not a word I would use to describe wolves. Yet, there are times when JAR gives us just that. I dare you not to cry when the wolves celebrate Christmas or when they gather the night before battle, or when they bring Colt back from near death after another attempt on his life. That scene provided a fascinating visual of a werewolf shift in midair that is forever imprinted in my memory. Other scenes, like the wolves and Colt walking into a barn to mingle with the rest of the outer circle pack, and the speeches to the battle ready wolves, were also very impactful. Honestly, there's more but I can't give it all away!

There are so many reasons why MetaBattles is a must read. JAR challenges the reader. You will laugh, you will cry, you will rage, you might want to hunt down the author, but you will want to keep going. There is the supernatural, what with the shamans, owl tokens and wolf shifters, and the vampires. There are kernels of mythology, undercurrents of psychological tenets and maybe, no, definitely romance. There is sex, and the sex is explosive and primal. The story encompasses all of this, and makes no excuses for politically incorrect stances, all of which makes it a very engrossing read. Each chapter is structured to build upon the next moving forward measuredly, and tie into the MetaPrompts, which gives us even more obscure hints and clues into the past and future of Colt, the wolves and the vampires.

MetaBattles and the MetaWolf series are not for the faint of heart. Thrilling, as it is complex it defies the norm, it will provoke you. There is inevitable tragedy in MetaBattles and it is a maddening hunt for clues, none of which seem to point you in the right direction. But, it consistently leaves you thinking and feeling long after the chapter is done. If you want a satisfying and engaging story look no further, go on and give it a try. Continue the journey with MetaBattles or start from the beginning with Meta. Then join us in the forum to rant and speculate. You won't regret it.

I hope everyone has had a great week! If you ever miss what's happened in the news blog, you can always tune into the Weekly Wrap Up to find out what you missed. Thank you to everyone who responded to my plea for reviews. Don't forget, if you've read a story that you'd like to see featured in the blog, send me a PM. I use one or two reviews a month, so it might take a bit for your review to show up, but it's great to have reviews waiting in the wing, and at least eventually your favorite stories will get their day in the blog.
