Thanks! There is an end in sight, but I’m not sure how that will equate to how many chapters are left. We’re in the home stretch! at the beginning of my writing, I read a ton of Mark Arbour’s stuff. Check it out. I’d also ask some of the commentors here who else they read. mad for additional content, most of my work is here on GA. It’s a valid critique. Honestly I didn’t realize how much I would be able to cram into this ‘year’. And maybe if I were to republish this, I’d shorten some of the side stories and streamline the stuff that gets repeated. The story does come to a natural end soon… hopefully it isn’t a too long scenario, but I do want to give all of the emotion in the final stretch the same treatment they deserves.

That’s fair. I’m always surprised with this work, even as the author, at how the events from 14 years ago still resonate, even from the time I started writing it 12 years ago. I can’t spoil anything while this story takes its natural end as a ‘chapter’ or slice of life, but there are events after the technical ‘English year’ that could make for another story. Who’s still around… you’ll have to find out I guess

I mean a very fair point about Mike. There’s so much there, and remember he’s thought all of this up while in solitary. It might not be so easy when it’s ‘real’ but we shall see. Also when Pete sees what he was left behind for, what will his reaction look like?

Mike has strong arms. So strong that it’s easy to forget everything around when you are in his embrace. They are so strong that they can shield you from the rest of the world, physically and metaphorically. They can physically squeeze the pressure or strain of any and everything that could potentially bother you. I really really appreciate this comment. I think it’s valid to ask is Corbin the catch in these scenarios. I’d say at this point he’s at a low, but when he’s charming he’s pretty charming. You’re right, writing this in hindsight with the luxury of maturity and growth, my goal is to always portray Corbin flaws and all, and work towards the eventual outcome. A lot of the story is autobiographical with some embellishment for dramatic flair, but these characters made these decisions and my goal is to realistically, but dramatically, tell the tale. Thanks for the comments and amazing questions. I think Alex sees an opportunity to break a story that will come out at some point anyway. She gets to call the shots on the roll out, even if it is behind Corbin’s crazy scheme. Chip found Claire and eventually took her in to the health center. A lot more story to come soon (just sent some work over to be edited). Thanks for following!

Reading this reminded me of the Miranda Priestly four failed marriages speech in Devil Wears Prada. These aren’t easy choices to make, and I’m hopeful I can portray the agony Corbin goes through as he makes these choices.

I’d say in this particular chapter tornado is putting it mildly. We’ll see if and how he’s able to regroup after this one. I’m stealing that last sentence.

I don’t think you’re wrong regarding Corbin telling Pete a fluffed you version of the truth, and it goes to show their trust levels. But in his mind, in order to accomplish something like this, the distraction wasn’t worth it. Plus I think Corbin has always kind of felt Pete has a bit of a moral edge on him. We’ll see how it plays out (I already know, but still lol). And Alex is definitely a bad ass and basically where Corbin gets it from, being a big influence and a year older.
