I remember when I first read the trio. I don't remember connecting the dots, probably because I didn't read the stories, in order.
This time, when I got to Nightfall, it brought back not just the memories that it did the first time but more, since I read it in order this time.
I remember how GIRD scared so many of us. Years later, when they started calling it HIV and then AIDS, I remember a few friends whose hands I held until the end. Friends I held while they cried for all the lost time... Yes, for many of us, we had our chosen family because our born into family rejected us.
Now, at 73, it still hurts to remember. It hurts that I've outlived all of my family. Today, I can smile, however. We had time.
