Family isn't always what you are born into. Sometimes, your family is the collection of people who care and love you, just for being you. That is what I wanted to tell with this tale. Hopefully it came across that way.

Wow, even forgot it was Friday the 13th. Glad you enjoyed my story Aditus. It was something I sort of worked and reworked, but just managed to squeak it in. So far everyone seems satisfied with it.

The world of magic is just another layer of our own. Sometimes it doesn't matter who you were born to, just who ends up loving you and raising you. Duncan might have been a big man who wanted nothing else, but once he had a son, nothing was going to hurt that child no matter what happened to him. Glad you enjoyed it Jo. They are all vastly different and only one played with the idea of ending the world created for the story. Besides, as usual, each story is completely different from the one before. I think it would be a rather boring writer who couldn't take a different take on the subject.
